Laureate isn't quite a stunner by anyone's standards. She's on the small side as well as the plump side. Her hair is long, black and unremarkably straight. A rather forgettable woman, really, that is, unless she turns her eyes in your direction. Sea foam green and alive with emotion, they are windows to her soul. And a very interesting 38 Turns, 4 months, and 6 days old soul it is.

Her clothing, like her looks, are nothing to write home about. A light, windbreaker style blue jacket covers her upper body, left mostly unzipped and open for any to see the burgundy swimsuit beneath it. From waist down, the rest of her is concealed by a pair of lightly faded, loosely fitting, blue pants of pounded sisal. On the ring finger of her left hand is a band of silver shaped into cresting waves surrounding a dark blue stone. Black, leather, soft looking moccasins are on her feet. Her left shoulder sports a Dolphineer's Journeyman's knot.

Laureate was born to a pair of cheerful, life loving dolphineers at Ierne Weyrhold. Their first and only child, the couple lavished affection on the little girl and included her in their lives as often as allowed. For that reason, most of her childhood was spent in the water. Learning to swim before she could walk and playing, not only with her parents but with their two dolphin companions as well, Laureate developed a deep affection for the ocean and the entertaining creatures who lived among the waves.

It seemed to all involved that the swiftly maturing girl would follow in her small family's footsteps and enter into the Dolphincraft, but Laureate, unbeknownst to any, had nurtured another love; stars. From an early age, she had gazed wondrously at the glimmering points of light, drawing fanciful pictures in her mind with them long into the night as she wondered what they were made of and what they looked like up close. Were they like Pern or Rukbat? Maybe they were more like tiny Timors and Beliors instead? Those youthful queries are what led her to choose the Starcraft to apprentice with and, despite some well-hidden disappointment, her parents wished her luck and love.

The last thing Laureate expected as she immersed herself in her chosen craft were the bouts of incredible melancholy that would grip her from time to time. By nature an amiable and kindhearted person, she had no difficulty cultivating friends, even a sweetheart or two as well, but as time passed she grew more despondent and filled with longing.

One night as she gazed wistfully at the stars, playing her childhood picture game with them and trying to loose some of her unhappiness, she realized why she was so sad. She missed the ocean! The crash and hiss of each rising and ebbing wave, the warm and cold patches as one drifted from shallow to deeper water, the briny taste it left in ones mouth after a long swim. Even more, she missed the dolphins. Missed their squeaks and clicks, their playful banter, their faces, their eyes. The sea was crying out to her, beckoning with its silent siren call. Stars or no stars, she had to answer.

With many apologies to her teachers and mentor, back to Ierne she went. Soon after her homecoming, a new knot appeared on her shoulder, that of the Dolphincraft. Despite a short-lived affair with the sky, it seemed the sea had ultimately won Laureate's heart.
