Xanadu Weyr - Caverns

A massive cavern in it's own right, this one has been skillfully adapted for human habitation. The high ceilings have been painted a light, soft ivory, as are the walls where numerous tapestries hang to provide brilliant color and insulation from the stone. The floor has been left in its natural state, pale pink granite speckled through with glittering mica and dark flecks of basalt, leveled carefully but kept sufficiently rough to avoid slips.
The cavern itself is loosely divided into areas, each one set up to be suitable for some segment of the Weyr's population. The most frequently occupied area, however, is the one near the Kitchens where tables of varying sizes provide a place to sit down and eat or chat and a buffet of consumables is almost always kept stocked. Its plain that on most days, this area wouldn't accommodate anywhere near the full population of the Weyr and equally plain that on such occasions when a formal meal is laid out, tables are appropriated from all the other areas.
A big fireplace is set into the wall near the Kitchens as well, several comfortable chairs nearby providing haunts for elderly residents or riders who like a good view of all that happens. Rugs cover the floor in strategic spots, all of them abstract or geometric in design and most in the softly neutral colors of undyed wool.

Exits lead off in all directions, a big archway the largest and that leading outside. Shallow stairs to the west lead to the offices and administration area while tunnels to the east lead to the infirmary, kitchen and resident's quarters. Southwards, a sloping tunnel leads down to the hot springs and southwest is a wide tunnel, carefully roped off to avoid accidents.

Matteo hadn't been sitting long where he was, though it might seem it with the rather situated appearance of his stature. He was planted in the chair and looked like he probably wouldn't move even if someone informed him that one of Jutin's melons was heading right for him. He had a wine skin and glass before him, but this too had only just been aquired and the glass was half full. Or well, by how Matteo feels now, half empty. His hair, usually tied neatly back, now has quite a few loose strands and, at the angle of his head, a couple locks had fallen into his eyes. All in all he looked thoroughly spent for the day.

Kysli is wandering into the caverns, looking a tad bit out of it as well, lumdeedum. And she stumbles straight into a chair, right next to Matteo's at that. Thud.

Matteo seesm to become somewhat animate at the arrival of the brownrider. His head rights itself a bit better and he looks over at her with a mildly amused look to him. After a second, not having spoken a word, he offers the wine skin. She looked like she could use it too.

Kysli glances up, having managed to turn around and /sit/ in the chair instead of being face first in it as before. Yeah, blink. The wineskin is glanced at… hrm… ah what the heck. Not that she has a glass or anything, but she takes it and she downs a bit.

Matteo gives this a smirk. "Thought you might need that. I know I did when i came in." His voice seems a bit hoarse and his eyes wander back to the glass. He downs the rest of it and lets out a huffing sigh. "So, what's your story?"

Kysli overs the skin back, especially as the other finishes his glass. Oh dear, she's blinking a bit. That was probably a bit too much wine a bit too fast. So she has low tolerance… "Stupid wingleadership…" is mumbled.

Matteo accepts and fills his glass again. His tolerance is quite high thanks for the seaman's blood of his father. He goes to take another sip of the glass now filled and frowns. "Now what can be so terrible about that?" He looks at her rather than his glass. He rethinks that question a second or two. "Disobedient Wingriders?"

Kysli gives a slight smirk and nod, "One lost the package he was delivering." How he did that? Who know… "Misplaced it on a 'sidetrip'" The last word is almost growled. Grr… and /she/ has to deal with the unhappy people.

Matteo gives a deserving frown to that. "You kid!" He snorts. "Shells, if I'd been in your shoes I'd…" His tone doesn't even need that sentence finished. "He's serving some sort of time for that, I hope?" Matteo, raised with ships, knew the punishments in that trade were quite severe from something that careless. He hoped it applied here aswell.

Kysli shakes her head head with a scowl. "No… I'm serious, the…" growl. Okay, maybe she shouldn't continue the conversation on this subject grumble. And she holds out her hand for the skin again. Heh.

Matteo willingly hands it over, taking a generous sip of his glass. "I can't believe…" he starts but changes aswell, "On deck yeh'd get a time cleaning the lower decks and the privy cabins for something like that. You'd be lucky if they only had you do it half the trip."

Kysli tosses back her head and takes another rather large drink. She may be feeling the effects of this a bit more quite soon. "What about you?" is mumbled… he's had quite a day it would seem as well.

Matteo seems somewhat startled out of his brooding about all the forms of ship-punishment. "Ah, me, yes well…" He takes another generous sip of wine, "Well, after climbing the main rigging five times to the top sail to check ropes, climbing back down, then climbing up the aft rigging half way, then climbing back down, cleaning decks inbetween climbing times and a good amount of crustacean removal via hanging from a rope off the side…" He gives a snort and a smirk. "That can tire a soul out quite a bit. Especially when I was told my rigging was wrong twice by some scum not fit to cling to the bottom of the rig, only, mind you, to prove him wrong both times." He gives a disgusted look into his wine as if the face of teh person of whome he speaks is reflected in it.

Kysli shakes her head. Oh the amount of annoying people in the world right now. Grumble. And she pretty much just flops back in the chair. "Well, get a break now…"

Matteo gives and nod, finishing that glass too and setting it down. "This is true. And that was only maintenance work that was… Hate to be stuck for a month like that." By the tone he holds still it can be decerned that the work itself was no problem at all, but that he really had issues with whomever the scum he'd referred to earlier was. He folds his arms over his chest with a huff.

Kysli smiles a little bit and blinks a few times, looking slightly woozy. Yeah, too much too fast. "I still have that fish pendant…" is said randomly, yep, in fact she's wearing it… it's /nice/

Matteo gives a smile at this and looks at it. He fingers the one he has about his neck and gives a chuckle. Seems even he was at least a little inebriated now. "I haven't had time to do many these days." He muses. "I shall soon, though, have a real one for your dragon to see." He chuckles again in his trademark silent fashion.

Kysli tilts her head a little bit. "A real fish?" Blink… yes she's quite confused but can't help giggle herself. Oh dear. Pulling her feet up onto the chair, she doesn't seem to care that she does have boots on. Instead she just curls up with a silly grin.

Matteo nods. "Yep. I can get one once we go out for a month." He leans closer to the table, using it as a drawing board. "We're going to go…" He grabs a the wine glass and sets it decisively at one point on the table. "from here, Xanadu…" He reaches over now for a utensil… a fork he grabs. "To Ista…" He traces his finger around teh fork. "around like a runner shoe, and back home to Xanadu" He looks up and points at the pendant. "Those are around here…" He points to between the two objects, but closer to the fork. "Loads of them in schools."

Kysli smiles, so it's a bit off but that's okay. "He'd love to see one… so would I." So she isn't slurring her speech at least, right? Yes. Randomly she grabs the fork and fiddles with it.

Matteo grins at this. "They're like rainbows, the lot of them. And not just those types but others of all sorts of colors. Can't wait to see them again, myself.." He dips a bit more wine into the glass. He knew he was pushing it, but didn't seem to care at this point.

Kysli obviously doesn't care either and smiles again, "Have another glass?" is asked, not /quite/ making sense but close. Yeah… Drinking out of the skin isn't always too good, not to mention polite.

Matteo looks up and grins. "I can get one." He gets up, walking quite normally so their's no problem to work on yet. He returns with the glass and sprawls back into the seat. "There ya go…" He hands the wineskin out.

Kysli takes the glass with a smile, and the wineskin too for that matter. Hrm… "Benden?" is asked with a mumble, hey she should at least know that much about wine, what after being with C'ian for a few turns. Pouring it she closes the skin and takes only a sip this time.

Matteo gives a nod. "Naturally. Everything else just seems lacking in comparison." hey, he could still use big words correctly. Another reason not to be concerned. He takes a short swig. Though granted he will drink other stuff just as liberally, nothing came close to Benden, so was widely agreed.

Kysli smiles, crookedly before taking a bigger sip. By now she's seeming a little too relaxed, or more than a little. And she giggles slightly, something that seems a bit odd for the wingleader.

Matteo to her giggle he grins. "You know… I'm glad I came here…" This is possibly just as randomn as the fish pendant talk earlier. "Not only bacuse of the reason I came but… you know here as opposed to… well, somewhere else." He seems to be rambling a little. Hm. Warning sign? Meh, who cares. "Like as opposed to Ista or… or Fort…"

Kysli giggles slightly again, she doesn't normally giggle, but doesn't notice that fact either. "Or anywhere else?" The rider grins brightly at that and, yes, giggles more. In fact giggles are dispersed through the whole time she talks, plus some when she doesn't. "I'm glad I came here too… what… with Bergerath… Casp…"

Matteo he grins again. Grinning is probably another warning too, but who's counting now? "Yeah… You see, i don't even mind I didn't impress… i don't mind at all. yeah it would have been neat and all.." Neat? Since when was something 'neat' with Matteo? Aparantly now. "But, yeah… i mean I met… I Vatyri and… and Estas, Niva… Lahela-… You. Vatyri, did I already say Vatyri?" He looks a bit confused. 'Yes, yes I did… Well, yeah, meeting her couts two times I suppose."

Kysli grins right back, widely. "And everyone else?" Giggling she beams at the other, how many warning signs has she ignored so far? Way too many, and yet she takes another sip of wine. Heck, she's not even bothered by her own slip mention of C'ian… which does bother her on occasion. But nah… she's happy… too happy.

Matteo nods vigerously in response. "Yeah… Everyone's just so…" he can't find a word and shrugs, taking another swig of his glass. "But yeah… And that C'ian… He's a good learder." He nods for emphasis at this, seemingly unaware of what ever had gone on between his drinking mate and the weyrleader. "Keeps that Jutin in line."

Kysli laughs hard at the last bit, "And he /needs/ to be." Snicker… Jutin, oh my… and Jutinith. "What… the… dragon?" Well, yes, it's supposed to be a dragon right? "Of his?" Everything is a question now though she manages to take another sip. But the glass is put down as she obviously can't hold it steadily.

Kysli begins to realize how she is well, feeling a bit off. Maybe her bond helps her realize that? Who knows. "Um…" Blinking she attempts that again, "I… think…" Think? Nah… she can't do that. "I should go…" Blink.

Matteo gives a sudden jerk out of thought. He'd been wondering the same. "yeah… good idea… Maybe I'll try sleeping to…" He stands and holds out a hand to her to help her up. He seems now a bit unsteady, but nothing too problematic.

Kysli isn't unsteady, not at all… so she takes the hand and gets to her feet, falling straight /into/ the person. Um.. yeah. "Actually…." Blink. "I think I'll… I'll…" What /was/ she thinking? "Um, I'll…" Blink… oh dear, she's a little bit out of it. "Stay here."

Matteo takes a stagger back but catches his balance. "You sure? I could help you to your weyr ifn you want?" He could do that, yes. He knew he was a bit unstable, but his weight helped ground him.

Kysli shakes her head a bit, "Nah… 'd have ta… ta ride." Blink. Flying like this? That would be /bad/. "Gonna stay…." She glances back a the chair. "Right…" and she collapses back into it. "Here."

Matteo nods a little. "Okay…" Yeah… probably not good to fly. "I guess I'd better… ead to my hammock. If you're sure you'll be okay." He liked this brown rider and his overconcern was actually more sober than drunkad banter.

Kysli gives a slight nod and well, that turns into nodding off. Hrm… head snaps up. "Goodnigh'" is mumbled partly coherently. Poor thing isn't used to getting a little um… drunk.

"Alright then…" Matteo looks about himself then nods a little more. "G'night then, Wingleader." He gives a smile then saunters off towards the enterance. Now, if he can get to his hammock he's good.
