Xanadu Weyr - Caverns
A massive cavern in it's own right, this one has been skillfully adapted for human habitation. The high ceilings have been painted a light, soft ivory, as are the walls where numerous tapestries hang to provide brilliant color and insulation from the stone. The floor has been left in its natural state, pale pink granite speckled through with glittering mica and dark flecks of basalt, leveled carefully but kept sufficiently rough to avoid slips.
The cavern itself is loosely divided into areas, each one set up to be suitable for some segment of the Weyr's population. The most frequently occupied area, however, is the one near the Kitchens where tables of varying sizes provide a place to sit down and eat or chat and a buffet of consumables is almost always kept stocked. Its plain that on most days, this area wouldn't accommodate anywhere near the full population of the Weyr and equally plain that on such occasions when a formal meal is laid out, tables are appropriated from all the other areas.
A big fireplace is set into the wall near the Kitchens as well, several comfortable chairs nearby providing haunts for elderly residents or riders who like a good view of all that happens. Rugs cover the floor in strategic spots, all of them abstract or geometric in design and most in the softly neutral colors of undyed wool.
Exits lead off in all directions, a big archway the largest and that leading outside. Shallow stairs to the west lead to the offices and administration area while tunnels to the east lead to the infirmary, kitchen and resident's quarters. Southwards, a sloping tunnel leads down to the hot springs and southwest is a wide tunnel, carefully roped off to avoid accidents.
L'alie is just coming out of the hot springs, her hair hanging damp and lank over her bare shoulders. Her riding jacket is hung over her arm, and little dark spots mottle her tanktop where drops of water have fallen on it. She looks around for any familiar faces on her way towards the clearing, stopping to greet a few members of her wing.
Clad in her usual swimwear and still wet, Kylynara is seated at a table, her usual light meal in front of her. A couple meat rolls, some fruit. She's feeding some meat scraps to the blue firelizard perched on her shoulder.
I don't see that here.
"Shut it! Mother's dead!" Silence wafts over the Caverns and all heads turn to see… T'eo and a girl, no older than 14 but it'd clearly been her who'd shouted with such anger. The two had just entered, clearly in an argument, thought it'd been a quiet whispering one. Now, however, it was a staring contest. Frightening how similar the two looked, both having long dark brown, near black, hair and bright amber eyes. It is T'eo who looks away first, biting his lip. He walks silently towards the drinks table. After a pause, the girl follows. She's barefoot and in knee length shorts and a simple short sleeved shirt. Skinny, but with a great deal of muscle to her small form. She stops behind T'eo, shooting nervous glances at the others around her. Clearly she'd lost her bravado now with strange eyes on her.
L'alie turns her face instantly towards the disturbance, and is a little shocked to see T'eo and (I'm assuming) his little sister. She frowns just a little, and starts to take a step towards them, and then thinks the better of it, standing still in the middle of the living cavern.
Kylynara turns to watch the pair curiously. But she quickly remembers her manners and goes back to eating, but she can't help glancing frequently at the pair. Gamut looks at the pair as well, eyes whirling yellow as her hises slightly. Kyly frowns slightly and pets Gamut's blue hide to calm him down. "S'okay Gamut. They won't hurt you." she mutters to the disturbed young blue.
T'eo busies himself in getting something to drink, making very hurried motions. His, yes, sister, watches him. "I'm… sorry." T'eo ignores her, hands shaking so much that he drops the sugar cube bowl, sending pieces overthe table and onto the floor. Not to mention the sailing sugar cubes. "Shards!" T'eo snarls as the girl yelps. She leaps backwards to protect her feet, nearly hopping into Alie. She manages to dart sideways just at the last minute to redirect her course to the ground right beside Kylynara where she lands with a thump and a wince. "Lor?" He turns around to look Alie in the eye. He looks away quickly as drudges hurry out to clean things up.
L'alie reaches out with the intent to catch the young teenager, but she directs course and so L'al just stands there with her arms outstretched looking stupid. Then she frowns again and sits down, completely confused. She stays like that for a moment and then she lifts up a finger and opens her mouth. Before anything comes out, she shuts it and goes back to staring at the table.
Kylynara tightens her hand gently around Gamut, going from calming to restraining, as he hisses again when the girl jumps back. She naturally looks up in time to catch th wince. "You okay?" she asks the girl as she gently disentangles Gamut's claws and pulls him down into her lap, where she can stroke him easier. She looks back and forth between T'eo and the girl all semblance of ignoring them gone.
Senkyou walks in, gazing from one face to another at the scene unfolding. "Ierne's duties to-" She stops midsentence watching the girl fall, and people try and catch her. Senkyou raises an eyebrow, muttering something along the lines of xanadu really is crazy.
The girl looks up to Kylynara with a small half smile of thanks before standing. "Yes… I'll… be okay." She looks to T'eo somewhat darkly, though she dare not attempt to cross the porcelin and sugar strewn floor. The bronzer, however, doesn't seem ready to look at her or L'alie again. He glances at the entering Iernian before staring at the table again. "Scuz, sir?" He looks down to a drudge cleaning the floor near his feet. "Need ta move this, see? And yerself, sir." T'eo closes his eyes and nods before he backs up, now standing in the center of the caverns as L'alie had been. Pause. Turn. He looks to Alie then his sister and back again.
L'alie lifts an eyebrow, folds her arms, and HMPHS! loudly. "Well? Don't just stand there like an idiot, come sit down, make some introductions. She obviously knows you, and somethings obviously wrong. Which would you like to explain first?" Yes mother o.o
Kylynara nods to the girl and tries to focus on calming the young blue down. She mumbles under her breath to the litle blue, whispering calming words. Last thing needed right now is a confused young fireliard making things worse. She blinks as L'alie's voice suddenly cuts in, but contnues to calm the little creature.
"Sorry if'n I'm intrudin' on a family crisis right now, supposed to comin' down here and give this to yu're headwoman." In Senkyou's arms is indeed a package, eyes darting to the knotes of each rider, not saying anything but getting herself a cup of juice and sitting down at a table, feet going up on the table as she leans back on two legs of the chair, she has made herself right at home.
"About time…" Mutters the girl. She looks at L'alie curiously as she approaches, then offers out a hand. "Lorena. Matt's my older brother." She explains. T'eo comes up rather timidly behind, glancing around him but not saying a word. Lorena seems to have this in control, right? Plus he's still pretty shaken. Lorena looks L'alie over appraisingly as she sits, tugging T'eo into the seat beside her. "And who is this, Matt?" Strange to be called that again, Matt-er… T'eo answers. "My weyrmate, L'alie, rider of, er, brown Adinaeth."
L'alie glances over at Senkyou and motions, "I'll take it to Niv in awhile if you like, I think she's off doing an inspection or something." She waves her hand, "Whatever it is Weyrwomen do." She smiles at Lorena, taking her hand and giving it a pleasant squeeze, "I'm happy to meet you, Lorena." She sniffs and reaches across to jab a finger at T'eo, "Eradinaeth? I'm sure he will be pleased to know you remember his name so well. Actually, he might even adopt it as a nickname. Next you know, he'll be Erpinkadie."
Kylynara chuckles slightly at the exchange and blushes as she realizes she did so outloud. She quickly finishes off her food, after giving the litle blue a few more strokes, to ensure he calms down. Now that things around her are, she's not too concerned though.
Senkyou seems to be watching this family thing with detached interest, besides that she sips the juice and sits back, like a movie.
Deguila comes walking in, shivering a bit "… GMrrph…" looking fresh out of Between with a package under one arm. She pauses, glancing about at the various people and clears her throat, loudly to attract some attention. She then squints at the label at the package "Is there a … Senk… you… here?"
T'eo is, needless to say, a bit uncomfortable with the Iernian's eyes on his back. "Ah… well… ah…" Lorena eyes her brother with distaste and snorts. "You never were very articulate." She mutters before smiling at L'alie. "Indeed, pleasure to meet you aswell. Well… Wish it'd been in better circumstances." T'eo stares down at the table at that and Lorena offers explaination. "Our… um, mother died. Only a few days ago." She explains. Strange that she seems to have accepted this and T'eo's the one who seems so upset.
L'alie frowns, "I'm very sorry to hear that." she murmurs sympathetically. "I would liked to have met her. So will you be staying here now?" She tilts her head in interest. L'alie likes family, oh yes. Very much so. She eyes T'eo, "Yes, he does tend to get flustered over things. It's cute."
Kylynara finishes her meal and slips back out to the beach, setling her blue back on her shoulder as she goes. Ingoring the temptation to stay and learn the gossip. She nods a goodbye to T'eo, L'alie, and Lorena. Then again to Senkyou and Deguila as she passes.
Senkyou nods, giving a frown. "Well, I'm Senkyou, but I don' live here an' haven't been here for more than ten minutes." She says rather baffeled at getting something here.
Deguila looks over, peering as someone Identifies themselves as Senkyou and shrugs "Well, I was told to come here to deliver this to you." she holds out the package "Can you just put your mark on the slip here? Item from PlasticCraft."
Lorena nods, looking at T'eo. "Yes… I was, you see," She looks back to L'alie. "At the craft hall." She points to her apprentice knot. "And, well, with mother gone now… I've applied to be appointed out here… With Matt." T'eo doesn't give any sign to this, choosing the woodgrain to keep his attention, though his eyes cloud a little. "Since he's a Journeyman and all… But Matt, that is, T'eo… said he didn't want me to." Lorena finishes softly. As Kylynara leaves T'eo looks up and nods to her, eyes coming back around to look at the two. "You… you can stay Lor. I'm sorry."
L'alie hmphs, "Well, ignore him. He's just upset. Doesn't know what he's saying." She nods her head firmly. "If the craft hall says you can come, I'm sure T'eo would be happy to have his little sister here." She shoots a look at the bronzerider that fairly gleams. "Besides, Xanadu is much more fun than any craft hall."
"Why? This.. I'm open this find out who sent it." Senkyou puts her signature on the sheet and starts to open whatever the mysterious package is.
Deguila nods at that "I dont return things. I just make them and deliver them. " she states with a smile "Journeyman Deguila by the by. Nice place here. I haven't been to Xanadu before."
Lorena smiles a bit more, looking also to her brother who shifts uneasily under the gazes. "Uh… yeah. Um…" Heh, like a herdbeast in a dragon's path. Yep. Lorena helps him out. "Maybe I should go get my stuff from the ship?" T'eo automatically nods. There's a rumble outside. "Raenth'll take you…" He says with the same automatic monotone. He shakes himself out of it as Lor hops up and trots towards the exit. "Strap yourself in!" He calls after, concern in his voice. "And no betweening!"
L'alie chuckles and scoots over to T'eo, throwing an arm around him and leaning her head against his. "Hey. I'm sorry about your mother. Want to talk about it or something?"
Senkyou looks at the contents of the package, and shakes her head. "This ain't mine!" She declares, trying to hand it bakc to Deguila. "I havin' no need for this sorta thing."
Deguila raises an eyebrow "Well, I can't really take it back. Its been paid for and stuff. " she states, guesturing to the package "Find out who it DOES belong to."
T'eo sighs, reaching a hand up to stroke her cheek lightly. "I… wouldn't know what to talk about." He mutters rather despondantly. "I've not talking about her at all in a long time. And Lor? She's… growing up. I mean, I haven't seen her since she was like, 9? And mother… well… I got angry at her last time I saw her." He shakes his head suddenly. "I… I need to go… swim."
L'alie sighs a little, looking helpless. "If you're worried about that, T'eo.. you know she loves you, and I'm sure she forgave you for it. It's not like she died hating you." She grimaces. "That's not helpful, probably." She sighs and rubs her face. "It will all work out for the best, though. Think of it as a chance to reconnect with the family you still have? Like Lorena."
Senkyou appears to want to sink into the chair, she whispers to Deguila. "I- I didn't buy this… please, if yu can' find the owner take it to Robyn's nest at Ierene, I would even give yu a ride over there."
Deguila pauses at that, furrowing her brow a little bit "… Well… if the real person comes looking for it, you could give it to them." she states in a soft murmer back. "Just dont tell anyone about it.
T'eo looks at L'alie a long time before giving her a small kiss and pulling her into a close embrace. "You and her… S'all I have." « Yo dude! What am I? A wherry? » "… And Raenth…" He mutters. He releases her to stand and with a sad half smile, he heads out. Destination: the beach.
