Xanadu Weyr - DragonHealer's Annex

An entrance way which would allow admittance to even the greatest of Queen Dragons leads into a chamber which would house half-a-dozen of the same size. To one side is a shallow pool which constantly clears itself of grime and is used is washing wounds. Nearby is a shelf with a generous supply of clean bandages and clean sheets upon stone shelves. The other side of the chamber is taken up by an alcove with multiple banks of computers to house medical records and help to diagnose illness and injury in the Dragons who come for aid. Within this alcove is a small medical laboratory where medicines and herbs can be prepared and experiments can take place. The far wall houses two dozen Dragon couches, each separated above by a rail which supports a thick curtain allowing the patients an option of privacy as they rest and recover.

Ethne is seated at one of the computers with a stack of sheets beside her entering some information into the database of medical records. She hums quietly to herself as she does so. Her firelizards are perched on one of the shelves, sleeping or observing things around. Mellonath is relaxed out in the area outside the annex.

Neferennu gives a courteous nod to Mellonath as she walks around her and into the annex. Under one arm is her notebook with the stylus over the right ear. A stop next to the alcove of the laboratory to take a look at who is using the microscopes before she heads on over towards the computers. "More medical records to enter I take it?" This is asked casually of Ethne before a spare chair is found and she sits down, crosses one leg over the other, and sets the notebook in her lap. As unobtrusively as possible, eyes look over towards the computer to find out what is being entered today.

Ethne glances over as she hears someone come in and smiles as she sees Neferrenu. "Hey. Yeah unfortunately paperwork and all never ceases. If it did, we'd not have our jobs." She shrugs. "Just part of being a Dragonhealer dear. Have to go through the boring stuff in order to get to the more interesting stuff."

Neferennu sighs and nods, giving a bright smile before eyes return to the screen. "So what all do we have to enter now? Just updates? I know there have been a few minor issues with the latest weyrlings, and I went with T'sar to learn about the stretching and muscle exercises they are being put through before flight." To this her eyes brighten up and then dim slightly at another thought. "I forgot to take my notebook though."

Ethne nods as she replies. "Yep, well the charts need to be updated in the database first of all, I know there needs to be some restocking done." She says. "I know it's not fun right now but in time once you're certified and all, things get more interesting. Well you'll have plenty of time to practice what you learn here and all." She smiles. "Anything you need, just ask me."

Neferennu smiles. "I know, it just seems so frustrating some times. I have learned how to do some basics on analyzing tissue samples with the microscopes. I practice drawing everything when I can, that and creating my oils." A soft hum as her eyes turn to her notebook and she flips to a page with a bunch of more structured drawings of different muscle types and lets Ethne look if she wants. "Though I am still wanting to learn more about the problem with gold infertility and the dragons' genetics if I could. I'm kind of curious on whether it is the golds being infertile or the catching males."

Ethne looks towards Neferennu as she turns to look more towards the younger woman. "If we knew enough about that, I could give you an answer dear. There still is nothing written in stone as to the cause." She shrugs. "I'd love an answer because it'd help Mellonath greatly."

"I'm sorry, I touched on a sensitive issue didn't I?" Neferennu winces a bit and sits back further in her chair. "I would love to help but I guess the basics come first. I really like working the microscopes though. The tissues seem so different through them then they do larger…at least in drawings." Thankfully there haven't been any severely injured dragons to warrant seeing the tissues except on slides. The goldrider probably has known for a while that Rennu took the herbal knowledge learned about in dragonhealing and is experimenting with different combinations of herbs to make massage oils.

Ethne shakes her head as she replies quietly. "It's alright, it's a fact that Mellonath has to deal with and so do I as with any other gold pair out there on Pern. We just do our best you know? That's all we can do." She smiles. "So how are the oils coming?"

Neferennu nods slowly, though more subdued in her reply. "I suppose so. More research needs to be done I suppose." Eyes are turned away until Ethne mentions her oils and then she gets a bit more happy again. "It is going really good. I have a couple different kinds and have started experimenting with alcohol for perfumes, but they don't seem to take as much scent from the herbs. I did manage to get some aloe gel and made a potent sniff to keep myself awake, used a lot of cloves and peppers to make it that way. Um…" She rummages around in her pocket and pulls out a small vial of the brown-colored gel and offers it to Ethne. "I made a couple since they lose their potency in about a month..at least in smell."

Satoris arrives from the Foyer.

Ethne nods as she sets aside another chart as she relaxes in the chair a little as she reaches to take the offered vial. "Well if you can figure out how to do that, you'd make a good help to many a rider and dragon just for that alone."

Neferennu raises an eyebrow and her smile fades. "What would be a good help? The massage oils or the gel?" This is asked as the vial is handed over with a glance towards the computer screen then back to Ethne.

Ethne looks towards Neferennu and smiles. "Both honestly. Could use something to help me keep awake at times." She winks.

Neferennu thinks for a moment and then laughs. "Oh, I get it. I forgot sometimes even riders could have a hard time staying awake. Though I don't know if I can make enough massage oil for a full-size dragon. I'd have to have more plots of herbs than are available now." Another chuckle and then a sigh, motioning towards the vial. "Just be careful smelling that. I just made it the other day so it is at its most potency. I suppose when it reduces you could put a bit right under the nose to get a longer effect, but right now I'm worried it will overwhelm the smell sense."

No Archy in sight. Perhaps he is sleeping. Perhaps he is working. Maybe Satoris just has no need of the boy right now. Armed with his clipboard and a pen, the miner Journeyman ambles into the Annex and begins walking along the perimter, looking intently at where the walls meet the floors and making notes. He seems, thus far, unaware of the two present.

Ethne nods as she takes mental note of what Neferrenu said. "Yeah I see what you mean… well a bit of tweaking things should help with that problem." She smiles. "So you enjoying Xanadu by the way?"

Neferennu hrms. "What kind of tweaking? Do you have any ideas?" A slight shrug at the weyr but her voice is still bright. "Oh I love it! I turned down M'gan when he asked for me to be his weyrmate at Ierne." At the mention of M'gan though, her face contorts into a hurt expression and her eyes look anywhere but Ethne. "I finally had to tell him not to come back." The last comes out as almost a choked whisper. After a moment, composure has been resumed and a shake of the head clears the mind. "So what is in the plans for the next couple of days? T'sar didn't seem to want to answer me about how much we supervise during the weyrling first flights."

Allowing them to go about their conversation, Satoris pauses at one wall and kneels down, using his pen to poke at the dirt somewhat. He frowns a bit, sketching a few more notes on his clipboard. He even mumbles to himself a bit.

Ethne looks around as she looks to Neferennu with a smile. "Let me think on it… I'm sure I can find a healer that deals with herbs to help you out." She looks at the computer and yawns. "I miss my little ones, shards that illness is miserable."

Neferennu blinks and looks confused for a moment then ohs. "The pox the healers have warned us about? I was lucky I didn't catch it." A warm smile and a nod. "Well, I have talked with Shellie a bit, but that's about it." A look around the room and Satoris is noticed. "Hey! You doing your checks in here now too or just checking everything again after that last aftershake?" Aftershock, but oh well.

"I hadn't checked in here yet," Satoris states stiffly, not looking over to the two women. He's fairly caught up in examining the earth where a support is buried. Well, the floor. But the earthquake has shifted the basis somewhat. "Might need to reinforce this later."

Ethne looks back as she hears a voice and sees an unfamiliar face at least to her. "Excuse me sir, do you need some help?"

Neferennu starts to say something gets a look of slight pain on her face. "Excuse me…" With that she gets up, leaving her notebook behind, to run to the closest latrines.

"Satoris, Journeyman Miner. I'm just checking the structural integrity of the Weyr's buildings to be sure the earthquake and its aftershocks haven't affected any of them too harshly." The man straightens, brushing ineffectually at the leg of his trous.

Ethne nods as she replies. "Ethne, Junior Weyrwoman to Mellonath as well as a Dragonhealer." She nods at his response. "Well always better to safe than sorry."

"Well met, Weyrwoman," Satoris says, glancing over his notes. He gives a slight nod, "Indeed. I'll see about passing this report off to the Smiths. They should be able to get the reinforcements done easily."
