Aftermath of the Kidnapping

Xanadu Weyr - Caverns
A massive cavern in it's own right, this one has been skillfully adapted for human habitation. The high ceilings have been painted a light, soft ivory, as are the walls where numerous tapestries hang to provide brilliant colour and insulation from the stone. The floor has been left in its natural state, pale pink granite speckled through with glittering mica and dark flecks of basalt, leveled carefully but kept sufficiently rough to avoid slips.
The cavern itself is loosely divided into areas, each one set up to be suitable for some segment of the Weyr's population. The most frequently occupied area, however, is the one near the Kitchens where tables of varying sizes provide a place to sit down and eat or chat and a buffet of consumables is almost always kept stocked. Its plain that on most days, this area wouldn't accommodate anywhere near the full population of the Weyr and equally plain that on such occasions when a formal meal is laid out, tables are appropriated from all the other areas.
A big fireplace is set into the wall near the Kitchens as well, several comfortable chairs nearby providing haunts for elderly residents or riders who like a good view of all that happens. Rugs cover the floor in strategic spots, all of them abstract or geometric in design and most in the softly neutral colours of undyed wool.
Exits lead off in all directions, a big archway the largest and that leading outside. Shallow stairs to the west lead to the offices and administration area while tunnels to the east lead to the infirmary, kitchen and resident's quarters. Southwards, a sloping tunnel leads down to the hot springs and southwest is a wide tunnel, carefully roped off to avoid accidents.

Kysli sits curled up on one of the plush couches, feet up on the seat and boots on the ground nearby. Wouldn't want to scuff up the furniture. The brownrider just hugs herself tightly, arms wrapped around her legs which are both pulled up.

Kirilla is lounging on another of the couches, expression grim. She fingers her new knot idly, and comments to no one inparticular, "Only a few hours before he went off, too. Guess I'll have to tort-teach the new weyrlings in his name."

Kysli sits curled up on one of the plush couches, feet up on the seat and boots on the ground nearby. Wouldn't want to scuff up the furniture. The brownrider just hugs herself tightly, arms wrapped around her legs which are both pulled up.

Jolie is rather fidgety, as she sits in the unfamiliar living caverns. She sits down and then gets back up, unable to stay in one place very long. "I just want to be doing something."

Niva comes out of the infirmary, walking backwards and giving instructions to those still there as she goes. A shake of her head and she turns, pausing in her stride at the sight of the group on the couches. Getting herself a mug of klah, she hesitantly goes to join them, murmuring a quick hey and a nervous glance at Kys to see how the brownrider's doing.

Kirilla glances at Jolie curiously, then notices Niva's arrival. Eyeing Niva's fresh mug of klah, Rilla reaches over and picks up her own, draining the last bit. On her way to get more klah, she comments to Jolie, "We all do; but we have to have a plan to outwit those people. I guess Western doesn't get as much of them, but they're a menace down south here."

Kysli is doing… well… she seems to be in one piece currently. Glancing up at Niva she smiles just a little and it is a halfhearted attempt. But somehow she seems almost comforted by the healer's presence. The conversation between other riders isn't joined.

Jolie nods her head just a trifle. "No. I don't think there are that many, probably because it's an island?" She shrugs again and goes back to pacing. "I don't even like hunting or camping. None of this would have happened, except we all had to participate in this hunting thing."

Niva settles down in a chair, one leg folded up underneath her as she takes a slow sip of her klah. "But really, we know they've got to be alive, at least. And anything we do could backfire on us, and there could be even more problems." She's rather not have half a dozen riders in the infirmary, thank you. A glance over at Kys and she returns the half smile slowly, an eyebrow arched in a silent query.

Kirilla manages a chuckle. "He brought it on himself, though. His boast, his challenge. Although I suppose your weyrleaders couldn't just back down. It was great, til he /had/ to go hunt on his own," Of course she'll try to rationalize everything. To Niva, "If they were dead, the dragons would /know/."

Kysli glances down at her hands and is fiddling with her tunic, she can't help but fidget really. Niva is sitting pretty close to her so she gives a quiet, "He's in pain… badly." Only Niva should hear her.

Jolie nods her head back to Kirilla. "I just wish, that their dragons could get a visual or something." She's squeaky almost. "Seva doesn't like Rayne being gone and upsetting Ilveraeth that way." She sighs. "I mean, I know everyone's doing all the can. I just wish something more could be."

Niva glances nervously at Kysli at the words, blinking and biting her lip. Perhaps Niva's in luck not having a lifemate in contact indirectly with the victims. And she nods slowly at Kirilla with a bit of a face. "I know…." And a quick glance at Kys and she looks back at the others. "We told him not to hunt alone anymore. But he just… ran off anyway."

Kirilla nods, a frown creasing her face. "Silly Weyrleader. Should've known better," brow furrowed, the newly-appointed Weyrlingmaster refills her klah and returns to the couch. She glances at Jolie. "Same with Pheri - it's my luck she's not proddy anymore; she'd be unmanageable with him missing. He used to be my WingSecond, you know."

Kysli curls up tighter and rests her chin on both knees. She did have Bergerath ask… so she should have expected what she was told. But that doesn't make it any easier to accept.

Jolie ohs softly, in answer to Kirilla, before she looks back toward the others in the room. "I didn't know how he ended up missing, just that it happened. And then Rayne was gone, too. And now Seva's so upset, she's barely making sense when she talks." She frowns a bit more. "No word or anything has been sent? I would have thought they'd have done that."

Kirilla shakes her head. "It's only been a few days. I'm sure we'll get some word soon. Ransom, or /something/.. I hope." Expression grim, Rilla stands back up and empties her klah mug, then hands it to someone on their way to the kitchen. With a short smile at Jolie and Niva, and a concerned glance at Kysli, she heads for the exit. "Got work to do, even if the Weyrleader's missing."

Niva keeps her gaze on Kysli for a moment longer before sighing softly and looking back and forth between the others. "I don't think they could have picked better ones to kidnap, from their point of view." Considering the mess that's left in their wake. A slow sip of her klah and she bites her lip. "I don't know what could be done to calm the dragons down, but if you need rest, there's a recipe for a tea in my record book that will help you to sleep." Even if you don't really want to. And she bobs her head absently at Kirilla as the WLM leaves.

Jolie shrugs her shoulders helplessly. "I don't know. She's not exactly keeping me awake. Seva I mean. She's just agitated. But I guess that'd go for any dragon right now." She wonders. "I suppose, I should go back to the camp. Ilveraeth doesn't like folks being gone for long, from there."

Kysli is kind of off in her own little world, but adds something. "I know that Cas… C'ian is being kept in some caves, but nothing about Rayne." Is said quietly, though she still seems to be in a trance.

Jolie nods her head back tightly to the brownrider. "I know folks are doing all they can. Just doesn't seem like much, does it?" She sighs and then moves to wander on out the door as well.

Niva hms softly as Kys continues with the information, sipping slowly at her klah. And then she glances over at Jolie with a slow nod. "Still, if you ever need it, or know of someone who does, I'd be willing to dig it up and make some."

Kysli probably needs some of that tea as it doesn't seem like she's been sleeping from the looks of it. Jolie is given a nod in farewell but that's about it. Someone isn't being social.

Niva nods her head to Jolie as she gets up to leave, idly lifting a hand in farewell as she nervously glances over at Kysli. "I mean it, Kysli.. In fact, I think I'll make some up in a bit…" And make sure she drinks a dose.

Kysli nods a bit but then shakes her head as something occurs to her. "No… I want to be able to wake up if Bergerath hears anything…" She can't be in a drug-induced slumber.

Niva shakes her head quickly. "You'll be able to wake up if its urgent enough. It'll just help you relax enough to get to sleep. I promise, I wouldn't put you under all the way at a time like this." Its too dangerous for everyone involved.

Kysli bites her lip then nods again though her voice is somewhat hesitant. "Ok… but not yet." She wants to sit here awhile longer at least. "Are you holding up ok?" is asked softly, she is worried about the other girl as well.

Niva nods slowly, giving in that much to the brownrider's wishes. "No, not yet. We can wait a while longer. Just let me know when." A soft sigh and the Healer sips at her klah. "I guess… I think I'm glad I can't hear what you can." As difficult as that is at the same time.

Kysli sighs slightly, shaking her head. "Only if I ask… otherwise I don't hear anything." And even though she knows he's still alive she wants updates of sorts… if only the dragon link let her talk directly to Casp…

Niva shivers slightly with a shake of her head. "But even then. I think I'd be tempted to ask often. Even if it could be bad." And atleast this way she can stay slightly more objective in worrying about the injuries they might suffer.

Kysli closes her eyes for a moment and rubs her face, yes she is tired but.. not ready to sleep. She seems rather alone and scared, holding herself tightly.

Niva sets her mug down on the nearest table and slides out of her seat to balance herself on the edge of Kysli's couch, one hand reaching hesitantly for the brownrider's shoulder. "Kys?"

Kysli glances up, not moving away from the hand reaching towards her. There is no vocal reply but her eyes seem to respond, asking 'what?'

Niva rests her hand lightly on the's shoulder then for a long moment before giving what she hopes is a reassuring squeeze. "Are you sure you're alright? I know this is hard on you…" Probably harder then it is on Niva, even, considering it /is/ Kysli.

Kysli nods somewhat, "I'll be alright… just… I'm scared." Yes she admits it, "But I'm not the only one affected." She doesn't want to dwell on herself, there are others that this is hard for and yes, that includes Niva.

Niva bites her lip for a long moment and nods her head slowly. "I know, Kys, I think we all are. But try not to think about it… Focus on your wing duties." Anything. "That doesn't matter.." Niva's learned to divorce herself from her emotions when they can be dangerous. Something Healers need to do.

Kysli sighs and closes her eyes, leaning into the hand that is resting on her shoulder just a little. The touch is comforting it seems, and the rider relaxes just a little. She'll get through this in one piece, as long as C'ian is okay. Not that he is in truth but she doesn't know how bad it is.

Niva stays balanced on the armrest of the sofa, leaning back slightly with a soft sigh of her own. "Kys, just relax. It'll all be alright. We'll find them both and we'll make sure it never happens again."

Kysli nods obidiently, she's trying really. Trying hard, but it is difficult. And C'ian has been the one who comforts her in the past, but he isn't here… she doesn't have her normal support and that makes it just that much worse.

Niva normally would want to pinch the woman or something to get her to snap out of it, but at this point in time, atleast, she's simply not that mean. Another squeeze of her shoulder and Niva stretches to reach for her klah mug, holding it in her other hand and resting it against her thigh.

Kysli slowly seems to relax, muscles in her shoulder obviously loosening under the healer's hand so she'd be able to tell. She wants to talk about something it seems, but doesn't know what. Opening her eyes she leans back so she can look up at the healer.

Niva loosens her hold on the brownrider's shoulder as the other relaxes, taking that opportunity to sip at her klah, resting the bottom of the mug once more on her thigh as she finishes. "Hm?" is inquired offhandedly as the Brownie looks up.

Kysli gives a shrug, and was really just looking at the other though she seems thoughtful. But again she shrugs and stiffle a yawn.

Niva grins slightly and shakes her head at the other, leaning back against the short back of the couch behind her once more. "Tired, Kys?"

Kysli nods, no point in denying it as she's obviously quite tired. Something is on her mind though, but she says nothing, brow furrowed slightly in thought.'

Niva arches an eyebrow at Kysli, sighing softly as she sips at her klah. "Are you sure there's nothing, Kys? I'll listen…" She's hyped up on klah, she's not about to fall asleep, especially with another shift in the infirmary infront of her.

Kysli bites her lip and shrugs, "Just thinking really…" Her mind wanders off on tangents alot. Especially at times like this, when anything is better to think about than the problem at hand.

Niva hms softly with a slow nod, staying quiet for a long moment as she stares across the living cavern before glancing back down at the other. "About what?"

Kysli tilts her head, "Kind of random things…" Shrug yet again, that's something she's been doing quite often.

Niva takes a sip of her klah, nearly falling off the arm rest as she does so, looking sheepishly at the brownrider as she catches herself. Resettling, she hms at the shrug. "What type of random things?"

Kysli grins slightly at the sheepish look. "Want to sit on the couch? Has to be more comfortable." She'll answer after getting a response for that one.

Niva giggles softly and nods, sliding off the armrest onto the couch itself, leaning against it instead. "Thanks… Was a bit unsteady up there."

Kysli smiles, seeming to cheer up a bit, though there is a bit of shifting before she mentions what she was thinking about. "Kind of thinking about the whole… thing with me and you… where do we stand?" There that's out, she doesn't want the other to dislike her, she knows that much..

Niva had started to lift her mug to take a sip of her klah before resting it on her thigh once more, glancing over at the other curiously. "You know, I haven't really given it much thought as of late… considering." Well, everything. "Where /do/ we stand?" Kys can try to stumble through it as well. Hah.

Kysli doesn't seem to really know the answer to that and stays quiet for awhile. "I'm not sure…" Her head tilts to one side as she thinks. She'd rather get along with the other girl.

Niva nods slowly with a soft, pondering 'hm'. "Do you have any thoughts on how you'd like us to be?" Healerite wouldn't want to suggest anything that was completely out of the picture, afterall.

Kysli looks down at her hands and doesn't seem too sure. "I don't want to be enemies." There, that's her input. Healer's turn now…

Niva grins slightly at the input of the other, nodding slowly. And she tries to act hesitant as she adds her own. "I wouldn't want to be enemies either." Bit messy. "What about friends?"

Kysli nods some, smiling as the other speaks. She was hoping for friends, sincerely hoping. "Sounds good." And she seems happy about it too.

Niva nods then, securing the deal as she takes a long gulp, draining her klah mug. "Certainly sounds good to me, too." Perhaps C'ian getting kidnapped wasn't /completely/ for the worst. Bad, o'course, but not without its perks.

Kysli smiles at the other girl lightly. They might as well be friends anyhow right? Both having to deal with Casp and such.
