An Awkward Meeting

Xanadu Weyr - Caverns
A massive cavern in it's own right, this one has been skillfully adapted for human habitation. The high ceilings have been painted a light, soft ivory, as are the walls where numerous tapestries hang to provide brilliant colour and insulation from the stone. The floor has been left in its natural state, pale pink granite speckled through with glittering mica and dark flecks of basalt, leveled carefully but kept sufficiently rough to avoid slips.
The cavern itself is loosely divided into areas, each one set up to be suitable for some segment of the Weyr's population. The most frequently occupied area, however, is the one near the Kitchens where tables of varying sizes provide a place to sit down and eat or chat and a buffet of consumables is almost always kept stocked. Its plain that on most days, this area wouldn't accommodate anywhere near the full population of the Weyr and equally plain that on such occasions when a formal meal is laid out, tables are appropriated from all the other areas.
A big fireplace is set into the wall near the Kitchens as well, several comfortable chairs nearby providing haunts for elderly residents or riders who like a good view of all that happens. Rugs cover the floor in strategic spots, all of them abstract or geometric in design and most in the softly neutral colours of undyed wool.
Exits lead off in all directions, a big archway the largest and that leading outside. Shallow stairs to the west lead to the offices and administration area while tunnels to the east lead to the infirmary, kitchen and resident's quarters. Southwards, a sloping tunnel leads down to the hot springs and southwest is a wide tunnel, carefully roped off to avoid accidents.

Kysli wanders in from the clearing, tucking hair back under her hat, or attempting to. She heads to a serving table where some food is set out, grabbing a few meatrolls before pouring herself a glass of juice.

Jutin sits at one of the tables, though his face dosn't seem to be covered with soot today. Instead between his arms is a brown hatchling of a firelizard, Jutin gives it a few coos while his other firelizard Warlin sits on his shoulder overlooking the messy affair.

Niva is sulking in the same chair she's been in since finally convincing Bergerath to give her a ride down from Kysli's weyr after the Healer had completely slept herself out. And missed 2 shifts, but atleast nothing serious happened. A mug of klah is gripped tightly in her hands, and she simply stares at nothing, not paying much attention to either Jutin, the firelizards, or Kysli's entrance.

Kysli starts walking towards where the healer sits, a slightly wary smile on her face. Yes, she's quite aware of her dragon's uncooperative attitude with Niva earlier. Ahem, very aware.

Looking around for a few seconds, Jutin gives a few scritches to his hatchling before pulling out a small vial of oil and opening it. Daming it with a cloth, Jutin takes it and wipes the skin of the hatchling a few times to keep its shine. Standing up, with brown in arms, Jutin walks over towards the front tables, maybe to catch a bit of conversation, and also to get his mind of the new hatchling.

Niva didn't blame it all on Bergerath. Not at all. Since she's more then a little sure that Kysli was involved. A great deal. Taking a sip of her klah, her eyes dart over to the rider, bobbing her head slightly in recognition without saying a word. Jutin and the tiny brown get the same response.

Kysli had absolutely nothing to do with it, really. Um yeah. Jutin is offered a wave as the woman sits down near Niva. "Hello, sleep well?" Her expression is just a little innocent at that question.

If ignorance was one of Jutins three specialties, it seems to show through right about now as he keeps a smile and a happy face, oblivious to any underlying emotions around himself. Sitting across from Kysli, Jutin gives a warm smile and says "Good day Kysli!" before turning to Niva and offering the same.

Niva mutters something along the lines of 'It is day, isn't it. I can't believe I slept so long' while directing a look at Kysli, a blank expression on her face. And she rolls her eyes, taking a sip of klah. "I thought you said you'd wake up me?"

Kysli smiles to the apprentice smith, "Good day." She still has a smile while turning back to Niva. "I never said when." is simply stated, and it is true.

Thinking it could just be some friendly greetings going on in front of him, Jutin smiles and says "I recently got this new hatchling…not sure what to name him though…" Jutin holds his brown up a little higher so everyone nearby can see, "Got next few days off from my duties so I can care for the young one."

Niva makes another face at the wingleader with a soft sigh. "I assumed it would be earlier then that. What if something had happened? Noone would have known where to find me." Secreted away as she seems to believe she was. Glancing over at Jutin, she tilts her head to watch the hatchling, before giving a slight shrug. "Not sure what to tell you.. names aren't my specialty."

Kysli just shakes her head and leans back in her chair, the plate on a small endtable beside her and glass in her hands. "I told them to let me know if you were needed. I would have told you." Yes Bergerath had been talking to the healer a bit, just firmly telling her that he wasn't taking her back down until she got more sleep. "I made sure to take care of that, and the other healers didn't object." Especially not as Niva was getting a little short at times from lack of sleep

All these talks of needing to be awoken and sleep? Jutin only knows one thing, and sleep is good! Such a rare commodity for an apprentice, even moreso for one with a new hatchling to take care of. Smileing he says "Needed? For what?…anything intresting going on that I missed? This young one here has been keeping my attention and my sleep if nothing else." His inquisitive nature shines through a little bit, though…not too much at once.

"Oh, you know. Needed for anything that the incompetant apprentices can't take care of, despite thinking they can." She didn't need upset patients on her hands. Sighing softly, Niva glances over at Kysli with another roll of her eyes. "Still…" And she stretches slightly before sipping at her klah. "But… I suppose it was nice to actually sleep."

Kysli smiles lightly though it is halfhidden behind the glass of juice, which she takes another sip from. "So how old is your little boy?" is asked of the smithcrafter.

Jutin gets a hurt look on his face when he hears Nivas remark about apprentices, turning his head so she can't see his face, he quickly puts up a front to keep his real emotions covered up as he faces Kysli. Smileing briefly he says "Less then a sevenday I'm afraid…lucky Warlin is helping me out during these times…I'd go crazy every time this one wakes up and wants more food or something else."

Niva glances over at Jutin for a moment, shaking her head. "The incompetent apprentice healers.. Not all apprentices." And she sighs loudly as she props her chin in her empty hand. An eyebrow arches at the age of the firelizard and she makes a face. "Worse then kids, they are…"

Kysli laughs and shakes her head again. "No… they grow up faster." Then there is a moment of thought and adds, "on the other hand they act like kids long enough…" Hm.

Giving a slight 'meh', Jutin only shakes his head as looks down at the brown again before saying…"I think…I'll name you Amarak…nice enough name for one such as you, rolls off the tongue, and perfect for yelling." Jutin gets a real smile on his face now, almost having completely forgotten the insult handed towards his kind only a few moments ago.

Niva glances over at Kysli with a shake of her head. "But with kids you can trade off duties. You aren't stuck with them constantly." Doesn't mean Niva's in any mood whatsoever to have kids. Ever. Its bad enough with Dani's kids are there. "Amarak?" Niva glances over at the smith before nodding slowly. "Nice ring to it.."

Kysli grins at the healer and shakes her head. "I like that…" is actually directed to Jutin. Placing the glass aside she stretches a little.

Taking a free hand and running it through his hair, Jutin smiles as he looks up, "Don't know, but hopefully Warlin is onna help me out and help train Amarak…right Warlin?" Jutin turns to glare at his blue, with the evil eye (tm) before turning back to the other two…"Anyways…any news around the weyr worth hearing? I know somethngs about, but you know, we apprentices…and one that hasn't been doing chores for the last few days even more so…don't get current news too often…"

Niva glances over at Kysli curious, before looking back at Jutin, shaking her head slowly, sipping at her klah. "I don't know what's happened in the past day because /someone/ kept me stuck in her weyr until she thought I'd slept enough." And a glare is tossed at Kys, as the Healer tries hard not to giggle.

Kysli manages to stiffle a slight grin and glare right back. "Because /someone/ hasn't been sleeping nearly enough." And she as well is obviously trying not to laugh, already the grin coming through.

Opening both eyes wide at this exchange, Jutin decides being quiet is the better part of valor and instead only smiles. Reaching one hand up to his blues neck, he gives a few scritches down the neck before waiting the storm out in front of him.

Niva fakes hurt, jaw dropping as a hand goes to her chest and she just… sputters. "Well, if /someone/ hadn't just disappeared, I wouldn't have a problem sleeping. So it seems to me all the problems are the fault of our dear Weyrleader." Who she's going to blame no matter what his current condition.

Kysli has gotten control of the grin again and nods in agreement. "If he would have /listened/, but no… of course not." Yes, she is worried sick about C'ian but… she has been needing to lighten up and well…

Considering the moods he has seen recently from Kysli, Jutin grins if nothing more then because Kysli seems to be doing better, "Well…what ever happened about the ransom note? I heard of it being delivered and all that, but not if we're gonna give in to the scum…?"

Niva nods slowly to Kysli. "He'll never listen. Although maybe now he'll think twice about doing stupid things." Which is what she still considers having run off by himself. Hmming softly at Jutin, she shrugs slowly, glancing over at the wingleader. "Kys'd know better then me. I'd have no reason to know…"

Kysli sobers a little and then thinks for a moment. "Even I'm not sure…" She's stayed out of it a bit as her emotions were getting too much in the way.

"And here…I thought I was talking to the best informed people in the weyr…so much for that bright idea…" Jutin gives a sigh as more questions then awnsers fill his thoughts…"Hopefully he'll be back soon…I hear there might be a fun party for when he does"

Niva has to stiffle a laugh at that comment, with a hurried shake of her head. "We're only informed with C'ian's around. Otherwise, noone sees fit to tell us anything." Not that'd have any real reason to know, anyway. An eyebrow's arched and she glances over at Kysli curiously before back at the smith. "We don't even know what condition he'll be in when we finally get him back.."

Kysli smirks somewhat and then nods at the healer's statement. She knows some but isn't going to go into it, for more than one reason. Stiffling a yawn she picks up the juice again

Picking up a meatroll and offering it to Amarak, Jutin smiles as he gives it a small coo in hopes it'll eat it and he won't have to worry about feeding it for oh…the next 3 minutes…"Oh well, thats still a bit better informed then an out apprentice, its like people make sure I don't get to hear anything new…'

Niva won't admit that she has some vague idea from Alhenaeth, if only because she doesn't want to think about it either. A wave of her hand at Jutin, and she grins. "You're little. You should be able to sneak about and find out what you need to know better then either of us."

Kysli cracks a smile. "And what you don't need to know as well…" She has experience with that one, wasnt' always the most angelic child. Really wasn't, oh no, not Kysli.

Jutin suddenly starts whistleing, though if its from a bit of knowledge, or a trying to cover up a lack thereof…he smiles a bit and raises both of his hands in surrender, "Wouldn't know what you're talking about

Niva nods quickly, at Kysli's statement before peering over at the brownrider with an arched eyebrow. Wait.. Kysli… bad!? The world's coming to an end! She laughs softly at the two, with a shake of her head. "Then you must be better informed then either of us, so you should be giving us the dirt.

Kysli smirks yet again and just gives the healer a purely innocent look. "I used to be good at that… though I admit. Needed to work on my pickpocket skills." Just like some people need to work on say… tying shoelaces?

It seems Jutin dosn't seem to have the stuff to gain 'inside' information, but under his cover, he comes into his own right with mass confusion. "Well…now that we know I might be the only one who hasn't been tainted with the evil thoughts that seem to abide at this table, I know I'm still pure and honest to a fault!"

Niva waves the mug that once contained klah (which now, luckily, is completely gone) around, with a shake of her head. "Whatever are you talking about? Kysli and I here are both entirely pure and honest. Now." In the past… that's more likely then not a whole different story. Besides, they have their reputations to maintain.

Kysli is pure and honest /now/. "Yeah, learned my lesson… quite well." And that is mainly true right there. There is a mischievious little grin though at Jutin, "And I have information that could /easily/ prove that claim of 'pure and honest' as false"

Falling back on the old whistleing standby, Jutin just smiles, "Oh well…you know theres candlemarks in the night that belong only to apprentices…even more so to ones with great plans." Jutin gets the fire in hie eyes at this point…almost needing a bucket brigade to put them out.

Niva arches an eyebrow at Kysli's last bit, glancing over to the Smith for a long moment before looking back at the brownrider. "And would you care to divulge that information, so we can figure out just how unpure he is?" A roll of her eyes at Jutin, and she makes a face. "Just stay out of my infirmary, got it?" And a smile tugs at the corners of her mouth at the look on his face.

Kysli looks innocent at Niva. "But he might end up /in/ the infirmary if he's not careful." Jutin /does/ get a pointed look at that, yes that is partly serious. Then she shakes her head with a cute grin. "Nah… I can't tell you /that/"

"Oh yeah…if me…or any other smith apprentices suddenly have really bad facial burns…I deny all responsbility for injuries and events leading up to them." Jutin says, though why hes trying to defend himself already…when hes not guilty? Might seem a bit odd to most people…

Niva hides her face momentarily in one hand, lifting her chin to glance from one to the other. "Please do your best to be careful. Afterall, I'd rather not have the lot of you cluttering up my space because of whatever impure stunt you're going to pull."

Kysli gives a nod and stiffles a yawn. "No hurting yourselfves or others…" Then he'd have her on his case as well… and probably the weyrleader.

"But…it was an accident…err…neverrmind that…no need to know right?" Jutin gives a big cheesy grin, as if trying to convince people not to pay attention to what he had just said. "Anyways, its part of a special event we're gonna put on for the part when C'ian comes back."

Niva nods slowly, echoing Kysli's admonition, arching an eyebrow at Jutin. "If you know about it in advance, it's not an accident." No matter what people claim. And she blinks slightly. "You'd better not be blowing up his Weyr. I'm sure he'd really love that one after escaping."

Kysli leans back in her chair and goes back to calmly sipping her juice. This is going to be an interesting person to have around, but she already knew that.

"Umm…well…err…no comments then?" Jutin smiles as he pets Amarak, who seems to have taken the chance and gone to sleep, tail curled up along its body. "Well…in any case, I don't plan on blowing anything up…but people might get hurt to make sure its safe…we're careful though! Apprentices have a sixth sense for avoiding danger….at least I know a few of them that do."

Niva sighs softly, shaking her head once more, glancing back and forth between the pair of them. Then she simply gets to her feet, headed towards the kitchen to deposit her empty mug. "My shift's about to start. I'd better be going… Nice talking to you both." And she scurries off before she hears any more about possible injuries or explosions.
