Random Log: T'eo is Tapped

Caverns

A massive cavern in it's own right, this one has been skillfully adapted for human habitation. The high ceilings have been painted a light, soft ivory, as are the walls where numerous tapestries hang to provide brilliant colour and insulation from the stone. The floor has been left in its natural state, pale pink granite speckled through with glittering mica and dark flecks of basalt, leveled carefully but kept sufficiently rough to avoid slips.
The cavern itself is loosely divided into areas, each one set up to be suitable for some segment of the Weyr's population. The most frequently occupied area, however, is the one near the Kitchens where tables of varying sizes provide a place to sit down and eat or chat and a buffet of consumables is almost always kept stocked. Its plain that on most days, this area wouldn't accommodate anywhere near the full population of the Weyr and equally plain that on such occasions when a formal meal is laid out, tables are appropriated from all the other areas.
A big fireplace is set into the wall near the Kitchens as well, several comfortable chairs nearby providing haunts for elderly residents or riders who like a good view of all that happens. Rugs cover the floor in strategic spots, all of them abstract or geometric in design and most in the softly neutral colours of undyed wool.
Exits lead off in all directions, a big archway the largest and that leading outside. Shallow stairs to the west lead to the offices and administration area while tunnels to the east lead to the infirmary, kitchen and resident's quarters. Southwards, a sloping tunnel leads down to the hot springs and southwest is a wide tunnel, carefully roped off to avoid accidents.

Niva is settled down into an oversized chair near the hearth, a drink within easy reach, and a bundled up infant in her lap. A finger is idly brushed over the baby's nearly bald head before, without letting go completely, she takes a drink from her glass, returning it to the table to continue carefully holding Vivian.

T'eo strides on in, smelling strongly of fish and turpentine. Indeed as he goes along he's given several unhappy looks. Not his fault, honest, he didn't mean to slip on the wet sealing and fall into a bucket of sea carp. Raenth was quite displeased with his passenger to say the least. But now all T'eo needed was a mug of tea and a couple sugar cubes.

Niva looks up at the disruption, her attention taken momentarily from the infant, resulting in a rather loud scream of protest, considering its coming from something so little and young. And immediately her attention goes back to the girl, shushing her quietly and rubbing a hand over her forehead, pulling her closer to her body. The weyrwoman sneaks a glance in the direction of the cause of the disruption, shaking her head slightly with a grin.

T'eo looks up sharply at the defiant squeal of some little beasty. Oh. It's just Niva's baby. Wait a minute! He looks about again in a sort of double take. When did this happen? He must not see Niva often enough. He grabs up his drink and wanders on over to the Weyrwoman, seemingly oblivious to his own stench. "Well now, I go off on the ships for a sevenday and comes back to this?"

Niva diverts her attention back to Vivian as she continues to cry, the weyrwoman carefully shifting her to her shoulder to rub the infant's back, one hand on her head as she glances up at T'eo with a bit of a giggle. "At least it wasn't that L'alie of yours." That would have been an even greater surprise." And she winks before waving him to a nearby chair, wrinkling her nose slightly at the stench but attempting to be polite.

T'eo gives a concurring laugh and takes a seat. "Yeah. That would have been something." He takes a sip from his tea. Erp. Hot. Why does he always do that. "So, what's this little's name?"

Niva carefully turns the infant so that her reddish face and the normal blue eyes of a baby are visible to T'eo as she grins, trying to get her to quiet down the rest of the way yet. "Vivian.." And she glances up at T'eo herself with a grin. "You tend to be somewhat behind when you're out on those ships of yours.."

T'eo nods approvingly of the name and smiles at the baby. "Yeah… I get rather caught up in it all. Now that I can do it again, I mean. But Raenth tries to keep me up to date on things. Unfortunately with his avid dragonic social life, a lot gets spared. Such as this."

Vivian finally stops crying, though her red face remains scrunched up as if it could begin again at any point, without any warning. Leaning the baby against her, both hands supporting her, Niva glances over at T'eo. "And, well, some things are better found out in person."

T'eo nods in agreement. Raenth rumbles something at him from outside. Something about wings and how he STILL hadn't checked on his, and why don't he ask Niva about making an appointment to check for openings. "Er… yeah… oh… um, I still need to make an appointment to check on wings and such too. Raenth just reminded me. I wonder who reminded him." He chuckles.

Niva grins, and nods her head quickly, grin widening at the question. "I was actually going to get to that. We've been trying to get people settled into wings, and with you being gone for the seven-day we haven't been able to. But if you wait just a moment.." And she glances around, grabbing the nearest unsuspecting weyrbrat to send to her office, giving specific instructions for the boy to get the pouch labeled 'T'eo' only and to return quickly, she glances back at the bronzerider. "Appropriate timing, I might say, though.

T'eo chuckles a bit in relief at that. "I shall tell Raenth then. Silly dragon. Yeah, I kinda jumped in the chance to get back to the boats I forgot about the wings. I'm surprised Raenth didn't remind me sooner, actually."

The boy comes running back into the caverns, face flushed as he offers the pouch to Niva, who takes it with a smile and a thank you before turning to offer it to T'eo, even as Vivi reaches fisted hands towards it. "Inside is your proper knot, and the Cyclone badge. You may speak to Daniella about a balance between your craft and wing duties." And she grins, "Congratulations."

T'eo takes the bag with a lop-sdied grin. "Ah yes, Daniella. Thank you, weyrwoman." He tucks the bag so it hangs from his belt before taking another sip of tea. "Well, I'm glad that was mostly harmless. Heh…" He looks at the little one who tried to grab the bag. "Curious, babies are."

Niva nods her head with a grin, offering a finger to the infant as she rests her on her arm, grinning and glancing sidelong at T'eo as she does so. "They are, indeed.. Though she's already more demanding then I would have thought…" Just.. fear. "Though, they're more curious if they're yours.."

T'eo takes a sip of his tea. This time it's not nearly as hot. "Mm… I suppose their alot like hatchlings then? With their demanding ways?" He drops a couple sugar cubes in. "or flits?"

Niva grins and nods her head, tilting her head down to look at the infant in her lap. "Most certainly.. Only I think the demanding ways have already lasted longer then Kilaueth's ever did." And then she glances towards the entrance to the caverns, blinking slightly. "I.. I should go. I think Kilaueth needs to get out of here." And she bobs her head as she carefully gets up, keeping Vivian close to her body as she inclines her head. "Congratulations, again." And then she's moving quickly out of the area.
