Blown Off the Charts

Xanadu Weyr - Beach
The unerring range of subdued white rises and falls in a multitude of sandy dunes, creating an endless amount of tiny valleys constantly demolished and rebuilt by the frequent arrival or departure of a dragon. Smoothing out as it slopes gently to the edge of the deep blue water, the sand darkens and a shell here and there stands out for children to collect. The beach itself is set along a low cliff - the height lessoning as one heads eastwards, blocking a portion of the beach from direct access.
The wide wide stretch of water opens up to the east, the far distant shore way beyond the horizon and the beach curves ever so slowly round to east and west, distant arms of land embracing the wind-ruffled Caspian Lake. East leads up to the mouth of the Rubicon River, where the protecting cliff is merely an arms length higher then the sand, and beyond that, a winding road leading out of Xanadu's territory. Westwards, the beach narrows as the cliff swings out, leaving a path wide enough for dragons in single file before cutting in to the sheltered cove designated the Weyrling Beach. However, cut in the cliff face to the north are a variety of rough, wide staircases, providing access to the clearing and to the meadow.

White and billowy, it's a strange ship that seems to navigate around at the beach today. Peering closer, that ship seems to hover above the sea but a sea of dunes. "Shards!!!!" breaks the silence and the white sail breaks. Eltanin jumps to grab it before the wind becomes too strong. The starcrafter is studying again. Sigh. At least he's outdoors.

Kera trots along at Moncerath's side trying to keep up with the young green's hop-skitter bounds across the sandy little dunes. Minimur flitters in a chaotic manner above the greenling pair, til the sudden movement of the white sail catches his attention, and he darts that way in a chittering brown blur. Kera follows Minimur's path with her gaze and catches a fluttler of white that catche sher curiosity too. As Moncerath and herself get closer, Eltanin is spotted and she coaxes the growing green to slow stop a few meters away.

Eltanin works on preventing his pile of starcharts using the weight of sand but Pern's nature seems to be against him as another wind blow makes a quite wide chart fly. Hurrying after it, Tani nearly stumbles. Luckily or not, the chart's course is stopped by a silhouette. A large….green…silhouette. Mortified, Eltanin, nearly breathless, bites his lower lip as his gaze darts from the green Dragonet to Kera. "I'm sorry Kera…Tell…err…tell her, I'm sorry…."

Kera can't help but chuckle at Eltanin's attempts to catch his wayward charts. Reaching a hand out to assure her dragonmate that there is nothing to be startled over, the green tromping a paw down int he sand trying to pin the wind blown chart before it can get by her. Kera waves off the appology "G'day Eltanin, nothing to be sorry for." As Moncerath lifts her onyx taloned paw slowly "I appologize if her talons make holes." While she talks, Minikur lands on the sand nearby, his attention caught by the other charts, their corners fluttering.

Eltanin bends some to grab the flying charts. There is a hole indeed but luckily at one of the edge. "Oh don't worry. Those are only copies." Grinning and straightening, he flashes a broad smile. "Thank you a lot, Green lady. You saved me a breathless run." To the brown firelizard he chuckles. "Good day to you too, Kera." He begins, rolling up the map. "I know I always seems to study but at least, I do it outdoors now." He winks. "And how is whirling life?" Another quick glance at Minimur and he sighs a bit. "What a poor impression I gave the other day at the cafe…."

Kera reaches down to extracate the chart from Moncerath's talon. Offering it back to Eltanin with a little chuckle, she rolls her eyes at Minimur's pouncing and scabbling at the fluttering and flickering corners of the stack of charts. The starcrafter's greeting draws a pleased warble from Moncerath as she lifts her head a bit higher, her oversized wings drooping a bit as she relaxes them from her back. Kera cast a quizzical look to the young man, but nods "Not boring that's for sure. Whenever I can find a few minutes to study, I end up drifting off lately." As she talks, she and the young green head towards the water, Moncerath wading in a few paces and promtply proceeds to start blowing bubbles so they tickle her nose. Kera crouches a few times, plucking something frm the sand before returning and holding out a couple of little rocks "Use these to hold your charts down." Looking Eltanin over curiously and shakes her head "I'm not really sure what you mean. I was really tired the other day."

"Me too." Tani replies taking the offered rocks. "Thanks that'll surely be helpful." He starts to play with the small peebles in his hands. "You know, I finally caught Akrab in the kitchen just in time." He sticks his tongue out playfully, looking at Moncerath. "She seems to grow fast." He softly says, admiring the Dragonet's graceful figure. "A very lovely Dragon, you have…"

Kera chuckles and nods as her memory is jogged over the cute little lizard's attempted chaos. "I hope ya didn't scold him too harshly." Looking from the charts to where Moncerath is playing in the water, she kicks her sandals off and moves towards water. Slowing long enough to roll up the bottom of her pants, Kera splashes water up onto Moncerath's hide. Glancing back to Eltanin over her shoulder, a little grin tips and head nod "Yea. I'ld swear I can tell that she's grown between one nap and the next. Isn't that right Mon." Proceeding to splash water over the nearly five meter long dragonet. She can't help but nod agreeably with Eltanin's assessment of her dragonmate "Thank you, I think so too." Smirking to the starcrafter "Her wings look a bit large, but that's better than a big ole butt like Innes's queenling has."

Eltanin ambles closer, hands in his pockets and the rolled up map under one arm. Looks like it's bath time. Shaking his head his smile widens. "I scolded him…properly but too harshly. How could I? He so knows how to manipulate me, chirping poorly and all." Soon, he too has his boots removed to feel the waters. Maybe he'll find a peaceful break from his dusty maps after all. But then, a sudden laughter shakes his whole body. "Big ole butt? Innes or her queen?" He can't stop laughing.

Kera blinks to Eltanin and bust out laughing over his little clarification. "I was referring to Kairo actually, but with Innes eating when her queenling's hungry… she just may develope one of her own, who knows." Fumbling around in her waist pouch, she pulls out a palm sized scrub brush, and starts working it over Moncerath's soaked hide. Watching Eltanin take his boots off, she eyes the charts clutched under his arm "You don't wanna get those wet do ya?" A quick gesture towards what she's refering to before going back to swiping the brush in circular motions. The young green's head droops slightly as she enjoys the scratchy attention.

Eltanin tries to recover his calm, coughing some, a tear appearing at one corner of his eye. "They're known to grow the largest…" He manages to say, adding quickly. "Queen Dragons I mean…" With that he winks but lifts a brow at Kera's last comment and his gaze follows hers. "Oh yeah, right." Silly him he didn't even noticed he was in the waters up to his knees. He grabs the map, searches in his pocket for a small rope and wraps it around the rolled tube of paper. With that he adopts a kind of hunter's stance and throws the map in the sand of the shore quite hard. "Let's hope it'll stick there." Turning to Kera he adds. "I hope I'm not disturbing you tho."

Kera grins and reaches over to gently scratch Moncerath's eye ridges when the green's muzzle droops into the water a few inches. Shaking her head in amusement, knowing that bubbles will soon follow, Kera looks to see Eltanin strapping his map into some sorta contraption. Following it with her gaze, smirking as it is pounced soon after hitting the sand. "I doubt it will wander very far, not with Minimur stalking it." A quick shake of her head to Eltanin "Oh not at all. How are ya getting on in the crafter's caverns?"

"Oh…it goes…well…" comes Eltanin's voice rather muffled as he works on removing his shirt. The idea of a bath obviously reaches his mind. Soon his shirt is also on the shore and he starts to relax. "You did tell him it was not edible, right?" He asks chuckling but, in a blink, he nearly chokes, something else reaching his brain. "Shards! Shards! Shards! I forgot…." Involuntarily splashing waters, he rushes over to the shore. Okay he was not that far but he hurries anyway. "I had to report to the journeyman an hour ago…." He continues to run, grabbing his boots and shirt on his way. "Sorry Kera…Will…see you…later….." Another wind blow makes the rolled map move until it finally reaches the ground and starts to roll down. And there he forgot his maps again…
