Drying Out and Warming Up

Xanadu Weyr - Observation Level
Dark blue seats form a semi-circle around the sands below, the lowest row separating from the sands themselves by merely a railing. The seats climb upwards, each row a bit higher then the previous, and they are broken up into sections by 3 sets of staircases. Lights are evenly spaced along the outer wall, lighting the seats and the sands easily, though they tend to be dimmed unless a major event is taking place. A large balcony looms overhead, darkening some of the seats, providing a place for observers of the draconic kind to watch without obstructing the view for others.
When one looks over the railing, the oddly hued sand below can be seen easily, the circle-shaped area of the sands spread out to the far walls, the sand itself a unique mixture of red and white grains.

After bathing the dragons, which was more of a drench the candidates exploit, [[[player:Kera]] is in dry clothes but still with wet hair. What better place to dry out, around the hot sands of coarse. With a sketch book clutched under her arm and her ever present shoulder satchel slung over her head, Kera makes her way quietly towards the second level or seating, nodding and sending quiet waves to those already scattered along the rows. A soft fluttering signals Minimur arriving. The brown perches on the back of a seat near where his person is plopping down onto. "Shh, behave Mini." is whispered to her little friend before opening her sketch book and looking to the sands below. Fidgeting about for a moment, Kera props the sketchpad on her lap and reaches into her satchel.

Eltanin is finishing drying his hair, wiggling his towel in almost any directions. Hearing a voice breaking the almost religious silence he perks, grinning as he now recognizes a familiar face. "Hey Kera…" He calls as low as he can before reaching her side. "Looks like we had the same idea."

Kera fumbles around in the satchel while her gaze drifts along from one egg to the next. A hushed voice draws her out of her eggy contemplation, and Eltanin is recognized in the dim lighting. Tugging a slim box out of the bag, she waves it at him when he approaches, then smirks at his question "What's that? Warming up? Most definately." Reaching up she tries to break up the wet clumps dangling from her head a few seconds before shrugging and opening her little case, which contains a variety of slim colorful sketch sticks. Canting her head at Eltanin briefly and gives him a polite nod "Sorry about the confusion earlier, assuming you were one of the candidates I mean." Leave it to her to make yet another bad first impression.

Eltanin dismisses Kera's last words with a hand, taking a seat next to her but trying not to disturb her drawing. "It's alright, really. I needed all that fun." He admits, letting out a soft sigh. "I always enjoyed swimming although I must admit that getting almost licked by a huge Bronze Dragon was a very first." He stifles a chuckle but his smile fades out right after, obviously remembering something painful. He stays silent, eyes lingering on all the eggs on the sands. "I shall cheer for you, Kera." His voice finally comes out again.

Kera leans back and braces her foot up on the bottom edge of the seat in front of her, repositioning the pad and plucking a dull grey stick from the others. Chuckling as she scans the sands, her eyes resting on one egg a moment longer than the rest, she continues on in a hushed chuckling whisper. "I'm actually starting to get the hang of how to wash a dragon now. But there is just no preparing for a dragonpowered waterjet to the face." Tilting her gaze to Eltanin a few seconds "Next time, try to jump in his mouth /before/ he sends one of us bowling over. Kay?" Flashing an amused smirk, her color stick drags across the pad, adding a few eggy shapes scattered. Frequent flicks of her eyes to this spot of the sands or another before her gaze flicks back down again. "I'll just be cheering that no one gets hurt down there. Thank you though." A little smile is tilted Eltanin's way, and a curious little frown "Have you been at Xanadu long? I've been so busy that it's hard to spot new faces quickly."

Eltanin shakes his head to withdraw some of his thoughts and looks back at Kera, a smile edging his lips again. "Next time we'll have to team up then." he winks, looking at the sands again. "I hope that too. I've been told Dragonets can be quite nervous when popping out of their shells." he lets out another long sigh and follows. "I've only been here for a couple of sevendays so it's not your memory. I'm just very new." he grins peeking at your drawing. "You're talented…"

Kera ah's softly and nods her head a couple of times as she adds a few more seemingly random circles, one looking somewhat boxy in shape. "That certainly explains it. With our chores and then we all got lost at Camp Swamp.." She shakes her head "Well then a belated welcometo Xanadu. I still have the old map I used when I first arrived if ya need it." A little smirk given along with a quick glance to the sands again. Peeking up at the compliment, she gives a self concious little shrug "Oh, I can't really sketch well. I'm just making myself a little…. coded chart.. for lack of a better term… for a couple of threadwork projects I got in mind." Brandishing with her colored sticks "Just to get little differances, colors, shapes that stand out type thing."

Eltanin continues to carefully look at what Kera is drawing. "I still think you can sketch and well that is." There is a moment of silence as he gazes at the sands and back at her again. "So you can sew too. I'm impressed…I mean…you maybe will soon. Oh well I didn't mean the bad pun." He lightly chuckles, adding quickly. "It's also maybe a way to keep you busy, eh?"

Kera can't help but chuckle at Eltanin statement and nods "Thanks…Clothes, pictures, people, I guess ya could say I know my way around a needle." Flashing a quick glance and grin to Eltanin, she is quick to return her attention between the eggs and her sketch pad, switching color sticks and adding a few oblong jags over one egg. "No worries. I knew what ya meant. " His last comment turns out to be a little of an understatement. "Ya could say that again. Cause dropping us in the middle of a swamp just didn't keep us busy enough." the candidate healer smirks and shakes her head at that. Adding a few more smudges on a particular egg, she glances back to Eltanin. "So you're getting along in the crafter's dorms then…" She stops her hands suddenly and cast a frown to the other crafter "Just a little word of caution…keep track of your soapsands…..anyone could tamper with it…" And dye you purple from head to toe.

"People? Please remind me not to upset you. I wouldn't want to wake up all stitched up in my own cot." Eltanin chuckles, shaking his head a bit. "I heard about the Camp Swamp. At least everyone finally found his way back." Another chuckle escapes Eltanin's mouth at the mention of the soapsand but he covers it with one hand quickly, not wanting to disturb the relative silence of the place. "I will try to remember that. I think I'm making my way around nicely. At least I try…" He trails off, his smile turning into a frown as he follows in a sigh. "…but I won't be able to attend the Hatching though." Another long sigh here. "Remember the yelling Journeyman? Well, as an apprentice, I have to assist one of his class back there at Telgar. I'm cursed…"

Kera grins and blinks at the crafter a bit more, sorta giving him a quick visual scan before going on "He must be impressed with you if he lets you assist his classes. Perhaps your being considered for promotion." Flashing a grin, she reaches foward and nudges her lizard over a few inches, he was blocking her view of an egg. "Well, the riders keep saying 'soon'….and I have seen a few more Holders around the last couple of days than…Along with other big huge ckoing knots…" Kera smirks to herslef "Who knows, maybe you'll finish the lesson and return soon enough." Canting her head, she points towards the eggs, particualy and big blue boxy looking one. "See that deep blue egg over there? That's the coolest one out of the whole clutch."

Eltanin crosses his arms over the back of the seat in front of him, resting his chin on it and watching the sand again. "I don't know if I'm being that good. All I know is it'll last a whole sevenday." He lets out another big sigh, perking at her last comment. "Oh, the tall one with white on top? It has a nice…shape, yes. But surely the glossy black one does attract the look too." He straightens and waves a hand as if dismissing his frustration. "Ah well, I hope to be assigned here for good when I come back so I would have the chance and honor to witness that magnificent spectacle that is a Hatching…"
