Healer's Helpers

Xanadu Weyr - Rustic Treetop Cafe
Perched on the cliff overlooking Xanadu's beach is a gnarled and massive skybroom tree. The bark and outer layers are sturdy enough to support the thriving, brushy top, but the interior, which is hollow, contains a spiral staircase that leads to a cafe built on a high platform amongst the branches. With a panoramic view of lake, sky, Weyr and the mountains beyond, the treetop eatery offers both sheltered seating just inside the trunk and tables on the wide deck that encircles the old tree.
The cafe's decor is comfortable and rustic, but closer inspection shows the smallest embellishments to be artfully combined into one detailed masterpiece. The wood of the doors, floor and walls of the trunk have been stained a dark mahogany that lends the space a sense of intimacy. Tables in various sizes have been carved to mimic driftwood, the chairs and benches padded with oiled sailcloth cushions to provide weather-proof comfort. Each table has an aged brass lantern filled with shells and agates gathered from Xanadu's shores, the sparkling natural mosaics holding tapered candles upright in their embrace. Lamps hang from the ceiling on silver poles, the thick frosted glass carved into intricate pastel shells or swirling white-capped waves. At night the colored glass softens the glowlight to enhance the ambience.
During the day, the retractable doors allow leaf-spattered sunlight to fill both the outer deck and the smaller interior with green and gold light, as well as allowing pleasant breezes to cool the interior. On clear nights, farviewers perch on the elaborately carved railing are free for use to enhance the gorgeous view of the stars over the Caspian Lake, the Sea of Azov beyond and the rock formations of the Weyr.

You know what's a great thing to do when you're recovering from injuries? Go walking up the stairs, that's what! …okay, so, it kind of actually is? Because it re-builds muscle and all those good things like that.. but it's also annoying, which is why D'lei has decided that if he's gonna do it, he's going to do it right up to this here cafe - and while he's there, he's going to get a drink! Which is right where he is now, sitting out on the balcony with a drink in hand as he looks out over the sparkle of light on the mid-morning sea.

Nailii is making her way up the steps humming a faint tune to herself as she goes. She is carrying with her a few boks and a stack of papers in the process. Thers is a slight pause as she nearly goes about losing papers as a bit of a breeze flutters by. "Oh fudder…" Is grumbled out before she is able to catch the papers and keep from tripping over some poor server in the process. "Sorry!"

Seems to be a busy time of day for the Cafe? Rinian hears some humming up ahead of her somewhere on the stairs, being not long behind Nailii. Strangly enough, she is also carrying some papers…in a binder…ok books. She is carrying some books and in search of a good spot to look them over, and to get something for her tummy at the same time. She stops just in time to not bump into the not-quite-tripping person in front of her. "Oh, pardon me."

Those darn breezes. Fresh air. What did it ever do for us? D'lei turns at the sound, looking back, and makes a shift as if to get up to help… but it looks like the situation is under control! Not that everyone is sure of that, because a little blue firelizard pops into existence and chirp-cheeps at Nailii before he flies to perch on top of those papers as she re-gathers them. See? Dusk is so helpful. Such a good paperweight! Though… he peeks back over the brownrider's shoulder to Rinian, with an inquisitive chirp. Does she need help too?

Nailii lets out a faint breath with a set of papers in her grasp, and it seems Dusk is SOOOO helpful. The dragonhealer looks amused and smirks at him. "Really?" Though she doesn't really mind the 'help'. As for another voice she ohs while stepping out of the way when able. "Sorry about that.." There is a bit of amusement at the other's books. "Seems we both came here to get some work done huh?"

Rinian smiles up at Nailli. "It seemed a good choice." Her gaze drops to the little chirping one, but without the faintest idea what he might be chirping at. So for lack of anything else, she holds her hand out to him as one might to a canine, to sniff he wants to. "I was supposed to help in the infirmary today, but apparently my skills in that are are lacking."

Chitterchrrr! That's right, Dusk is super-helpful. He rubs his cheek to Nailii's, rather like a feline might, then scrambles up onto her shoulder so that he can peek to Rinian and investigate her fingers before butting his head in against them. Pet him! He's so helpful, he should be rewarded.

Nailii can't help but smile to Dusk. "Your going to make Robin rather jealous if you keep this up." This said while she gives Dusk those cheek rubbings and then down across his chin as well. Her bright gaze drifts back to Rinian as she looks curious to what is said. "Oh really? Well I'm sorry to hear that. For people I suppose?" She questions with a curious tone and then looks a bit amused. "I'm a dragonhealer." Makes total sense when she explains it like that right?

Rinian obliges the little blue firelizard, hopefully petting his little head in the way he likes. "For people? Oh yes. At least..that's what I assume. I haven't looked at all the titles of the books they shoved at me. I just told them I had some basic training at my hall..you know. Grab whatever cloth is handy and wrap it around what you cut and get back to work..they didn't like that answer."

Dusk chrrrs approvingly as he recieves those pets from both of them, wiggling in place as he does. Good humans! D'lei's making his way across the cafe now, drink in hand (and the other one empty, gasp!) and he smiles and lifts it in a wave as he sees the two.

Nailii nods to Rinian and smiles a bit. "Sorry, I should have explained it more than just 'people'." She peeks over curiously towards Rinian's books and bits pondering if she knows anything. "Well I know a bit about healing people too, you'd be surprised how it can help sometimes with dragons." A glance is sent over towards more movement and she waves back towards D'lei. "Hey there, how's the leg feeling?"

Rinian stops petting the little blue, as having her hand up by the shoulder of a complete stranger might not be entirely polite. She asks, "So..if I get confused would it be ok if I asked you?" She looks over as Naillii greets D'lei, having missed his crossing the room until then. A quick glance down and an arched brow for the lack of cane. She waits for his answer to the question she doesn't need to ask now.

"…especially when the riders refuse to go see the human-healers until their dragon's better?" D'lei suggests as he overhears that part of it, and grins. Not that he'd know anything about that! Speaking of… "I'm nearly to the point where I'm willing to consider the stairs back down again!" Yay, progress! Dusk makes a sad warble as the pettings from Rinian stops with the petting, with a hopeful nudge of his head toward her. Moar pls?

Nailii doesn't seem to pay attention over such things like personal bubble space. As for the question from Rinian a smile is seen and she nods. "Sure, I don't see why not. If I can't help you I know a few people that might be able to. Or who knows maybe I can get you more interested in healing dragons." Hearing D'lei she grins while glancing back towards the steps. "Well if not I'm sure we could find a dragon to help you down another way."

Rinian wars with herself…invade Nailii's space or ignore the cute little blue. But as Nailii didn't complain the first time, she reaches out to gently pet Dusk again. "A Dragonhealer?" It's obvious such a thought had never occured to her..ever. But then she'd never thought about Healing either. But this candidate thing has her stretching out into all kinds of areas. "How is Risali doing, D'lei?"

Dusk chirrrs happily, shifting and leaning into those pets, and D'lei laughs. "They could make me a ladder," he says. "Stack them all up, from gold to green, and I'll just walk on down." Because clearly, why do anything more practical with the dragons? "But no, the healers say it's good exercise, so here I am." He gives those stairs a glance, then back to the others to ignore the stairs a bit longer. "She's doing well," he says of Risali. "Already to the point where she overdoes it and hates everything." A grin.

"Well dragons need tending to as well." Nailii offers with an amused tone before waving her hand slightly. "Though as I was a dragonhealer before impressing so I might be a bit biased on the matter." This said with an amused tone. "How do you like the candidate bit by the way?" At the question over Risali she looks back to D'lei and chuckles a touch. "Yeah? Sounds about what Risali might do. I'm glad your both doing better? Also I think there would be an easier way to get down with a dragon then stacking them like ladder."

Rinian isn't sure the little blue would agree, but she could pet him and not invade someone's personal space if he'd just switch shoulders. As she's not had much interaction with the little creatures before, she's rather enjoing this. She holds out her arm in an inviting way, wondering if he'd even understand the offer. She nods to D'lei, "I'm glad to hear it." And to the Dragonhealer she smiles, "It is actually quite interesting. I've been given a lot to think about already, and a view into other areas I'd never even thought of before. I think overall it will be a very good experience."

"I suppoooose," D'lei says to Nailii and her practical, and grins. Dusk tilts his head at Rinian's invitation, then… goes where the pettings are! He hops over, and scrambles up to her shoulder with a prick of claws that are still sharp even though he's careful, rubbing in at her cheek with his. Chrrchrr! D'lei hehs at his firelizard. "Well, now you're in for it," he says to Rinian. "Just shoo him off when you want to get something else done besides pet him."

Nailii doesn't have a problem with Dusk getting the attention, not like /she/ is being petted after all! "I'll have to agree, it was rather interesting and plenty to learn and do and so forth." She shuffles her papers and tucks them into a book so nothing else happens to them now that Dusk has taken over Rinian's shoulder. "Congrads on being a candidate by the way. Hopefully the parents won't chase you off." Which parents? WHO knows!

Rinian is so pleased at having him on her shoulder she doesn't mind the prickles, and she absolutely loves it when he bunts her cheek. She's more than happy to keep petting him for the moment. "Thank you." And then she wonders, "Which parents?" Her parents? The dragon parents? The rider dragon parents? Parents in general? So many possiblities. She glances over to D'lei. "This little one is yours? He's very sweet."

Dusk is pleased. He has obtained a new source of pettings! He chrrs and wriggles like a happy feline, completely forgetful now of his prior job as a paperweight. Firelizard brains: very tiny. D'lei grins, and nods to Rinian. "Yep. That's Dusk. He's my little helper." He reaches over to give the blue a pet, which the firelizard receives with a chrr, then drains his glass and gives those stairs another glance. "…I probably should be going back, though. It's like duties don't wait for a full recovery!" How rude of them.

"Someone's parents." Nailii offers with a vague answer, it could be anyone's at this rate right? As for Dusk she wiggles her fingers over at him. "Found a new friend huh?" She'll grin and bit and soon chuckle. As for D'lei fleeing to flee ti seems a wave is sent after him. "Have fun with the duties and paperwork and the like." Because everyone likes duties right?

Rinian arches a brow at D'lei. "Weren't you just chiding Risali for doing too much?" She leaves it at that though. She carefully walks over to a table to have a seat, so as not to either dislodge her little blue guest, or have him feel the need to cling more with those talons. She settles the books on the table in front of her and casts a glance to Nailii that is a silent invitation to one of the other seats there.

D'lei laughs, and shakes his head to Rinian. "Nope. I was explaining how she's doing too much and regretting it. Completely different!" A grin, and then he nods to Nailii. "Oh, always. Time to see who's on my desk today." That's probably him mis-speaking because he means 'what'. Right? …. in any case, he heads down the stairs, without a cane but with a hand on the rail, while Dusk… well, he will remain for pettings! Until they stop, or he gets distracted by something else. Whichever comes first!
