Xanadu Weyr - Beach
The unerring range of subdued white rises and falls in a multitude of sandy dunes, creating an endless amount of tiny valleys constantly demolished and rebuilt by the frequent arrival or departure of a dragon. Smoothing out as it slopes gently to the edge of the deep blue water, the sand darkens and a shell here and there stands out for children to collect. The beach itself is set along a low cliff - the height lessoning as one heads eastwards, blocking a portion of the beach from direct access.
The wide wide stretch of water opens up to the east, the far distant shore way beyond the horizon and the beach curves ever so slowly round to east and west, distant arms of land embracing the wind-ruffled Caspian Lake. East leads up to the mouth of the Rubicon River, where the protecting cliff is merely an arms length higher then the sand, and beyond that, a winding road leading out of Xanadu's territory. Westwards, the beach narrows as the cliff swings out, leaving a path wide enough for dragons in single file before cutting in to the sheltered cove designated the Weyrling Beach. However, cut in the cliff face to the north are a variety of rough, wide staircases, providing access to the clearing and to the meadow.
The sun is just beginning to set over Xanadu weyr, the light fading later and later now, with winter coming to a close. Janelle looks fresh, wide awake, as she strolls down the beach with bare toes dragging thorugh the sand.
Hyrlon isn't too far behind Janelle, still yawning from the early 'morning'. Unlike her, he's dressed a little more warmly, at least he's wearing shoes.
Cenlia is on the beach, the gardener girl in her usual working clothes, loose pants and shirt and an oversized jacket borrowed from the stores. She's currently flopped down in the sand some distance from the water, a basket sitting beside her from which she's pulling meatrolls and something wrapped in parchment. Down by the waves, her five firelizards are playing - two blues, a brown, a bronze, and a gold. At the sight of people, little bronze Charmer crooons and swoops over, landing not far from Janelle and Hyrlon and posing cutely for attention. Crooon. Croooon. Cenlia looks up as the flit goes by, blinking and making a face at him, muttring an, "Oy!" and then giving the two people a grin and a wave in greeting, the girl calling a friendly, "Hey," and getting up to retrieve the firelizard.
Janelle grins back towards Hyrlon, catching him from the corner of her eye. "Hey, you…" Then as Cenlia's pets steal her attention, she's looking back and finding Cen, to whom she offers a quiet wave.
Hyrlon grins back at Janelle, "Hey you…" then Cen catches his eye as well and he moves towards her, "Mo- Evenin'." He nods, "Don't believe we've met."
Charmer continues to croon happily, squirming a bit as Cenlia picks him up. "'M Cenlia," the gardener girl nods at the two, and the gives Charmer a look. But then her firelizards are squawking and making off with the basket of meatrolls. There's an, "Oy!" from the girl as she gives chase, disappearing off toward the meadow.
Janelle dips her head just enough for it to be seen, offering a "Nice to meee…" the words trail off, however, as Cen heads after her fair. "..eet her."
Hyrlon chuckles, watching Cen's fair fly off into the sunset with her food, "And /that/'s why I only have the three…" He pulls a blanket out from under his arm and spreads it on the sand, "Want to rest a little before our shifts start?"
Janelle oh's softly, as the blanket is discovered, and she grins, "Were you following me with that, all the way back from the dens?" She'll sit, however, the moment the blanket is offered.
Hyrlon slides to a seat next to her, "Of course. Ma says it's good luck to share a blanket… though I don't know if this is what she meant."
Janelle lifts a brow briefly, and grins, "She does, does she?" She stretches her legs out, bare toes wiggling the sand free from between them. To support her weight, she stretches her hands out behind her, leaning on them.
Hyrlon lays back on the blanket, chuckling softly and supporting his head with his hands, "Yup, she does."
Janelle oh's briefly, nodding. She looks out over the water, then towards the setting sun, with a brief sigh of relaxation.
Hyrlon grins, watching her relax, "I do miss the sun sometimes… you?"
Janelle nods a little, "I do. When it's hot, I get up early, just to be sure I get some. It's so comforting, and warm.."
Hyrlon nods as well and sighs, "I hope the dens don't get too hot in winter… they /say/ the stone's supposed to hold the cool more…"
Janelle nods a little, and grins. "I'm sure there's ways to cool it down, anyhow.." More heat means less clothing, right? …AT least, it could in private. Just don't ask her to live by that out here, on the beach, or anywhere else in public.
Hyrlon turns a little towards her, smiling big at her, "Wouldn't want to cool it down too much, though… gets uncomfortable… I actually dragged a heater in there this winter…"
"True," Janelle admits, "I couldn't be bothered with that.. I just grabbed a couple more blankets." …And periodically curled up on the floor with Janks.
Hyrlon chuckles, "Hysk was complaining about the cold, too… kept rubbing at his eyes like he couldn't see right… so I finally put a heater facing my bed so he knew where I was… couldn't face it towards him, after all.
Janelle mmms briefly, "Well, hopefully there's a while, before we have to worry about the cold again. And for the heat, there's always fans, right?" Or sleeping in the forrest, instead of the den..
Hyrlon nods, "Hopefully…" He mmmhmmms quietly, "or sleeping in the nude… never much had the opportunity in Crom."
Janelle sniffs a little, rolling over to prop her head up as she lays on her side. "Can't say that's really something I've tried before.." Then, this is the girl who doesn't feel comfortable in a bathing suit, on a public beach.
Hyrlon chuckles, "Well, it should help with too much warmth, right?" He shrugs a little, "Least I'd think it would…"
Janelle Shrugs a little, flushing at the cheek again, "True, I guess.."
Hyrlon reaches up with one hand to gently caress her cheek, then clears his throat, "Umm… you said you'd never kissed before… does that mean you've never… yanno?" It seems some of Morl's niavete has indeed continued on in his older brother…
Janelle leans her head gently into the touch, though her eyes flicker elsewhere, *anywhere* else, at the question. Breath escapes her, causing issues with speech, so instead she nods. A hard swallow follows, "No, I've never.."
Hyrlon smiles at her, "I'm glad to know that… me either… I don't… I just wanted to know if you'd be wanting to or be willing to wait awhile…"
With this topic of conversation, it appears that Janelle's turning the brightest shade of crimson she has, as of yet. "Oh, Shards, Hyr, nono nooo.. I'd much rather wait on that a while.." Then, as if she realizes how that could sounds, she blinks, and adds: "If you wouldn't mind..?"
Hyrlon smiles, blushing some himself, "I'd rather wait, too… at the /very/ least until after you've gotten your journeyman's knot. Wouldn't want to distract you from your goals."
Janelle looks, with that, like a baloon deflating as the tension she hadn't even noticed seems to completely slip out of her. "By the egg, you have no idea how glad I am to hear you say that."
Hyrlon chuckles, "You have no idea how glad I was to hear you say it, Janelle." He strokes her cheek gently and sighs, "You're a beautiful, amazing woman and the last thing I want is to ruin your career or our relationship by going too far too fast."
Janelle Grins then, "Is there such a thing, as too good to be true? Because if so, maybe I should pinch myself.."
Hyrlon chuckles, "Perhaps, but I'm not going to complain about it."
Janelle folds her arms on the blanket, resting her head on them as she remains on her side. "Thanks ofr being there with me, when I talked to Satoris.."
Hyrlon smiles, looking perhaps a little surprised, "Of course! I said I would and I was. And I'd gladly speak for you, too. You're a great handler and you know your stuff. There's no reason for you to be stuck at apprentice any longer."
"Well," Janelle offers, "I think I sopke enough fo rmyself. ..But it's hard to tell, do you think that the head Miner was actually impressed with my project?"
Hyrlon chuckles softly, "I don't think he's impressed with much of anything but his son, but I think he thought it was good enough, which is what matters. After all, once you complete it he still has to tell the masters it was good enough to warrant advancement."
Janelle nods a little, "True enough, I guess." She sighs softly, taking the moment to just relax.
Hyrlon smiles soflty, "Given any thought to what hobby we should take up?"
Janelle laughs briefly, "Actually, no.. I was too busy trying to get my mind to stop going over the classes, and sleep for a bit."
Hyrlon chuckles, "I can understand that… I didn't sleep very well, either… Hysk keeps throwing hey on me."
Janelle wrinkles her brow with a grin, "Why would he do that to you?"
Hyrlon chuckles softly, "No clue… I think he's jealous of you."
Janelle blinks a little, "Jealous of me?" she frowns, "TEll me I have a wher to suck up to now, so he can leave you be.." Apparantly, however, she's more teasing.
Hyrlon chuckles, "It's all I can think of. Hope he's not sick or anything… also, he likes wherry better than bovine." He follows that up with a wink.
Janelle aahs briefly, laughing a little, "Maybe he' sjust jealous that you're spending time with me, when he and Jansk can't play."
Hyrlon chuckles, "Most likely. Wouldn't think they'd notice, being asleep and all."
Janelle laughs softly, "I know Jansk senses my feelings, I imagine it'd be us as much in her sleep."
Hyrlon nods slowly, "It's definitely possible… I think Hysk's starting to think I like you more than him…"
Janelle rolls onto her back, looking up towards the slowly darkening sky, where the first star of the night is visible. "We'll have to rectify that, y'know… I don't ever want the whers to feel that they're not number one to us."
Hyrlon nods, shifting a little to lay against her side, "Yeah… last thing we want is them going wild or starting to disobey us…"
Janelle nods a little, pillowing her head with her hands, leaving a crooked elbow for Hyrlon, should he want it as a pillow. "I think that'd just about devastate me, righ tabout now.. And not just because of this project, either." But, certainly, that would completely fall appart, if she ever lost Jansk.
Hyrlon nods, "Me too, Hysk's my gorgeous blobby boy. I can't imagine being without him…"
Janelle grins softly, "Our children." she agrees. ..Or at least, as close as one can come to a child.
Hyrlon nods, "Exactly. Dunno what I'd do if something happened to Hysk or Jansk."
Janelle sighs softly, still a sound of contentment. "It's so strange, just how much has changed since they hatched, y'know?" She turns to look from sky to fellow miner, "I don't know.. if it weren't for her, would I have ever had the nerves to get to know you?"
Hyrlon shrugs, sighing a tad as well, "Hard to say. I thought you were cute the first time I met you, you know. That day in the garden…"
The garden.. The garden.. It takes a few minutes thought, before Janelle grins breifly, "My sister was bugging me so terribly much, about her relationship.."
Hyrlon nods, "And I told you you didn't need one to be a good miner."
Janelle nods, "So you did tell me that.. An dlook where that one little comment led me."
Hyrlon chuckles softly, "As much as I still stand by it, I'm not going to complain about the outcome." He leans up a little and kisses her gently, "Not gonna complain at all."
