If I Only Had a Bed

Xanadu Weyr - Weyrsecond and Jr Weyrwomans' Office

Office or study? Perhaps this room is a little of both. It is spacious and airy with the big windows opposite the door looking northwards, a perfect aspect when one is this far south. Those windows are framed by dark forest green drapes, soft ribbons and braid in dark, rich gold sewn along the edges to give them a sumptuous look. The back wall is covered by shelves that hold a variety of things - mostly records and reference material as well as writing tools and sheets of hide and paper. Tapestries, including several lovely scenes of the terrain around Xanadu Weyr, cover the rest of the wall-space while a soft, plain off-white rug hides the stone floor. A small, low table sits by the door and usually has some refreshment set out on it.

Several broad desks are arranged around the room, each one set so someone sitting at it doesn't look directly at any of the others. Small screens can be set up on each desk to give a little more privacy and each has one comfortable chair that goes with it. So far, it looks like one desk has a permanent claimant. There are also several other chairs, which can be used by visitors.

It's late. Dinner has been over for several hours, the offices have emptied for the day, and the hallway is dark. Through the open office doorway soft light spills, carving a path through the shadowed corridor. The desks are empty, paperwork neatly stacked and finished. Over on the couch, curled at one end is Thea, dressed for the workday, hair coiled neatly. Apparently never left for dinner or came back maybe. She's leaning against one of the arms of the couch with her head buried in her arms.

D'had did leave for dinner, but not catching a certain junior weyrwoman has him headed back to the office for a just in case check. "Lose somethin'?" he asks leaning against the doorframe, having sent a look about the room only to spot what he was looking for.

Thea lifts her head when the voice speaks. She blinks a few times, puzzled. "No? Do I… look like I'm looking for something." She's so easily confused these days it seems, but curled up on a couch… maybe she looks like she lost some sleep? "How was dinner?"

D'had chuckles, pushing off the wall to stride into the room and settle beside her. "Was decent," he replies, "You didn't go?" he makes it sound more like curiosity than concern. "But nah, looks like you're tired."

Thea turns, shifting around to face him as he sits beside her on the couch. "No, I didn't go. Wasn't hungry." She scoots closer to him, meeting his eyes, "Not tired, no. All I've been doing is sleeping. I needed some quiet time to think." And then she just watches him.

D'had nods, he'll give her that with no questions. He stretches an arm around her shoulders as she moves closer, turning a hint of a smile to her. "I can let ya be if ya wanted ta be alone," he offers.

Thea snuggles in under his arm, shaking her head, "No don't go. I've finished thinking." She tilts her head, watching his face closely, "How are you doing, really Donn? With all this…" She gestures to her head, "And don't try to spare me any stress. I'm fine." Her two favorite words.

"Doin' fine," D'had replies with a nod, ducking to press a light kiss to her cheek as she snuggles in. "You've been doin' better an' all." So why wouldn't he be doing alright with it.

"That's the truth?" Thea presses, unusual for her to do, but she's leaning in trying to read his eyes and it's not easy. "I was thinking about what we talked about the other day. Memory." She smiles as he kisses her cheek, then sobers almost immediately. "You said the other day you remember me." Her eyes drop and she winces, "What if… what if someday you forgot?"

"Promise," D'had replies, giving her shoulders a quick squeeze. He falls quiet again as she continues and his lips turn in a wry expression. "Ain't gonna forget you babe. Not ever."

Thea watches him for another moment, unsure. "I hope not." She rests her head on his shoulder, "The healer mentioned that they have found herbs to dissolve blood clots now. So if… " She shrugs, "You ever wanted to have them check you out… or if I ever seem like I'm not… right, there's that, okay?" She reaches across to where his other arm rests and absently traces her finger along it towards his hand. "I was also thinking about… your offer."

"Not ever," D'had repeats giving her another light squeeze of assurance. As for those herbs, "I'll keep that in mind," which might be far less assuring given that she knows the trouble now. A slight smirk of a smile is given as she traces his fingers, "And..?"

Thea lifts her head, cool green meets dark brown as she meets his eyes, "And I would love to if you'll have me." So serious, she is! But is that? A bit of a twinkle and her lips twitch, "If you can suffer having me around to be your very own personal weyrwoman bedwarmer."

D'had is well.. shocked to silence. Not that him being quiet is all that unusual, but its the look of surprise on his face that might be the giveaway. "Course I will, and I can think of alot worse things ta suffer from than havin' ta spend night with you."

Thea is trying to keep from snickering, but the look of surprise on his face has her laughter dying in her throat. She tilts her head, "Why are ya so surprised?" Her fingers go still, her attention on his answer, if he's going to give her one.

"Was startin' ta think ya just weren't gonna answer," D'had replies, "But apparently ya were just takin' your sweet time," he teases lightly before kissing her forehead. "But maybe we can spend tonight at your place? I like that thing you have, what was it called again.. bed?" said with an amused grin and a wink. Yes, that was teasing.

Thea smiles at the teasing, "Oh, you like? Could just let you have that and then you wouldn't need me at all." She smirks, "After being called Sugar and Cupcake, taking my sweet time's nothing but appropriate, don'tcha think?" Then she grows serious once again, "I wanted to be very sure before I decided, Donn."

D'had chuckles. "Well if I don't have the bed what do I need with a bedwarmer, hmm?" He grins, giving a bit of a nod and a continued laugh for sweet time followed by a more serious nod for the rest. "Well I'm glad you're sure."

"I see." Thea drawls. So who just outsmarted who here? She just shakes her head, "Glad." She pretends to pout, "You're just glad?" But she's thinking of something else, "You're welcome to move my bed to your place, but… is there room enough or should you have a room built for it?" Hmm, changes in otherwords. "You're sure you want me?"

"Were you looking for somethin' else?" D'had inquires. Something more than glad? Blink. "Well.. suppose we should add some space if we're gonna do that. Or stay with you but…" he rolls his eyes at something unheard. "Sie wants to know if we do that if you'll add a pool."

"Ecstatic?" quips Thea smirking, "Forget it, I'm messing with ya." She considers this. "A pool. We could make Seryth's clearing into one perhaps, yes." She lifts a finger to tap at her chin, "Have to uproot that huge tree first, mind you." She gives him a little blink, "How good are you at digging up tree roots?" Then she's shaking her head, "I think an addition to your place would be wiser." There's a regretful sigh. "Poor Siebith. He'll just have to be satisfied with the whole lake instead."

"I think he'll be happy enough with that," he chuckles, lips quirking into that smile of his. "But what'd ya say about gettin' outta the office, hmm?" D'had questions, turning a glance over the empty desks. "Know a much more comfortable place to snuggle." Wink.

Thea answers that with the only way a wise woman knows how to. She gives him a slow smile, leans towards him, wraps her arms around his neck and brushes her lips across his. "Well then, what are you waiting for? Take me there, please." Should anyone see the Weyrsecond carting her cross-Weyr? They can always say it was the cupcakes…
