Xanadu Weyr - Caverns
A massive cavern in it's own right, this one has been skillfully adapted for human habitation. The high ceilings have been painted a light, soft ivory, as are the walls where numerous tapestries hang to provide brilliant color and insulation from the stone. The floor has been left in its natural state, pale pink granite speckled through with glittering mica and dark flecks of basalt, leveled carefully but kept sufficiently rough to avoid slips.
The cavern itself is loosely divided into areas, each one set up to be suitable for some segment of the Weyr's population. The most frequently occupied area, however, is the one near the Kitchens where tables of varying sizes provide a place to sit down and eat or chat and a buffet of consumables is almost always kept stocked. Its plain that on most days, this area wouldn't accommodate anywhere near the full population of the Weyr and equally plain that on such occasions when a formal meal is laid out, tables are appropriated from all the other areas.
A big fireplace is set into the wall near the Kitchens as well, several comfortable chairs nearby providing haunts for elderly residents or riders who like a good view of all that happens. Rugs cover the floor in strategic spots, all of them abstract or geometric in design and most in the softly neutral colors of undyed wool.

Exits lead off in all directions, a big archway the largest and that leading outside. Shallow stairs to the west lead to the offices and administration area while tunnels to the east lead to the infirmary, kitchen and resident's quarters. Southwards, a sloping tunnel leads down to the hot springs.

The pelting sleet the Weyr awoke to has dwindled to leave an overcast and downright dreary atmosphere by midday. Avoiding the chance of twsting her ankle again, Kera takes advantage of the infirmary tunnel so she doesn't have to chance the icey footing. With Minimur perched lazily on the girl's shoulder, she joins the end of the line, nodding and murmuring some greetings to a few friendly enough faces. Step by step the line progresses, she gets her plate, then fills it, and a bowl for her lizard as well. Eyeing her filled hands, Kera sighs and will come back for something to drink as she turns to find a table.

Idrissa is settled off on a chair near the fire, a place she normally haunts when she is in the cavern. A yawn escapes her, hand lifting so she can rub across her eyes a few times. Seems she is a bit tired at the moment for one reason or another. Work does that after a while!

Kera strolls past a few tables along the outer edge and spots a familar face near one of the fires. Heading that way, she takes in Idrissa's tired demeanor and offers a little smile "G'day Idrissa." Gesturing to a particular warm looking spot on the hearth, "Mind if I join ya?" Hoping she won't begrudge little Mini a place to eat, Kera lifts his bowl to settle it and the brown on the mantle where a couple other lizards are already stationed, thus freeing a hand to go get something to drink.

Idrissa blinks at the voice and glances over, a soft smile and nods is soon sen. "Hello Kera, sure go on and pull of a seat." This said before she casts a glance after the lizard that fluters up to the mantle. "Got sort of cold today huh?"

Kera nods when there is no objection and sets her plate down. "Be right back, need a mug." Giving Minimur a gentle scratch before she steps away. It's not long before she's returning and toeing over a chair closer to the hearth, her plate is settled on her lap and she begins picking at it. Letting out an amused sigh she nods agreeably "I'll be glad when the weather turns warm again." Munching on a few tubor wedges her gaze flicks over the rider "Has the weather caused you more or less deliveries?" She scratches a cheek briefly and goes on "Just wondering since I know I've had time to write plenty more letters and such, being stuck inside alot lately."

Idrissa chuckles a bit and shrugs. "Depends on what is needing to be delivered mostly." She tilts her head. "Though I'd be ok to stick inside for a while giving how the weather has been lately. Even if I had to write letters I'd stay in and be happy about it this time."

Kera grins over her mug, "True, then there are all these letters that need to be delivered." A slight shrug lifts her shoulders before she sets her mug back and down and continues chatting between bites. "So it got me to wonderin if that made more work for you." Shifting the chair around a bit, getting out of the walkway and closer to the warmth.

Idrissa ahs softly and looks amused while she peers at the other. "Well that's alright. Where about might the letters need to be sent too?" This questioned with a curious tone.

Kera spears a couple of bites from her plate and shrugs, unsure why Idrissa is amused, but going with it. "Where ever people need them to go. For myself, The cothold near Rubicon. If I don't write at least every other sevenday, I never hear the end of it from my mom." A little grin is given "You know how moms are." Glancing around the cavern a moment, nodding to an aunty who limps by, she peers back to Idrissa. "So how about yourself? How ya been? Stayin away from these crazy beasts in the stables?"
Huh? (Type "help" for help.)

Idrissa pauses slightly at the bit on mothers. "I'll take your word for it." She doesn't know how moms are as she never had a very good relationship with her own mother. "I've been alright. There not crazy. Well not all of them." She pauses and shrugs a moment. "Been working with the wing mostly."

Kera chuckles "Just most of them are crazy then huh?" An amused wink to show she's only teasing, mostly, while continuing to nibble from her plate. "Well, you've been all about outside the Weyr though right? With your duties and all. Anything interesting going on at Halls or other places?" A curious brow is lifted towards the transport rider.

Idrissa pauses and shrugs a moment. "I suppoe.." She ponders at the thought while lifting a hand to scratch at her cheek a few times. "Sort of depends on the mother." A slight nod is see at that while she glances towards the other. "I've been around that's for certain." She ponders. "Well Eastern's senior gold rose a while back. They should have a new clutch soon."

Kera considers that with a nod "Bet everyone round there is excited bout that." She's referring to mention of Eastern's coming clutch of coarse. Finishing most of her meal, she sets the plate aside and takes her mug back up and looks the rider over thoughtfully. "Are you feelin alright Idrissa? You seem a bit out of it, like you could use more than one restday off duty."

"Sure, big time for the weyr and so forth." Idrissa pauses and glances towards the other pondering that. "I'm fine, save for being tired but really that just comes with the job." She's never been big on explaining what could be bothering her. Leaving people to mostly guess.

Kera watches the woman a moment longer before nodding and giving a gentle lift and fall of shoulders "Maybe try and see if ya can manage a few restdays in a row. Sometimes the apprentice's switch duties if something comes up. Maybe you could work out something with a couple of your wingmates?" Kera glances up to chuckle at Minimur when the little brown starts scraping his bowl across the mantle, causing her to reach up and take the empty bowl down before it hits the floor.

Idrissa peers back at the other and nods a moment. "It is always possible." She stands up, mug in hand. "I need to get going, try and get some sleep while I have the time." A faint smile is seen. "I'll see you around Kera, have a good night? Any letters you want me to take just let me know."

Kera nods and grins that her idea might actually be considered. Wiggling her fingers to the retreating rider "I will, don't have one ready quite yet though. Have a good evening Idrissa."
