Xanadu Weyr-Barracks
Xanadu's barracks are a massive, L-shaped amalgamation of caverns and construction, squared on one end, rough-hewn and oblong on the other, with weyrlings and candidates separated from one another by a large communal area. Wood and stone floors meet in a clever spiral pattern that interlaces and spreads, creating harmony in a space meant for completion of chores, classes, and storage of both dragon supplies and bedding for humans. A singular wooden door leads into an office for the weyrlingstaff.
Windows stretch the length of the candidate barracks, a long, low-ceilinged room that opens off the training grounds. One wall is slightly curved, set against the outer wall of the hatching arena, with a locked door closing off a tunnel that leads onto the sands. Cots are set in two rows along the length of the room, each with its own small press at the foot for personal belongings. It's always warm here when there are eggs on the sands; candidates seldom need more than a light blanket, but a diminutive hearth is available for the warming of beverages or the occasional firelizard-surprise.
The weyrling half of the barracks have been burrowed back into stone. Close and dark when shutters to the outside world are drawn, the ample paths between dragon couches have been lit with dim strips of light. Smaller couches are obviously intended for the very young weyrlings, while the largest ones at the back are for those close to graduation. A second small hearth abuts a massive cavern opening that slopes gently down to the training grounds outside
Despite the storm easing up juuuuust as the last impression was made last night; today brings more rain. It's early morning and outside the storm is back with full thunder and lightening crashing every so often. None of this is noticed, however, by Xanadu's newest bronzeriding weyrling. Zachariah…oops, we mean Za'ariah (only two letters taken off that long name, REALLY?), is sleeping fitfully on his cot. Tossing and turning he's not sleeping the best. Daejienth too is slumbering but also not so very well. The tip of his tail twitches restlessly.
"How many times do I have to tell you: You have your own couch. Stay off of me!" V'orn really is trying to keep his voice down, but having to shove a green head— green! Really?!— off of him repeatedly throughout the night is really getting on his last nerve, "Kyasinth, move." There's a quiet whine from the clouded green and she just shoves her nose harder against her rider, « But I want to sleep with you. » Bloody red fingerpaint smears into the shape of one of the meat barrels, « And I'm hungry, V'orn! » The greenling might be trying and failing to keep his voice down, but the green in question has no issue with waking everyone else. The blond weyrling groans and sits up, swinging his legs over the side of his cot and hissing, "Fine. Just move." And he thought Clio was bad as a hatchling…
Daejienth rouses first as the hungriness of the green weyrling is catching. « Food?! » his whirling eyes pick up speed and color as his head swings around to nudge his own rider. Zach twists over to his other side with one hand waving in protest. "Shush it Velorn…" he mutters as Velor…V'orn's voice eventually penetrates his slumber. Suddenly his eyes pop open and…. "Daeji!" he utters as he sits up quickly and rams his head right into the bottom of the bronze head that was lurking right over his cot. "Ouch..sorry sorry…are you okay?"
That demand that he 'shush it' has V'orn grimacing and mumbling something that might be an apology before shooting Kyasinth a chastizing look, "Don't go waking everyone up." He huffs, scowling, and shoves at the green's head, "You gotta move if I'm gonna get you fed, you know." His voice drops into a low mutter, "Sharding nuisance." And then there's is an accident happening to the poor bronzeling pair and he winces in sympathy, looking over at them as he pushes himself to his feet. Soothing lavender reaches out to check the… injured pair over, « Owie. That looked like it hurt. » She does finally get out of her chosen person's way enough that he can walk over to where there's still food prepared for the newest Xanadu dragons, though she keeps some part of her pressed against his leg the entire time, « Maybe we should let Daejienth have first pick? He got hurt, after all… » There's a sigh and Vel pinches the bridge of his nose for a moment, eyes closed, "Kya… Are you hungry or not? I'm sure Zach-" He grimaces and shoots the younger weyrling a glance, "Za'araih can take care of him."
You say, “Ohmygoshi'msosorry!" Zach's hastily spoken apologetic words are followed by a large hug around the bronzed head. There's no evident injury so either Zach's head isn't as hard as it looks or Daeji's head is harder than it looks. Because…FOOD is urgently needed now that both human and dragon pair are awake. Za'ariah's stomach rumbles audibly though if it's for his own hunger or for Daeji's is anyone's guess. « It did not hurt young lady. » Daejienth assures the green. Za'ariah is already off his cot and headed for the food with the bronze close behind. "Oh thank faranath the food is all cut up." FOR NOW! "Morning V'orn…aint it a beautiful morning?" an uncharacteristic smile is plastered upon the bronzling face. He hasn't even noticed V'orn calling poor Kya a nuisance.”
Once it's clear that there's no acutal harm done to either Za'araih or his bronze, V'orn shoves at Kyasinth's head to get her attention, "Stop flirting and get over here." As though he's one to talk about flirting… The green wiggles, maw opening in a silent draconic laugh as she ducks behind her person, bubbles of pink bursting through her voice, « He called me 'young lady'. » Threads of yellow join the pink with a rain of teddy bears, « He thinks I'm a lady! » Instead of responding, the tall weyrling— and isn't it strange to be a weyrling now— just drops a chunk of meat in her gaping jaw, "Shut up and eat." There's a snort of surprise, the colors fading away for a moment before rushing back in a flood, « But I can eat and talk at the same time, V'orn! » And isn't that a wonderful revelation? Poor Vel… Zach's greeting gets a grunt and a huff, "Yeah… It's morning, alright." And his dragon's hide is still unmistakably green… SIGH…
Za'ariah just offers a big grin…that ends in a large yawn. Someone's still waking up. "But…lookitus! We both walked off the sands with lifemates. Isn't that just amazing?!" a nudge of a bronze head urges him to pop in another piece. "Chew." is said encouraging tones. "It's such a beautiful day." just then a clap of thunder booms directly overhead in a direct contrast to his observation. "She is very, very green." he feels inclined to point out. AS IF VEL DIDN'T KNOW! "Doesn't it feel…weird to have someone in your head with you?" this last is whispered as he leans in closer to Vel.
The boom outside makes V'orn jump a little and glare up at the cealing, "Yeah… Amazing." Kyasinth gets another narrow eyed look as she licks a little blood off of his hand when he hands her the next bite. He winces at the reminder that he ended up walking off the sands with a green of all things and sighs, "Yeah… she is." Poor Vel. He glances at the bronze and smirks half-heartedly, "Toldja you'd end up with bronze, though." The question gets a slight wrinkling of his nose and a nod, "Yeah, it kinda does… And she's just so…" loud, "colorful." As though to prove the point, a constant stream of rainbow bubbles burst into the air, ranging from soft pinks to neon green. Apparently, someone is happy this morning, even if someone is still in denial.
"I did…didn't I?" surprise and complete adoration simply drip from the lad's tone as he feeds another bloody piece of meat into the waiting maw. Za'ariah also gives a glance towards the colorful one. "Daeji…" a pause. "Daejienth doesn't like his short nickname." which is just TOO BAD. "He's not so loud. More…subtle but always….there." something he's got to get used to. "I know it's not been long but sometimes I can't tell his thoughts from my own." admits the young teen. Another bit of food is popped into the waiting maw with another admonishing to CHEW the food BEFORE the swallowing.
V'orn nods, managing to look at least a little smug, "You did." With the delivery of food being too slow, Kyasinth noses gently at her person's hip before throwing a mental pillow at his head, « I'm still hungry, V'orn. » And demanding. He sighs, shaking his head and popping another hunk of meat into her mouth, "Yeah… And she seems to always want to be touching me." For example: The reason he woke the other pair up a little while ago, "Like, it's not even just all wrapped around in my head, she's always got her chin on me, or her tail wrapped around me, or something."
Speaking of touching, Za'ariah reaches out to scritch the top of Daeji's head. « Oooh, yes…that's the spot. » his mental voice slips enough to project to every awake mind within the barracks. Which more and more are slowly waking up. Mischeviously, Za'ariah notes. "At least Lokialia didn't impress." there's one problem from candidacy he doesn't have to deal with. "Touching…well I guess we better get used it…" he trails off as his eyes unfocus briefly. "Itchy? No problem let's go get some oil if you're done eating." it seems the bronze is indeed done eating as he turns and lumbers with LITTLE TO NO GRACE at all. Thankfully he doesn't knock anything over (YET). Za'ariah hurries to follow.
V'orn snorts and nods, "Yeah. I'm glad to at least be rid of her." He rolls his eyes, "She wasn't even fun to tease!" Not like certain other people that could be named. He sighs, nodding again, "I guess so…" Not that he really has any issue with being touched, but… She's a GREEN! He chuckles softly and offers an absentminded wave, "Have fun~" With the oiling. At least he's not going to have as much dragon as poor Zach to keep clean and oiled! The one good thing about Kya being green.
