Xanadu Weyr - Weyrsecond and Jr Weyrwomans' Office

Office or study? Perhaps this room is a little of both. It is spacious and airy with the big windows opposite the door looking northwards, a perfect aspect when one is this far south. Those windows are framed by dark forest green drapes, soft ribbons and braid in dark, rich gold sewn along the edges to give them a sumptuous look. The back wall is covered by shelves that hold a variety of things - mostly records and reference material as well as writing tools and sheets of hide and paper. Tapestries, including several lovely scenes of the terrain around Xanadu Weyr, cover the rest of the wall-space while a soft, plain off-white rug hides the stone floor. A small, low table sits by the door and usually has some refreshment set out on it.

Several broad desks are arranged around the room, each one set so someone sitting at it doesn't look directly at any of the others. Small screens can be set up on each desk to give a little more privacy and each has one comfortable chair that goes with it. So far, it looks like one desk has a permanent claimant. There are also several other chairs, which can be used by visitors.

Bright and early, the day at Xanadu has started before sunrise, but the Weyrstaff are just heading into the offices. The junior's are just beginning to come in, at least some of them maybe? Might be? Depending on what their particular tasks are today, anyway. For now, though, the office is empty. The different desks in here each bear some personal effects indicating someone uses it regularly, save one more sturdy and less feminine than the others. It is cleared of everything, polished and waiting for a new occupant. Nothing mars the rich wood finish save a solitary plate with a cupcake on it.

D'had is, well… lets just say he's not exactly thrilled with being inside just now. But inside he is, striding through the door to the office, shoving the door open a bit harder than would have actually been required.

Thea heads down the hallway behind D'had, a sheaf of folders in one arm. She's dressed for the office today in a skirt and blouse, dark hair twisted up. She pauses behind D'had, giving the door a bit of a blink, then slips into the office behind him. "Morning." She says it quietly as she heads over to her desk, drops the folders onto it and heads over to the files on the far side of the room.

D'had just stands in the open doorway, having stepped just inside the room, and just stares. Until Thea's greeting catches him that is. "… Morning…" he replies, still trying to figure out just what he's doing here now.

Thea opens the file drawer, then flickers a wary look at the new Weyrsecond, then back to the drawer she's searching through, pulls out the document, shuts the drawer. On her way back to her desk, she points to the empty one, "You get the big desk." A cautious smile to encourage him - he seems to need it.

"…" There's nothing at first while D'had looks towards the desk she's pointed out. "Right," he replies in that 'I knew that' sort of tone before he heads towards it to test the chair. "You look nice..?"

Thea slides into her chair, that document is placed on top of the files she had there, her eyes remain fixed on it as one hand reaches for a pen. Another peek at the man, "Ah, thanks." Her tone is carefully neutral, but there is a hint of a smile at the corners of her mouth. She flips the first file open and without looking up says, "I see someone has left you a welcome present." Not a bit of a laugh in the tone, it's as if she said 'it's a nice day.'

"…" Thea seems to have caught D'had off guard at that as he looks and finally happens to see that cupcake there. "Sure it ain't yours?" he asks not bothering to tear his eyes away from the treat.

"Nope. Maybe Niva left it for you?" She ducks her head to study that document, checking it with the one in her folder. "Ah!" She finds what she needs and scribbles something on it, signs it and rises, passing D'had back to the file drawer. She's looking innocent about it. Totally.

D'had just stares at the sweet a second longer. "Right," he notes, moving a hand to sweep it off to the side and out of the way before he props his feet up on the desk, leaning back in the chair in the process.

Thea re-files the paper, heads back to her desk, the file is put in her out box,the next flipped open, the paper scanned and the pen scratches briefly as she writes. She's focusing on the stuff, if only to get it done. It's some time before she's done with that one, as it goes in her 'out' pile, she glances over D'had's way, tries not to smile. "Well, will it do or would you rather have one of the girly desks?" Her attention returns to the next file.

D'had chuckles, "Ain't much of a desk man really," he replies, "But think it should do just fine. Location doesn't hurt either," he adds with a wink in her direction. Ah yes, Donn should be happy with all the other occupants of the office being women.

"Surprised you didn't take the knot sooner then," Thea retorts dryly, ignoring the wink. Or not seeing it since she's looking at her work and in the process of opening that next file. She points to a box beside his desk. "From D'son. Wing stuff."

"…" D'had says nothing while he looks over towards the indicated box. "We had that conversation already," he notes of having taking the knot sooner or later. "Ain't it a little early to be doing work already?"

Thea shrugs, flashing D'had another look, and a bored, "Did we?" About the conversation. "Glad you're feeling better about it then." She flips the file closed, places it with the other, leans back in her chair and just stares at him. "It is after breakfast," she so helpfully points that out as she eyes that door. Where are the others?

"And still no one else is here," D'had takes that moment to point out just that. "Besides papers ain't going anywhere that quick," he adds, letting feet slide down from the desk top and the chair fall back into place on all for legs.

"That's right, they don't. They pile up instead." Another glance at the door. Hmm. Thea shuffles the files restlessly, scanning the labels, then flickers another glance at him. "It's not much fun pulling an all-nighter just to catch up, trust me." His chair thumps and she's trying not to grin. "You'll be breaking that one of these days."

D'had chuckles, "Yeah, well don't have to rush through things my first official day on the job either, do I? Wouldn't hurt for you to take a break now and then either. The chair? Well it's got to get broken in sooner or later. Just testing it today."

Thea shakes her head, "D'son would be the one to ask about that." She's already opening her next folder, ticking down the list, drawing a line through one of the items with a mutter, "So -not- authorizing that!" She pauses midway down her list to look up at him, "Huh? Yeah, break, sure. One of these days."

"I'll get you on one, one of these days," D'had chuckles, sending a wink Thea's way when she looks up. "Can't work everyday sweets. Not good for ya." He stands then, picking up that cupcake that was nearly forgotten about, only to leave it set on the corner of Thea's desk on his way out. "Gonna grab some fresh klah."

"You'll what? Oh, no you won't either!" Thea would look alarmed if she wasn't amused. She rolls her eyes at the cupcake, "Keep it! Better yet give it to Niva." A handflip dismisses the thing. Likely he's gonna find one on his desk every day until he's sick of them, who knows? Someone around here has a very odd sense of humor. Not Thea, though. Way too serious for that sort of thing.
