Lunch at Sable Sands

Ista Weyr - Southern Bowl
Compared to that of other weyrs, Ista's bowl is small, and incomplete - northwards, one wall was blown clear away several millennia ago, leaving the view clear towards the plateau, the jungles, and the ocean beyond. Somewhat elliptical, the breadth of the bowl seems to run northwest to southeast, the bustling epicenter of the weyr being here, towards the southwest. Several large entrances have been dug into the sidess - northeast are the hatching grounds and south the living caverns, these being the two largest caverns in the weyr. To the east, a smaller entrance leads in to the ground weyrs - the ledges of these line the bowl wall above, often filled with dragons of gold or bronze; westward is yet another ledge, but with a staircase built into the wall, allowing access to the Sable Sands. The infirmary is located nearby, towards the southwest.

Kera managed to get another ride to visit N'talya, so finds herself wandering from the landing area. Looking around as she goes, the visiting apprentice shrugs and makes her across the bowl.

Alamith having gotten the message from the rider that brough Kera over and letting her rider know has N'talya coming out and into the bowl to great her friend, "Kera!" she calls out smiling brightly, "I didn't expect you to visit again so soon.

Kera hears her name and turns to spot the green Weyrling. Smiling she waves. "Hi N'talya." Glancing around she briefly "I just thought I'ld come see if ya were staying out of trouble."

N'talya giggles and sys, "And help me find some if I was?" she asks questioningly? but smiles, "It is good to see you. As for staying out of trouble, it isn't hard, they are working us so much."

Kera huffs good-naturedly to the young rider. "Hey! That's insinuating I go looking for trouble. Not like that at all." Pausing a bit she shrugs "Stuff just happens…So what kind of things do they have you busy doing?"

N'talya says softly, "Well they started having us bag firestone…I think they are going to have us starting to learn to flame any day now.." she smiles brightly.

Kera nods, though a brow lifts at the mention of flaming soon. "Well, just burn down what you are supposed to. The last thing anyone needs is more fire accidents." Seems she's had enough of fire accidents. "Your dragon must be getting big then huh?"

N'talya smiels and nods, "She is getting huge, almost twenty two and a half meters long." she smiles, "And we are flying together already. Can you believe it has been that long since I left Xanadu?"

Kera brow lifts at how big the dragon is getting and nods. "Wow. Flying together already?" she gets a curious frown and shakes her head "I must be losing track of time again." Shrugging it offshe grins. "You'll be coming to visit Xanadu soon enough."

N'talya smiles and says, "hopefully before to much longer, We should be learning to between…" she shivers a bit at the concept and says, "Now that scares me somewhat….even though I am excited I will get to visit you all."

Kera nods and glances around the bowl briefly before smiling back to N'talya. "I'm sure you'll do fine." Considering the rider a few seconds "And you'll be able to visit the friend you spoke to me about too. The one who transferred from Xanadu?"

N'talya nods and says softly, "i should be able to visit him…i am not sure if he would want me around though.." she sighs a bit at the though, "But you never know…

Kera frowns a bit to the greenrider "If he's your friend, why wouldn't he be glad to see ya?" The apprentice seems a bit confused, but that seems to be her normal lately.

N'talya says softly, "Well he hasn't responded to any of the letter I sent him… Maybe he is just busy." she shakes her head, "Its ok though, I still have you and everyone at Xanadu to visit.

Kera , not wanting to pry, just shrugs and peers around "So, where's your dragonmate? Somewhere catching a bit of sun?" The girl chuckles a bit since she's noticed lots of dragon do that.

N'talya nods and smiles, "She is on her way here not, she was sunning in the training fields." as she speaks Alamith soars over head and circles in for a landing nearby, she warbles a soft greeting to Kera as she approaches.

Kera ahs softly and glances at the warbling above. Chuckling back to N'talya "Is she excited about the coming flaming lessons?" Her attention slips back to the approaching green, giving a quick dip of her head in greeting. "Hello again Alamith."

N'talya giggles and says, "she is more excited about meeting you again. She is very social. and thinks I should be more so. It makes her happy when I am spending time with poeple.."

Kera blinks in surprise and cants her head to the young rider "Meeting me? Why?" She does nod though "Well, she's right, ya not gonna make new friends if you don't step up and say hi." After a moment she adds. "Then again, there is something to be said for a little quiet time." Something apprentices never get.

N'talya giggles and nods, "I know." at the looks Kera gets when she says quiet time N'talya says, "ARe you ok Kera? You getting enough rest over there?"

Kera considers the question. "I'm fine. I did waste part of my last restday when I could have been sleeping,.." she trails off and shrugs it off "..but I won't make that mistake again." She snorts and rolls her eyes at some thought before peering back to N'talya and her dragonmate. "But I didn't come to talk of unpleasant things. You need to tell me what going on round here." She grins at that.

N'talya smiles ands ays, "Well as you can see Ala here is growing like a weed. We are flying all over the weyr now, giving people trips back and forth for practice. They have us in a bunch of diffrent classes for things like dipolmacy and the like, in case we are called on for that…"

Kera grins and can't help but chuckle. "Now that's a class that I am glad I do not have to take." She shutters at the thought before peering to the young green as a thought occurs to her "Does she like the dolphin pods round here?"

N'talya smiles and nods, "She goes out and plays with them in the water. Dolphins and Dragons seem to get along great. I am glad, I was a bit afraid she wouldn't at first. I hope Echo likes here…if he agrees to still be my partner and come over here.

Kera smiles with an easygoing nod. "Good that she seems to like making friends." Not knowing much about dragons, she simply admires the green before peering back to N'talya. "Is Echo already on his way here?" She pauses and tilts her head "Or do the dragons manage to transport them in cargo containers?"

N'talya looks a bit worries about that, "I don't know, I really don't." she bites her lip, "I may not know until I can get back to Xanadu to find out, or if he shows up here."

Kera lifts a brow when she notices N'talya's worrying and offers a little smile "Speak to the local dolphineers. Or send your Xanadu Journeyman a letter. You've a firelizard, so find out where you stand."

N'talya sighs and nods, "I will, I have just been so busy I haven't though about it." Alamith leans in and nuzzles the top of N'talya's head. THe young rider smiles up to her lifemate and says, "I am alright really I am Ala.."

Kera didn't come to depress the greenrider, and glances around the bowl as a noise nearby draws her attention to a landing dragon. After watching a few seconds, she looks back to N'talya. "So, what were you doiing before I arrived?" She smiles trying to lighten the mood.

N'talya giggles and loosk down at herself, noticing that she is alittle dusty, "I was bagging Firestone. WE have to have it all ready before the lesson coming up… I was pretty much done for the day though…

Kera nods and chuckles at the little poof of dust. "When is the lesson? Is it today, or do ya have freetime for the rest of the day?" The apprentice rubs her stomach briefly "We could get a bite to eat." Seems someone forgot to eat lunch earlier.

N'talya smiles, "I am free for now, unless the weyrling masters call me for something." hering Kera's stomach rumble she smiles, "Come on." reaching for her friends hand and pulling her towards the Sable Sands..

Kera grins and lets herself be pulled Sable Sands, whatever that is. "Is that some cafe. Like the Treetop cafe at home?"Her gaze cast about as they walk.

Ista Weyr - Sable Sands Patio
This is the patio for the Sable Sands, what would in a regular weyr be a low dragon's ledge. The stone's surface here, however, has been filled and leveled, leaving a smooth floor upon which are set a number of small, round wooden tables and chairs, all varnished to a light goldeny hue. Here and there, small candles in dark orange glass holders or fabric-covered glows provide a sort of mood lighting. The seating is arranged to take advantage of the view, looking out over the broad plateau to the beach and ocean beyond, a perfect frame for sunsets on a clear evening. Occasionally, music drifts from further inside, where additional seating and the bar itself is located. Servers wander and weave through the areas, taking orders while weyrfolk and visitors alike anjoy the tropical atmosphere and exotic foods the island has to offer. The entrance to the adjoining tunnels has been walled off, and a wide set of double doors have been built into it, leading deeper into the weyr, while a set of carved steps offer ready access to the bowl.

N'talya smiles as she leads Kera onto the patio and nods, "it is alot like that." she smiels, "Would you perfer to eat out her on the patio or head inside though?"

Kera gestures to one of the tables "Patio is fine." She can't help but smirk "At least we didn't have to climb allllll those steps up and around the tree trunk to get here."

N'talya giggles and nods, "That is true. That got these great fruity drinks here too. Non with out the booze in it for us youngin or weyrlings.."

Kera hesitates a moment at the mention of a fruity drink and is already shaking her head til N'talya brings up the non ones. Giving a nod "Sure, I'll try that. And whatever sandwich of the day they got." Taking one of the seats, she looks out at the view appreciatively.

N'talya glances out at what Kera is looking out and smies, "Beautiful isn't it?" before trying to wave down one of the waitress'

Kera nods agreeably. "Very differant than home." Leaning back and stretching her feet out a bit as a waitress appraoches the table. Kera waits for the greenrider to order first.

As the waitress arrives at the table N'talya smile and says, "Could I get the whitefish, and um… THe passion fruit fizz to drink…the virgin one….." she giggles a bit.

Kera glances around the patio, admiring the floral colors where she sees them. Grinning she nods eagerly "I'll take one of those fuzzy drinks too. And your sandwich of the day."

N'talya smiles and sits back, "so tell me what has been going on back to Xanadu…Gossip! Whos dating who these days." she giggles a bit.

Kera drums her finger haphazardly on the table as she ponders the question and shrugs "I guess everyone is still dating whoever they were dating when ya left. Soriana's Luroath woke everyone up one morning."

N'talya says, "she did? Why did she do that?" looking intrested for news of her old home."

Kera blushes a bit at the question and blinks to the greenrider. "You're a dragonrider now.. you should know…" She colors a bit and smirks "It was rather embarassing, all those old aunties and uncles acting…out of the ordinary."

N'talya eyes widen a bit and says, "Oh that…" she blushes and glances back toward the entrance to the patio, "i am really not looking forward to that coming up…"

Kera sighs a bit "I made a note on all the calendars I could find. Should be a population surge right about the new turn. I've been trying to keep track of flights to keep things running smoothly in the infirmary when the surges happen. Sorta mention to the new Weyrhealer when we might be getting more patients than nornal"

N'talya nods and says, "Probaly a good idea, you never know what might come up." she fidgits a bit, "I just hope people I care about are arround when the time comes for Alamith…"

Kera considers that as the waitress returns with there drinks and meals. After tasting her drink and eyeing the sandwich hungrily. "Maybe that's why your dragonmate likes it when ya meet new people? So you'll have lots of people you care about."

N'talya blushes and nods, "Maybe but even then, there are alot of folks I like, not sure I would want to sleep with them though….Not that I will have alot of choice in it."

Kera winces and studies her sandwich a moment "I certainly don't envy that. Glad I'm just an apprentice and not one of the Weyrfolk." Taking up her sandwich, she takes a bite, then another shortly after so that her stomach will hurry and settle.

N'talya nods and says softly, "Just be careful around the riders when there is a flight…Things can get…wierd…" she blushes and says, "And you are not just an apprentice."

Kera nods over her sandwich "Oh I know that's the truth. I spent the whole day in the infirmary the day of Soriana's flight. Wasn't about to step out there." She laughs and takes a huge bite then tilts a curious frown to her friend. "That's exactly what I am. I've not been promoted to Sr. Apprentice yet. But maybe soon."

N'talya giggles and says, "that is your position, but that isn't all of who you are Kera." she smiles, "You are a pretty young woman, just take care of yourself.."

Kera understand where N'talya is going and shrugs "I do. There's no one I'm interested in like that so tis not a problem. Well, there was, but then he starts talking and well.." She lets it trail off since she is working on her sandwich.

N'talya giggles and says, "Oh? Who?" watching her freind closely looking for any clues in the the other girls expression.

Kera frowns a little as it seems she'll have to fess up. "Alright alright. I did think Mur'dah was cute. Well, do I guess." Huge bite is taken of her sandwich and she starts to chew thoughtfully.

N'talya giggles and says, 'He would be if he didn't think so much of himself…' she giggles and continues, "you two would make a cute couple though.

Kera rolls her eyes at that. "Doubtful. We've nothing in common. Granted, he's nice to look at. But then he has to go and open his mouth. I've given up on the idea we'll be any type of friend. And frankly, I'm done tryin."

N'talya nods and says, "There are other fish in the see." she smiles and says, "I am sure you will find yourself a great boyfriend or girlfriend, what ever you are looking for.

Kera works to chew her bite before talking about "Oh, I like guys well enough, just not the ones that turn into giant asses." Kera grins over the last bite of her sandwich, then washes it down with her fuzzy drink.

N'talya nods and says, "I know what you mean, Guys are ok, at least the sweet ones are. Finding them is the problem."

Kera washes down her sandwich a bit and gives a half hearted nod. "Maybe, but I've got better things to worry about right now than boys." Wincing a bit and sighs "Like getting back to Xanadu and getting back tot he paper I gotta write."

N'talya nods and says, "I know what you mean, I got Ala to focus on now." at the mention of a paper N'talya stand and offers her friend a hug, "You should be getting back then. It was great seeing you."

Kera rises to her feet with a sigh and nods "Yea, I'm going. Just feel a bit overstuffed after that meal." She grins and gives her friend a hug "You take care of yourself and your dragon now." Wiggling her fingers towards the greenrider "I'll try to visit again soon. Byeee." And then she's trotting off to find her ride.
