Get Lost

Survival Camp - Campfire Square
During the day this area is a small clearing that sits just big enough to land four dragons in it, though by night it becomes an inferno where a fire is built up that licks its stray bits of lights to the ground just before the barracks nearby. The two barracks sit across from each other in strong contrast, the leader barracks being a comfortable modern barracks that looks clean and kept in good eminence while the follower barracks has a sharp destitute about it, looking that the ivy and decay is a day away from making the whole thing collapse.

Keziah is dressed to the nines. Leathers and vest and gear. She's ready for what shes considers a leisurely stroll through the park. Well, maybe not quite that leisurly. Still she's packed and loaded. She blows her whistle to assemble the candi's. "All right! It's time to go hiking" AKA getting lost. "Everyone make sure you have your gear packed and knives handy. You'll need them."

M'nol smirks, pulling his head out of a pack and tying it shut, "Shards, Kez, I thought I was going to get to wake 'em up this time." The broad lad shoulders his pack easily and adjusts the set of his knife sheath against his hip, "How many d'you think we'll lose this time? Farry keeps sayin' there might be felines about again." Whether he says this to tease or as fact is hard to tell, his tone's settled right there between the two ranges.

Lan is stifling a yawn as he shuffles his feet side to side, pack already on his back with the necessary things that they were allowed to haul. Skully cap on, another bandana tied to his arm, trousers on instead of shorts, good hearty boots tied; he was ready for the adventure. Though he looked bored by the prospect of it, eyes half closed and unable to fight off the string of yawns that plague him.

Kiley is already wide awake, having dealt with all of her morning routines since coming to the camp. Stan has been safely hidden while they make preparations to head out, making sure that he stays where no one will try to eat him before she gathers her pack with all her things inside. It is the call from Keziah that brings her forward, lingering in silence as her hands tuck into the pockets of her pants as she focuses on the two weyrlingmasters. She gives a quick salute before her hands tuck back into her pocket and she waits. Landers is given a brief look and then a smile before her gaze quickly flickers back towards those in charge.

Keziah blinks at M'nol "You were? Umm oops?" she says with a grin and then holds out the whistle "You wanna try callin them again?" she asks and then there is Landers "Hey sleepy head." she says with a grin and smiles at Kiley "Good ta see you all prepared. "So, you all excited to be dropped off in the wilds where wherries roam." She does eye M'nol a little "Don't be tellin me you transported felines up here to the North. Honestly. As if we don't have enough of 'em in the South." she grumps. Though there is an evil glare for even suggesting such a thing.

M'nol smirks, "No worries, Kez." He cups his hands around his mouth and puts his longs to work in a carrying bellow of "Fall in, troops!" That echoes back a couple of times before falling silent and brings the stragglers into line nicely. He looks each candidate over before glancing at Keziah, "If there are any here, I didn't bring 'em. I think Farry thinks anything that's got spots is a feline." The brown snorts from where he's curled up in the sun. Preposterous, certainly.

Lan gives a tilt of his head bob, though certainly isn't falling into line. He's more or less lingering in the cluster of candidates going along on this trip. There's a bit of a nod for Kiley since he sees her greet him, smiling faintly to her before his features are wracked by another long yawn.

Kiley smiles at Keziah, "ma'am." She greets with a slight nod of her head, not saying much else as she considers M'nol as he calls out for the rest of the candidates. Hands remain in her pockets with her eyes considering the weyrlingmasters with a slight furrow of her brows. A brief glance is sent up towards the sky in consideration before flickering back down as she waits for further instruction.:smiles at Keziah, ma'am. Keziah eyes the brown a moment and then shakes her head a little. "All right ya guys lets get you loaded up. Hmms Suppose we'll put you two together." she notes as she looks at Landers and Kiley. "Safety in numbers and all." she notes "Course, we'll be keepin an eye on ya all and such, but you're pretty much on your own. If you get hungry, ya can forage or trap a wherry or any number of things." she notes "Of course, you all need to help each other and such. Do either of you have a firelizard?" she asks and as some raise their hands to points "Anything serious happens, send them to us. If there's no questions. Mount up!!

M'nol smirks, a silent command bringing the brown forward to cart off a pair as well, "But don't do it just 'cause you're tired or hungry. The point of this is to learn more about survival, not how to run whining to the nearest dragon, alright?"

Kiley nods to Keziah as she puts her into a group with Landers, not saying much more before the question about the firelizard. "No, ma'am. I don't have one." A slight shrug is given and she considers Landers for a moment in questioning before they are given the call to mount up. She heads over to the green with another glance towards Landers, waiting for him to join them before making to mount up.

Lan side glances towards Kiley, a little bit of a grin flashing there as he rolls his shoulders about in preparation of the journey. The whole 'mounting' up business though makes him groan, head falling a little with dread on his expression. A hand anticipates the churning of his stomach, resting on it as he mutters, "I be having one. Firelizard…" he notes with a dry tone, anxiously glancing toward the dragons.

Keziah climbs easily up onto Alosynth and settles onto her green. "Come one guys. It's easy, a walk in the gardens." A glance at LAnders "And no going into space." she notes quietly "Just a brief skip between and you'll be in the middle of nowhere. Oh, and if ya gotta pee, do it now or you'll be havin to find a bush."

Away from Alosynth, M'nol quirks a brow as he climbs up Faraeth's back with his own pair of candidates, "You mean we're not leaving them up there? I'd really hoped…" He's clearly in a teasing mood today, since that grin could split his face. "I'll take these two to point two, Kezi. See you when you're done depositing your lot."

Kiley smiles at Landers, "you'll be okay." She insists softly as she moves to mount up on the green. The fact that Landers has a figrelizard brings a smile to her lips and then she waits.

Lan doesn't seem to have trouble climbing up, though by the look on his face, the hard lined scowl, he isn't happy about it. This from a candidate who was going to stand for the hatching! He didn't even remotely seem pleased that he was back on a dragon. "Yah.. ya say that now. Jus dun be surprised iffin I heave…" a slight warning as he closes his eyes.

Keziah eyes Lan a little and then smiles as she pats him on the leg "Well, it won't be the first time you've heaved to on me." she notes with a grin "All, buckle up tight folks, we'll be heading up." she says with a smile as she makes sure they are all buckled in.

Wilderness - Rolling Grasslands

Beneath a blanket of short, thick grasses and small, colorful flowers, the land rises and falls in gentle crests and shallow valleys. The occasional burrow appears dug into the side of the hillocks, and the obvious markings of unseen animals are everywhere.

Instead of a short jaunt between, things take a little longer, or maybe not. Hard to tell time between sometimes, but Alosynth soon or not so soon appears above a wide expanse of grass, the warmth a vast change from the stark nothing cold of between "Well now, wasn't that exciting?" Perhaps Keziah kept them there longer on purpose? One may never know.

Kiley is a little tense when they finally come from between, shivering visibly and then giving the greenrider an odd little look for her comments. Nothing is said, perhaps from the shock of it all.

As they come out of between, Landers takes a breath, expelling gulps of white mist that whip away from him as soon as the winds latch onto them upon re-entry. He looks petrified. He's stone cold still. His eyes are wide and his mouth is creased with an odd twist to it. Even as the cold from between starts to melt off, as it were, the man is shivering visibly; it could be the young man realized how close they came to their last breath, the last seconds of their life, the end of it. Or maybe the between alone scared him senseless. Either way, he was shuddering and cursing to himself, curses that would make even the most vile of sailors blush. Realizing his mantra of depraved words, the man's jaw clacks together loudly, anger showing in his eyes. Knuckles had become white during the transport, the leather buckles he was holding onto cutting into the palm of his hands for how tightly he was grasping on. At least he was behind the women, so they wouldn't see how badly he handled this ride.

Keziah blinks a little at the slew of words coming out of Landers mouth. "Wow. That's a colorful vocabulary you have there. Sorry 'bout that." Took a wrong turn at Albuqurque or the Pernese like. She helps them unbuckle and then slips off of Alo who rumbles softly. "Come on now. Days a wastin and you've got a ways to go." she remarks as she pulls out a compass for the pair. She hmms as she looks the pair over. "Well you're gonna wanna head off in that general direction." She notes as she points towards the forest. "Remember though, if you're in too much trouble, send the firelizard fer a lift back." Course maybe after the long trip between, that will be the farthest thought on their minds.

Kiley blinks at the swears that comes from Landers, tensing just a bit more but not glancing back at him quite yet. No, she waits until they unbuckle and dismount before she even turns to consider him. A look of concern crosses her face and she looks to Keziah to take the compass and points off towards the forest. "Okay.. Thank you, ma'am." She quickly turns back to Landers with that frown etching across her brows again. "There's a spot over here, Landers.. If you need it." There's a point in a direction that is partially obscured by a larger patch of grass. "I'll wait here." She promises, waiting for the other to make a decision should his stomach need relief.

Lan is more than happy enough to leave the green when he's able to. The worse of it, he did look as if he was going to get sick. His face had taken on a sheen of sweat and he did look tense, as if conflicted with trying to battle down the urge. Once down on the ground, he looks apologetically at Keziah. There was only so much restraint that he had with his mouth and a shrug of apology was the best he could do to take his words back. It didn't take Kiley pointing out a location for him to be looking for one, deciding to take the opportunity to spit up anything that had become an irritant. Dry heaving by the looks of it, once he's done, he stands for a time waiting for the last of his urges to pass by. "Ok…" he murmurs, pivoting back with a sigh, "Be done with this. Let us go."

Keziah watches Lan with some concern, maybe that wasn't such a nice thing to do. A mix of conflicting emotions runs across her face and then she coughs a bit. "Well, than, yes. Best to be off then." she says. A bit cold and harsh of her? Maybe. "Umm, yeah. Well, we'll be keeping a watch and all. Dragons are long sited and such, but its um somethin' ya all have ta do on yer own." she looks over at Alosynth a moment and then nods "Umm yes, we'll leave ya too it then." she notes and turns to scramble back up onto Alosynth. There's another glance Landers way as if she's going to say something and then she looks at Kiley instead "Don't be losin' the compass now. You'll be heading in a rather northward and westward fashion." Yeah, that's good. Time to go and all.

Kiley watches Landers move over, but not exactly watching as he heave. The look of concern is still deep set in her brows, waiting until he gives the okay for her to look fully at him and offering a slight smile. "When you're ready." She nods to the compass in her hand before looking over towards Keziah again. There's a curious lift of her brows that lasts for only a moment before she nods. "Right. I won't lose it, ma'am." She smiles politely then looks back down to the compass and then considering the greenrider's words, looking in the direction mentioned.

Lan looks irritated, his gaze shot at the ground though rather than any one thing in particular. It was as if the man was frustrated at his own reaction, considering the way he scuffs a boot and hitches up his pack sharply. He flashes his gaze up at Keziah at her words, lips thinning and brows furrowing. He offers her at least a salute, something respectful after all his fuss. There's a slight shake of his head though as he heads over to Kiley, letting her sort out the compass.

Kiley smiles at Landers as he joins her, looking back to the compass and letting out a soft hm. North and west.. She murmurs, glancing briefly up to Landers and then looking to Keziah as they take off. There's a blink and the woman shrugs, taking the path towards the northwest. Though her pace is slow, just in case Landers may need to slow.

Landers didn't even glance at the compass, letting Kiley do the bulk of the nagivation. There is only a quick reason given, "Ya be leadin us today Ki," he shifts his dawn blue gaze out toward the several directions they could take. He glances upward at the sky first however, eyes flickering down then to the ground for some reason. A twitch of his nose and he remarks, "Iffin we get lost, I be taking over. Be this bout yer confidence now…" he steps up toward her, sighing at the end, "Reckon after the hatching, I be taking Keziah out fer dinner or some such. She must be thinking I be a bastard…" The man checks over his shoulder to see the ascent of the dragonrider, fidgetting a little as he starts off a pace behind Kiley, rubbing his stomach a bit.

Kiley blinks at the nickname Landers gives, chuckling softly and smiling. "Okay. I'll try." However, the mention of getting lost has her blinking at him with wider eyes and cheeks coloring a shade. "I'll try not to get us lost." A soft insistence and she chews on her bottom lip as she stares at the compass a moment longer. "I don't think she does.. But, I guess it doesn't hurt.." She smiles over at him and continues on her path.

Wilderness - Ravine Trail

To either side of the path, sharply sloping grassy hills rise toward azure sky. Along the inhospitable landscape, an occasional swatch of bare, grey stone pokes from under the runners of grass, glaring back down, just daring someone to climb up the crumbling side. The path itself is littered with the stone, telling of how tretcherous such a climb would be. Only low shrubby trees even attempt to grow along the walls of the ravine, and even they are stunted and small. Nothing grows along the floor of the ravine, just stone crunches benieth your feet as you move on.

The former-sailor snatches a glance over his shoulder to ensure that their escort hadn't been in fact just trailing behind them. As they leave open trail behind them, he turns a squinted look upon Kiley. There aren't as many smiles from the man, likely due to the hand that continues to rub lazily circles over his stomach. Even so, not before too long there's a slosh of liquid and the smell of 'rum' in the air. The liquor goes down easy, the flask is offered to Kiley, "Ya want some? Tis needin it fer me stomach. Jus a bit. Tis narh hurt ta have a sip." Though he didn't look like he was going to force it down her throat either. If she didn't want any, the flask simply returns to the inner pocket of his vest, the pack on his shoulders heaved a bit, and the walk continued. Finally he murmurs, "I be havin confidence in ya. I showed ya how ta gauge where we be. Ya can do it."

Kiley is paying complete attention to the compass, occasionally looking up so that she doesn't smack into anything in her path. There's a pause at the sound of liquid and she peeks behind her to Landers with a curious tilt of her head, her nose wrinkling at the smell. "Oh.. No. No. I don't touch alcohol.." Though the look she gives him is one of concern before she looks forward again. "Are you okay? Let me know if you want to stop or anything, Lan.." Another peek at him is given and she smiles warmly before considering the compass once more. "You did, right.." There's another look around to consider their surroundings.

As with her answer, the man lodges his secret stash back into his vest, murmuring, "Donakan gave it ta me… gave me a big old cask full. He be leavin it behind when he be leavin fer Eastern. Seems a waste narh ta drink it." It wasn't as if he was drinking it to get drunk, at least not yet. At least it brings back some of his jovial mood. Eventually he acknowledges her question of his health, "Aye. Be ok in a while. Nar reason ta stop." Her warm smile is returned, stuffing a hand in his pocket while the other grabs onto a pack strap, waiting for her to make the decisions, while he always double checks the sky himself, as well as leave little toe scuffs incase she does get them lost.

"Ah.." Kiley nods and looks over towards him, "it would be, but, there's always later, too. Not that I mind or anything." She smiles again and continues onward, humming softly under her breath until he answers the question of his health. "Good. Great.." There's a careful peek over, just to be certain before that smile grows wider. "Promise that you'll let me know if we need to stop so we can get you taken care of." Forward they go once again, towards the northwest at a pace to help ease Landers' stomach should it still be causing him problems.

Keziah is sitting around the campfire, her eyes watching the wilderness and all as candidates stragle in from time to time. Most looking the worse for where. She smiles fondly as she remembers her time in finding her way back. Course those coming in so far have not been the pair she took out. Last she saw them they were doing well, but she worries. Maybe she did lose them. Thea will /not/ be happy with her.

The former-sailor and the former-computer crafter do straggle in after a time. While they have not been as quick as other groups, the pair have made it after nearly a full day out in the wilderness. Landers looks to have ended up carrying both of their packs, coming back to the camp with his shirt clinging to his chest and sweat beading down the bridge of his nose. The skully cap bandana is soaked as well, darkened to a deep blue instead of the crisp blue it was earlier. Scratches, bug bites, maybe a little dirt… oh yeah, it all shows up on the young man's form. The sailor heaves a sigh of relief when they find the pathway to the camp, looking back to see if Kiley is still keeping pace with him. They had been hiking up and down the terrain for hours beyond hours.

The sailor heaves a sigh of relief when they find the pathway to the camp, looking back to see if Kiley is still keeping pace with him. They had been hiking up and down the terrain for hours beyond hours.

Keziah glances up as a familiar pair as they come trudging in "Oh good you've made it, err. You guys did well." she says looking relieved and then trying to act nonchalant about. She really hopes she hadn't scared them too bad to begin with. "Come on over here you two. Ya doin' okay?" she asks as she looks them both over. "Sorry about that drop off and all. Feel bad about it."

Likely the reason why Landers had shown a lot more knicks than Kiley is that he broke trail after a time, or after some wrong turns got them into the thick of it. Either way, he is not phased so much by the knicks as the bug bites, as his hand itches one that is swelling on the top of his wrist. Kiley gets a good encouragement or two, "Almost thar. Can see the tents…" he nods for her mention of the dirt. A few times they had to climb up steep rockfaces or down muddy embankments, dirt wasn't even on the radar then. For Keziah's greeting, Landers regards her with a stern expression, muttering out of the corner of his mouth, "I do reckon we be narh dead. Be we ready ta stand fer the eggs now?" The bitterness slides onto the edge of his words, the man already shifting over toward the main camp, sliding off the packs and seeking out the water. "Kiley,… water?" a one word question as he already goes about filling two canteens. Methodically, he returns one to Kiley, while slurping down the other. Water chugs out from between his lips as he guzzles it down, pulling back to take a moment to regard Keziah again, a shrug there, blandly, "Tis yer job."

Kiley is pushed forward by the encouragement Landers gives, likely only going forward because of such. "Yay." Comes her soft reply for his sight of the tents and it does propel her forward a bit faster but never to the point where she takes over the lead. When Keziah comes into view she gives the greenrider a brief look, a slight nod, and then she shuffles along after Landers to the main camps. "Water." She agrees as he begins to fill the canteen. Hers is taken easily ans she begins to drink more slowly than Landers, but she certainly takes in as much. Silence lingers until most of it is gone before she, too, considers the greenrider. "'least you feel bad 'bout it.." Is mumbled softly into the canteen before she finishes off the rest of the water and sighs with relief. "I hope we're ready for the eggs. I never want to do that again. Ever. Getting dumped in the middle of nowhere and being told to find our way back… With only a compass." She wiggles said instrument at the greenrider. She didn't lose it!

Keziah winces a little at look from Landers. "Yeah, I reckon ya be ready ta stand." she murmurs softly. There's another wince at his words. Yeah, her job. A look at Kiley and the greenie is at a loss for words for a few brief moments. "Yeah, I reckon you be ready for eggs." Poor Kezi, she's too dang soft, she'll never make a good V'dim. Taking the compass she looks at it a second looks at the too candis and then turns away from them. She stops and then mutters "Ah shards." she turns and looks at the two of them, tries to look stern and proud of them and instead she just wilts a little from the looks of the two candies and then turns away and heads towards the fire. She stops. Looks at a pot she has sitting there. Two firelizard eggs. A look back. "It ain't much, but I'm sorry. They should hatch soon." she notes as she picks up the pot and then sets it in front of them and runs off towards the clearing and her dragon. In a couple of beats they're gone.

Lan takes the nearest seat, legs about ready to give out from the hours of labor it took to climb and walk from the distance they were left. He slumps his shoulders forward, hand grabbing off the sweat-soaked skully cap, hair just as drenched underneath it with short ends spiked. With the canteen emptied, he takes the time to heave and let his body wind down as he roosts on a log. He doesn't look up to Keziah until she returns with something about hatching and an apology in there. It's only when she leaves the pot with the eggs and runs off that Lan climbs to his feet, face scrunched into concern, "Keziah…" But then it's too late… There's only a hapless look tossed to Kiley for an instant and then an inward groan for his own failure with the greenrider, sitting back down hard with head left hanging, murmuring, "Greenriders…"

Kiley gives Keziah a curious look, brows lifting at the woman as she takes the compass. She stares a moment longer as she turns away, "I'm sorry." Comes out as a soft squeak from the computer crafter and cheeks color a dark shade of red, shame evident in the way her gaze drops to the ground. She settles down to sit in a seat, mumbling softly to herself for a moment. And then the pot is brought over and her brows lift, a questioning look is given tot he woman and she opens her mouth to say something but then the greenrider is gone. Guilt crosses her face and the woman sighs softly, "didn't mean to make her feel bad." She glances over to Landers and pouts slightly, "shells.. My whole body hurts and now I just feel awful.. I hope she's okay."

Landers lifts his chin to follow the path of the greenrider, turning his attention briefly on Kiley, while his hands roil and twist together, "Reckon when she be back, I be having a talk wit her. Tis my fault. I be snappy. I be right awful when I be exhausted…" He turns a look over toward Kiley, "Iffin we had a choice, I be thinkin that we should 'ave stayed over night out thar…" a slight scrub of his wet hair before he straightens, casting a suspicious eye toward the pot. He doesn't comment on them yet, deciding to instead grunt, "Be nice ta have hot springs now. Or sleep…" an eye cast over toward them.

Kiley looks to Landers and nods when he speaks, "we're both tired.. And exhausted and snappy.." The computer crafter sighs and looks to the pot with a curious tilt of her head. "Better train it not to eat Stan.." She mumbles softly after a moment. "It might've been nice to stay out and been in a hot spring. My body hurts, but then we'd still have to walk back.." Nothing more is said, at least for the moment until one of the eggs begins to shiver and shake as they do. It splits and reveals a bronze and there's a soft squeak from the computer crafter as she wiggles a bit of old jerky from her pack. Over it comes and then she looks to Landers with wide-eyes. "I'm sorry! I didn't.. Ah.." Too late now, she quiets and stares at the other egg.

Landers is looking aft while Kiley speaks, his eyes trained toward the beds and likely the food that is set out. It looked as if he was debating something. Instead, as he is about to reply to Kiley's words, the eggs shaking and rolling in the pot cause him to belatedly take note of them. When the bronze hatches, he blinks. There was a look of intrigue and while he fishes for something to offer, the bronze impress to Kiley. There's a quiet smile for her at her wide-eyed look when he withdraws some smoked fish, about to say something when the other egg starts shaking. The fish is ready and while a gold body rolls out of it, he merely shoves the meat at it, until it turns on him and gobbles all of what he has to offer. A quiet look returns to Kiley, "Yah were supposed ta get the girl one…" he says in a tone of denial, as if the gold firelizard wasn't mowing down on the remains of his snack.

Kiley is panicking, no ifs, ands, or buts about it as the bronze continues to eat away at her jerky. "He was hungry and I didn't really think.. And, I'm sorry." More squeaking and then the other egg begins to hatch. The gold is met with a soft gasp before she quickly averts her eyes, not stealing this one! She looks over after a moment and then focuses her gaze upon the man for his words. An owlish blink follows and she stares openly at him for a long moment before she finally speaks again. "Why's that?"

Lan fishes out for some more of the smoked fish he had packed in his bag, which had gone uneaten because it had warmed during the day and spoiled enough that a human shouldn't eat it. Lan gulps a little as the gold continues to eat like there was no tomorrow, blinking a few times, "Feel like she be strong in me head…She be different than me others…" Gnawing on his bottom lip, he turns an eye away from the newly impressed firelizard to Kiley, "Be narh gold dragons impress ta girls? Tis strange… but…" there's a time where he lingers and finally seems to accept it with a huffed sigh, "she be sexy enough ta keep round I guess, as far as firelizards be going…" A yawn overtakes him, "I be needing a nap once she be done feastin… Be too exhausted."

Kiley blinks at Landers' words and then looks to her little bronze with a confused tilt of her head as she examines him. To Landers she shakes her head, "it is different with firelizards." She smiles warmly, "sleep well" And then she rises to wander over towards the tents. While both may be tired, a lesson about Stan is at hand.
