Xanadu Weyr - Weyrleaders' Office

Office and retreat, this is the domain of Xanadu's Weyrleaders. The door is in the eastern wall, quite close to the southern end while the northern wall is dominated by big, expansive windows, framed by sumptuous deep blue drapes edged with a brilliant gold braid and tied back with a thick rope of braided gold and blue cord. In between, the eastern wall is covered floor to ceiling with shelves that house all sorts of records, manuals and supplies that are used on a day-to-day basis. The southern wall has the Weyrleader's desk — plain fellis wood, well polished and masculine. From behind his desk, the Weyrleader can look straight through the windows and out onto the main airspace of Xanadu. The western wall is where the Weyrwoman's desk resides: a lovely piece of furniture made of warm cherry wood. From her seat, a glance sideways gives her an equally good prospect out the window. There are a few other seats, some comfortably arranged around a low round table for small, informal meetings while there also some that can be drawn up to one of the desks.

On the south side of the door, the space is occupied by a low oblong table where refreshments can be set without someone needing to intrude. There is also an 'incoming' tray where incoming correspondence or similar items can be left.

Keziah stands outside the doorway for a few moments and just stares at it. She holds the scroll in front of her almost entreating the door to open on its own or something. Then with a shrug she gives a nice solid knock on it and then carefully opens the door to peer inside. Somehow it's just different meeting the Weyrwoman this way instead of just out in the caverns or the beach. "Hello? Niva?" she calls out.

With Kilaueth and Inimeth's eggs hard as can be and due to hatch certainly any day - if not any hour - Niva has been taking the few precious moments she has free to try and catch up on what's waiting for her in the office. And so, she's bustling around the room, freezing at the knock on the door. "Candidate.." She says slowly, eying her a bit cautiously.

Keziah coughs a little "Weyrwoman." she says again, changing it to be a little more formal. Then she seems to be a little at a loss for words for a moment and clears her throat "In the caverns, the storage caverns, well why we were lookin for robes, I found this fallen back behind some of the boxes." She holds the scroll out to the Weyrwoman "It seems pretty old. It's a map of a cavern and a bit of the surrounding area. It's arrows pointing out different places that aren't on the map and one of them seems to say Xanadu, but it's hard making out the words. And in the corner they marked storage on it. Thea said I should bring it to you."

Niva straightens a bit more as her eyes drop to the scroll in Keziah's arms, before she's stepping to her chair, settling in it and motioning for Keziah to talk D'son's, carefully spreading the map out on the table between them. A finger hovers over the surface as she stares at it, stunned into silence. "It *looks* old.." Niva agrees with a murmur, muttering to herself as she attempts to dicipher the markings.

Keziah settles herself in, her eyes going once more to the map. It's taken a lot of self control to not spend time just going over and over and over it again. Course, she was also afraid of screwing it up. "It does." she notes softly and then tilts her head a little "Think it's still full of things?" she ponders "Or is it likely empty or someone living in it? Do you think we could find it?" Okay, so the questions are all just toss out a bit and she realizes that and promptly closes her mouth.

"Try not to touch it. We might cause the ink to run." Niva comments, her own fingers delicately touching only the edges, careful to not force them too flat. "It could be any thing." Niva comments absently, turning her head this way and that to get a different look from a different direction. "We'd have to look, to see what is there."

Keziah gives a nod to the caution as she peers at the map. "It almost looks like it's a little south and west of us, could this area here, " Keziah points out a curving line and some faint squiggles." Could this be representing the Sea of Azov?" she asks and then smiles "Who all do you think could get to look? Rogawani is curious about it as well."

Niva turns her head again to peer at the squiggly line, hmming softly. And then, a slow nod, and she agrees. "Its the only place that would really.. make sense." She comments slowly, peering at it further. At the candidate's request, she lifts her gaze. "I'm not sending a group of candidates without a wing of riders. Particularly when one of them has already caught Kefai's attention." She says firmly.

Keziah is silent a moment and then tilts her head and asks quietly "Could ya send a wing of riders?" She then ducks her head a bit and hmms. She's really not one to want to mess with the creepy guy again. Well, not unless she could have him alone and she had her cross-bow, which is about as likely as her Impressing a bronze dragon. "Who will you send then?"

Niva glances over the map once more, before nodding slowly. "I'll have Galaxy do careful sweeps over the area, and we'll decide then, if there's anything of interest, who can go." Niva comments, and reaches to gently roll the map back up, shaking her head. "I'll get one of the Harpers to copy this, however. Perhaps *they* can figure out the writing."

Keziah gives a nod as she watches the map rolled up and then she gives herself a shake "I do hope things check out well." she murmurs her eyes shining with the idea of a forgotten cavern or something and then a frown. "I also hope that it's not crawling with those.. those…" she sighs a little "But then I almost hope Kefai could be there, I mean then we'd have found them again and could do something I guess. I dunno."

"I'm sure that Wingleader D'had will be careful to do a very thorough job." Niva says formally, shaking her head a little. "I would rather not have him that close to us. The thought of it is enough.." And she shivers, making a face. "We will see what there is to be found. Thank you, candidate.."

Keziah swallows a little and blushes "I hadn't meant to imply." she closes her mouth before she puts her foot in mouth. She rises up and gives a bow "Thank you for your time Weyrwoman." she murmurs and then high-tails it out for the door without actually running. But then she can't help herself and she pauses at the doorway and asks "Could…could I be told if anything of interest is found?" And then she clamps her hand over her mouth and darts through the door without waiting for an answer and can be heard muttering to herself about learning to keep her mouth shut as she closes the door.

Niva would have replied, and likely positively, but Keziah's running off before she can, leaving Niva to glance again at the rolled up map. A note of 'Do not Touch' is laid over it, before Niva is departing as well - to find one of them archivists to copy it.
