Yokohama - Hydroponics Bay
The first thing that one might notice upon stepping into the hydroponics bay is that it was in fact, not always used for this purpose. In truth this area was once home to a much larger portion of the ship responsible for the cryogenic storage of seeds, plants, and animals from Terra. Some of these did not survive the trip, others were found to be unadaptable to Pern's harsher environment. As if to give this sad testimonial a measure of hope, most of the old cryogenic equipment here has been removed, whether it was simply dismantled for research, or melted down for its precious steel and in its place has taken root a truly amazing sight.
Everywhere there is warm life giving green. Nothing is planted here that can't be pruned without killing the main body, insuring that nothing biological manages to work its way into the ship's electrical and causes unnecessary extra work for the crew. Whole sections have been dedicated to various plants by species, including trees, vast beds of flowers, herbs, and even patches for fruits and vegetables. A watering system installed over these sections allowing a light mist or spray as programmed for each plants individual needs. What moisture is not used or is created by the plants leeches away into specially designed receptacles that repurifies them through a filter either for redistribution here or elsewhere as needed.
Not only do these green growing thing provide supplements to the crew's diet, but also precious oxygen. The air in this space is crisp, clean and absolutely clear of any impurities, which is a great source of delight for those living aboard ship. Regardless of the cold steel that peeks through the foliage and present at the feet, this place is a favorite among the crew and many members can be found here for an off duty stroll.
Where green meets steel, where technology meets life, such a lesson in opposites to teach those who enter. And this is where Flandynn has currently fetched up. Lost in the philodendrons, surrounded by bamboo, shadowed by the fronds of foreign ferns, the teen reaches a hand up to claim a blossom, tall upon some plant or another, vibrant as a sunset and large as his palm. Long stems shake, flat leaves wobble, and a couple of fat drops of collected moisture plop right upon the teen's shirt in a mark of guilt for upsetting the flora… that and the wide blossom now in hand.
Keziah has meandered her way down into the hydrophonics as well. It's not Pern, but it's close enough, and all the green she can at least imagine she's back on solid ground. THe greenrider still has her moments with inner-ear troubles, but least she's not as bad off as poor Landers. Though it did take some bellowing from V'dim to get her back up to the station again. She glances around looking to see who all has come to enjoy this little bit of paradise as she makes her cay carefully over towards the herbs.
Kiley continues her exploration of the ship, finding herself in the nest room and this room is the Hydroponics. Her eyes scan the area with an eager need to take it all in and never stopping as she continues to walk about. While the life is interesting, she is more drawn to the technology that keeps it all going. She does not linger in one spot too long, however, quickly turning and moving about the room in a silent exploration. Keziah is given a polite nod as she makes her way past and then comes to settle near where Flandynn is. Brows lift at the sight of the other candidate and then she blinks. "What are you doing?"

As the plant Flandynn upset settles, footsteps care of Keziah near to causes the teen's ears to perk. His little less than average height, combined with the tall greenery about him has the teen coming about with a curious look. But oh, there is Kiley, standing right before him. He blinks owlishly at her for a long moment, not quite a vision of guilt, but it is pretty sharding close. In the next breath, his hand is extending, offering her that floppy dusk-painted blossom. "For you." Awkward is awkward, and smooth recovery isn't so smooth, but damn if he doesn't make a try at it.
Smiling at Kiley, Keziah settles in amongst the herbs, looking for a few certain ones. She does keep an on the two, smirking a little at the presentation of flower. "Are you two enjoying the Yokohama?" she asks after a moment as she heads there with a small amount of leaves and a little bit of root as well.
Kiley stares at Flandynn as the hand extends and offers her the blossom, staring just a bit longer as her gaze drops down to the flower. Her gaze drifts back up to his face and she carefully takes the offered flower and promptly begins to examine it. "Thank you." Pause, "what were you doing?" Still, the question returns despite the offering and it is Keziah's question that draws attention away from the flower. "It is interesting. I was in the research area not too long ago. I'll likely be returning.. I wanted to see the rest before I trapped myself in there for a little longer." Her lips tug into a cheerful smile before her gaze once again settles on the blossom in her hand.
"Picking you a flower." Obviously. Flandynn's eyebrows lift just the slightest in challenge to his words, complete with serious dark eyes and a slight lilt to his lips that bodes nothing innocent. He remains so for a moment, but between then and the next, he is happily responding to Keziah's query, "Aye. If my ma asked me a turn ago what the shards I thought I was going to do away from her home cooking, I never would have thought to tell her I'd be up in space in a thing like this." His eyes look back towards Kiley, "What is in the research area?"
Keziah chuckles "Well, you can send her a message telling her about your time up here. If you think she won't have a heart attack over the news." she nods to Kiley "There are a lot of interesting things to explore here. I think we've lost a few candi's to the ship. They'd rather immerse themselves up here than try for a dragon. And then there are some that spend time comin on up still after the Impress." course the look on Kezi's face is more like why would they want too. Still, she's gotta be fair to the place.
Kiley blinks and gives Flandynn a wary little look for his statement, brows furrowing but no challenge comes from the woman as she considers the flower a little longer with a careful tilt to examine the underside. As for the question of the research area, she smiles. "Digital information. Computers…" She sighs softly in pure pleasure, right there. Fingers play with the flower before she grins widely at Keziah. "I really do understand, but, there's a lot to do. Especially with the Hatching, I couldn't forget about that just to stay here. But I think I will come back later. There is so much here that.. I can't even grasp it all right now. So many computers and.." Another sigh and the woman looks to be in pure bliss once again.
"Ah, there will be no heart attacks, but she'll just blame another couple of strands of grey hair on me. Apparently, I alone, am responsible for all of it. Or so she says." The burden on a son upon his mother. Flandynn's shoulders rise and fall in a shrug, but it is a good-natured one. His breath leaves his lungs in a slow sigh, "It's a nice place to visit, but I'm not so sure I'd want to stay here. I'll be happy to touch down back to Xanadu when that time comes though." His eyes flick back to Kiley as she near to coos over the technology, and it now brings a lifting to those self-same eyebrows. His voice drops a little low, as if imparting some secret information for Keziah, even if his eyes are on Kiley and his voice so easily and deliberately caries, "I almost think we should leave her alone with her computers. I feel like some kind of voyeur."
Keziah gives a little nod "I've had much the same experiance with my mother." There's a pause and fingering through her hair. "And I"ll probably say it about Mirai as well, albeit she is my only one and I don't have any yet. Though I'm surprised at time." she shrugs a little and then just eyes Flandynn. "You're bad." she says with a barely concealed smirk. She turns her attention back to Kiley "I am glad we won't be losing you just yet. So hard to find good candies"
"At least you didn't get as sick as Landers." Kiley muses softly as her attention continues to linger on the flower in her hand, examining it thoughtfully. Though Flandynn's words to the greenrider has the computer crafter coloring a dark shade as she shoots him a look. Her fingers tighten around the poor flower and she gives Keziah a slight nod. "It is important to be there for the eggs.." And just like that, she turns to continue her exploration of the room without a glance back towards the pair.
Flandynn plants a hand to his chest as if stabbed to the quick, all wide eyes for Keziah. He holds the shocked and stunned and disbelieving pose for a moment, but in the next his hands drop, tucking thumbs into the front pockets of his trousers. He rocks, from heels to toes, chin dropping as if a tad shammed, but that dimple-bordered grin tells a whole 'nother story. "She's the good candie, I'm the bad. I've a feeling I know who is going to be left behind, actually." His smile grows for Keziah, just because, his query following something that Kiley says, "So, about how much longer before those eggs begin to hatch?"
Keziah just eyes Flan and shakes her head "incorrigible." she remarks and then tilts her head "Don't let one time being left standing discourage you. Your egg just wasn't there. Dragons aren't wrong, just a little premature sometimes. It was some time before my Alosynth came out." she adds and then she tilts her head a little as she thinks "Hmm, I think I remember the Dragon Healers saying something about a couple of sevendays more to go." She shrugs a little "I tend to lose track of the time."
Kiley glances over at the talking pair, cheeks still flushed a dark shade before she carefully makes her way around again to hear what Keziah has to say. "I see.. That is good to know." She smiles slightly and then considers the lift once more. "Hopefully the time will pass quickly." Is her final thought before she's heading to the lift. "I'm going back to the research room." And then into the lift she goes.
Flandynn looks back towards Kiley following Keziah's words, giving her a silent look, quietly curious in a redundant sort of way. As she leaves into the lift, his eyes move back across to Keziah, "Time seems a bit… artificial up here. Lights on, lights off. Screws with the internal clock some." And then he has to ask, "I heard there was sugar cane up here. You wouldn't happen to know where that is, would you?" Probably the last thing he needs about now is a sugar high.
