Xanadu Weyr - Caverns

A massive cavern in it's own right, this one has been skillfully adapted for human habitation. The high ceilings have been painted a light, soft ivory, as are the walls where numerous tapestries hang to provide brilliant color and insulation from the stone. The floor has been left in its natural state, pale pink granite speckled through with glittering mica and dark flecks of basalt, leveled carefully but kept sufficiently rough to avoid slips.
The cavern itself is loosely divided into areas, each one set up to be suitable for some segment of the Weyr's population. The most frequently occupied area, however, is the one near the Kitchens where tables of varying sizes provide a place to sit down and eat or chat and a buffet of consumables is almost always kept stocked. Its plain that on most days, this area wouldn't accommodate anywhere near the full population of the Weyr and equally plain that on such occasions when a formal meal is laid out, tables are appropriated from all the other areas.
A big fireplace is set into the wall near the Kitchens as well, several comfortable chairs nearby providing haunts for elderly residents or riders who like a good view of all that happens. Rugs cover the floor in strategic spots, all of them abstract or geometric in design and most in the softly neutral colors of undyed wool.

Mid-afternoon in the caverns, and the rush of people in to get lunch have mostly rushed back out again. There are a few stragglers remaining, among them Soriana. She's sitting in a comfortable chair, reading a book. Inkfoot is curled up asleep on her lap, and she reaches down to pet him from time to time.

Idrissa is late for lunch, though this most likely doesn't surprize anyone, not even herself. A half yawn escapes her while she makes her way on into the cavern, a bit of dirt clinging to her clothing, and she goes about trying to wipe off her hands against her already dirt covered pants, which does little to clean her hands any. Her gaze drifts over the area, a smile offererd as she catches sight of Soriana and she moves on towards her friend. "Hey Soriana." Her gaze is offered over the area before she looks back to the other. "I suppose that I managed to miss lunch.. again huh?"

Fortunately, the Weyr is used to people working unusual hours, and even when it's not the main meals, there's always /something/ around. Worst case, overcooked stew or porridge and half-stale bread - and during the day, it's often even better than that. Leftovers are an important part of this balanced cavern! Soriana looks up at the sound of her name, and offers a grin and a wave. "Hey, Idrissa," she says, and takes a glance around herself. "Yeah, seems like. There might be some of the cheese buns left, though. They made 'em spicy today."

Idrissa lifts a hand to scratch at her head a moment. "Spicy cheese buns.. Sounds like a win-win to me." She offers with an amused tone and grin. "You want one?" This questioned while she goes to see what she can possible wrangle from the kitchen cooks.. Or perhaps ask very nicely is a better term for it! She waits to hear a answer from her friend before going to do the asking.

Soriana grins, and shakes her head. "Nah. I already had one!" While Idrissa goes to check on what food options remain, Sori reads for a bit longer and then closes the book and puts it aside to wait for her friend's return.

Idrissa is gone for a few moments, doing that nice asking bit rather well! She is rewarded with a bowl of left over and rather overcooked stew with a cheese bun upon it. Seems there was plenty of the spicy cheese buns as they wasn't on the higher end of the 'love em' list. With food in hand she moves to down next to her friend humming a soft tune to herself. "So, anything going on around here?" This questioned while she goes about breaking up some of the bun into the stew.

"Well, let's see…" says Soriana, and ponders for a few moments. "Mostly lately it's gossip about the weyrlings. Den'l got caught sneaking out last night, so he's got double training to make up for it… oh! Have you seen those new uniforms they got for 'em? Purple. Like, fresh grapes purple."

Idrissa munches on a bit of the cheese bun, a curious glance sent towards Soriana and she blinks. "Ya, I figured most of the talk be about them. Makes sense though." A faint cough escapes her as she seems to have gotten a bit of spicey bit something. "Purple?.." There's a pause at the thought and she imagens a bunch of them running around looking like purple grapes. She grins. "I haven't gotten to see it yet. Do they all where 'em?"

Soriana shakes her head. "Nah. I think most of 'em have decided they'd rather get their old clothes ruined than have to wear that." She grins. "Still funny, though." The tunnelcat in her lap rolls over halfway and offers a 'dook!' to the conversation. Sori ruffles at him, and he chirps before dozing off again. "You should come watch them training, sometime… it's pretty neat! Though I guess you're pretty busy with the runners, huh?"

Idrissa giggles softly at the thought. "Can't say that I blame 'em. I mean.. Running around looking that a walking grape doesn't sound like fun in the least." This said with an amused tone before she chews on a bite of stew. A glance is offered to the ferret on her friends lap and she smiles. His always so cute! "I've thought about it.. But ya it can be rather busy. Specially with a few of the younger ones whom are rather spirited." Well that's one way to say the horse wanted to trample someone. "When abouts do they train any how?" She should most likely keep track of it sometime.

Nope, not fun at all. …except for everyone else who gets to watch. Sori giggles at the thought of it, then nods. "They might be nervous about the dragons still… back at Ierne, whenever we got new runners they were always kind of anxious around Yumeth until they got used to her. Then they'd settle down, so… maybe that just hasn't happened yet." It's something to hope for, at least! In answer to the other girl's question, she says, "Middle of the day, mostly. It kinda depends, though…"

Idrissa nods at that. "Yes I imagen they could be rather nervous around them. Heck the first time I saw a dragon I was speechless for a while." Which isn't hard to believe, but she got over it. Another bite of stew is taken, the spicey cheese bun is rather less spicey now at least. "Alright. I'll have to try and make time to go and see them." She glances over to the other. "You've seen it lots more then I." Well with her friends mother having a dragon its no surprize! "What all do they do?"

Soriana laughs. "Oh, there's nothin' scary about dragons, not really." Of course, this comes from the girl who's been around one since her earliest memories. "If you do make it down there, be careful with Aisuohkoth. She likes pouncing people." Sori grins. "Jessi's trying to get her to stop, but…" The girl shakes her head, still grinning. "They've been doing obstacle courses, lately… like in runner racing. Jumping and running and all that… and catching this big leather ball. It's so they can go hunting properly, 'stead of the weyrlings having to chop up food for them."

Idrissa grins and nods. "Well I an't scared of em. Just curious about them mostly." Another bite of food is taken as she thinks on it, her spoon taps against her bowl a moment. "But there so much different then a runner, or canine, cow.. I've caught myself watching the few that fly by in awe." She smiles and shrugs a moment. "Well, if I do go figure I'd go with you anyhow. Your just have to point out whic one I need to worry about pouncing me to bits."

Maybe it's the thought of food, or maybe he just got bored - either way, a half-grown brown firelizard pops into being just above Soriana, and flutters down to her shoulder from there. She reaches up to pet under his chin as she nods to Idrissa. "You def'nitely need to come watch them train, then… you'll have a lot less awe after you watch Izzuth tumble his way into post after post." She shakes her head, grinning. "He is getting better at it, but… poor brownling!"

Idrissa blinks and peers up at the firelizard and ohs softly before grinning. "Hey, when did he hatch?" She questions curiously to Soriana and looks into her bowl a moment. She chews on her lip and finds a piece of what ever meat within the bowl and gives it a slight shake before offering it to the little brown firelizard. "His cute!" Though Ida tends to say any animal is cute. A soft giggle escapes her. "Still.. His just a baby. You should have seen some of the draft runners back at my uncle's place. They would run and then go sprawling on the ground, four long knoby legs nearly stretched out fully." It was amusing!

Toral flutters his wings and hops down to the offered bit of meat, chirping inquisitively before taking it in his forepaws and nibbling it. Soriana laughs. "Not that long before the dragons did. It was sorta neat, seeing that hatching right after his…" She pets her firelizard's tail as he eats, and nods. "Yeah, they're all just babies still… big babies, but babies." She grins.

Idrissa smiles as the little firelizard takes the meat. "What's his name?" She questions curiously. "Seems Missed everything lately!" A half pout is seen and she shakes her head. "I'm gona have to start hang out with you more again and get back into the swing of things around here." There is only so much time one can spend with runners, right?

"Toral," says Soriana, and the brown flit chirps approvingly at being mentioned. His girl laughs a bit, and nods. "Yeah. Has that harper who does the teaching come chasing you down yet? He's always after me, insisting as how I need to study this or that. All the boring stuff, who's Lord Holder of what." She sticks out her tongue. Meh!

Idrissa grins at Toral and nods slightly while finshing her stew after another bite of it and sets the bowl on a table next to her. "No.. I've not had the pleasure. Suppose that might be becasue I hang out in the fields nd stables perhaps?" She questions with an amused tone. "Does the harper have a name so I know whom to try and avoid?" Well Ida is quick! All that time running around so she wouldn't get stepped on by large hooves may have some part of it.

Soriana uhms. Name, right, surely the man has a name, doesn't he? Uhhhh… "Rassin, I think? Somethin' like that. Big square sorta guy, grey hair and a beard." She nods at Idrissa's successful avoidance. Not being related to one of the weyrwomen probably also helps - not that Sori ever makes a deal over who her mother is, but harpers make a habit of knowing those sorts of things, and seeing to it that such brats are properly educated. "Anyway, we should hang out more. Y'can show me the runners you've been working with, too."

Idrissa hums and nods a moment while scratching at a bit of dirt on her pants as if trying to get it off, no luck though. "I'll have to keep an eye out for him." Though she is rather sure this Ressin guy would much rather talk to Soriana then herself. Soriana is an important person! "Sure, I'd love to show them too you. Maybe see about going for a ride or somethin'." Which she doesn't tend to get to do very often anymore. "Say, I thought I heard a rumor someone found puppies and brought them back to the Weyr. Did you hear anything about that?" She doesn't have anything to fawn over that is considered her own, so perhaps she could try and get one of the puppies if there are any left.

Important? Well… more just related to an important person. It's sorta like important, only with none of the fun parts! Just the bit where some people look at you, expecting you to turn into someone important someday yourself. Not all of 'em, just… some. Like Roisin or whoever. Sori grins to Idrissa, and nods. "We should definitely go for a ride. Maybe we can find a message that needs delivering somewhere… then it's all official business and you're doin' work!" She grins widely. Ah, the power of excuses. At the mention of pups, she tilts her head. "Oh, yeah! I'fan and Jessi found those. They got into all sortsa trouble in the candidate barracks for that… Alzanbri has a pair, and I think Keziah got one too, but… hmm. Well, y'can ask Jessi, she's Aisuohkoth's. Or I'fan, I guess. He's Izzuth's."

Idrissa blinks and ohs before grinning. "Hey! That sounds like a great idea." She says with a happy tone at the thought. Her hand lifting to scratch at her head once more. "I have the perfect pair of runners that would be great for a message delivery too. Great with the trip, and as gentle as can be. They love to run too so its a plus!" Ida does seem rather excited about this. A oh escapes her and she looks over to Sori and smiles. "Alright.. I would sorta like to get one maybe. I haven't had a dog or anything since back at the farm. Sorta different when its your own an all." She points to the tunnelcat and then the firelizard. "You know?"

Soriana grins, and nods. "It's a plan! I'll ask my mom if she's got anything that needs sending out. Bound t'be something." Because, while such things /could/ be sent by dragonrider more quickly… dragonriders are busy, and daughters and their friends need excuses to go wandering. She nods about the canine. "Yeah. Can ask!" Toral steals another bit of meat from Idrissa's abandoned stew-bowl, and Sori pets Inkfoot, then hehs as he sleep-wrassles her hand.

Yes indeed, wandering trips are funz! Idrissa grins and nods. "Alright, great! It'll be fun." She offers even half clapping at the thought. A glance is sent to Toral and she chuckles osftly. "Ya I'll have to ask 'em for sure." She pauses a moment, though that would mean she would actually have to talk to someone instead of being around listening all the time. "Hey.. Um.. Soriana, would.. You maybe mind introducing me or somethin'?" A slight sheepish glance is sent towards her friend. "I mean.. If you already know 'em an stuff.." She picks at her jeans a moment.

Talking to people! So hazardous. Soriana understands. Fortunately, when it came time for her to meet people, she had Inkfoot to break the ice. "Sure. Whenever you come watch the dragons training with me!" She grins. "We can catch 'em before. Or after. Depends on when they've got a chance." It's like baby dragons keep their humans busy most of the time!

Idrissa has always been shy and quiet type, other then when she is working with the runners. A soft smilean nod is seen to her friend. "Alright.. I appricate it." Heck it took her forever to even ask Soriana for her name when they was back in Irene! "An i'm sure there busy and stuffs. Wouldn't want to bother them or nothing."

With the difference in their personalities, it's really not much wonder that in the time they've been here, Soriana has gotten to know many a person and dragon, and Idrissa, well… has done a great deal with the runners! Sori nods cheerfully. "Well, sure they're busy. There's a lot to do with new dragons, 'specially one that's as enthusiastic as Aisuohkoth about it. They probably fostered off the pups on someone, if they didn't get them all adopted… but we'll figure it out. 'm sure you'll get along with Jessi, too. Back when she was at Eastern, she had a whole bunch of felines."

Idrissa smiles and nods to Soriana. "Aisuohkoth sounds like a interesting dragon. I hope I get to meet 'er." She ohs at this and glances to Soriana pondering this. "Well she sounds really nice. They all do I mean." Is offered quickly.

Soriana laughs, and nods. "Yeah, it's pretty good here. 'm glad we came…" She's quiet for a moment, looking around the caverns, then ohs and leans in closer to Idrissa. "If any of the kids start asking you, though… you don't know where I am. Or where Inkfoot is." She makes a ghhk gesture across her throat.

Idrissa smiles and nods. "I'm glad I got to come along with you too. Its.. A different expierence to say the least." One she is rather sure her mother is still unhappy with. Not a letter from her family the whole time she has been here yet. She blinks and peers over at Soriana curiously. "Ah.. Alright.. Why?" Is questioned with a tilt of her head and she peers at Inkfoot then back to the gesture made.

"'Cause they go crazy over him, that's why," says Soriana. "They've been better since the hatching… all playin' dragons instead… but they were running around and playing tunnelcats and tunnelsnakes and asking me a million and a half questions all the time. Ugh!" She shudders. No lover of babies and sticky-fingered children, Soriana.

Idrissa lets a soft laugh escapes her an soon smiles while nodding. "I see.. Alright I haven't seen either of you. Promise!" She offers before a soft giggle escapes her. "Well.. He is cuteness.. An fluffy.. So I can see why they would be crazy over 'em."

Inkfoot wriggles around in Soriana's lap, opening up his eyes. Adorable dook? He certainly didn't mind soaking up all the attention, oh no! It was just fine by him. Sori rolls her eyes, but she's grinning. "Yeah, but why do they have to be so… so loud. And sticky. Bleh." She reaches down and pets the tunnelcat. "I'm gonna get him a mate, I think. I've got some marks saved, so I just gotta ask my mom." Nothing like ferret babies for extra adorableness.

Idrissa ohs softly at this and leans against the side of Soriana's seat to peer at Inkfoot. "If she lets you, and they have babies I totally call dibs on one." Wouldn't that be cute, a litle ferret babie that could ride with Ida on a runner! Yes that would be an interesting sight.

Soriana giggles, and nods. "Okay!" Because she is most certainly not going to try and keep all of them. One tunnelcat is trouble enough. Two is pure chaos, and an entire horde of them… oh, no. She's not /that/ crazy. "I'll ask soon. She's just been busy lately… well. She's busy a lot, since we came here. I guess being a Weyrwoman is like that." There's a little sigh at that.

With an entire horde of tunnelcats they could take over anything! Idrissa giggles and nods. "Alright!" She offers happly at the idea. "Well.. I imagen she is rather busy. But you guys still talk and stuff so that's good."

First the Weyr, next the world! After all, Inkfoot has already slain a wild feline. He's a blooded warrior! Soriana nods. "Yeah, it's still good. And I'm glad we came here, even if does mean she's busy." She smiles, and then tilts her head to the side. "How about you? Have you gotten any letters from home yet?"

Idrissa smiles and nods a moment. "Ya.. But.. Busy isn't bad." There is a pause at the question an she frowns a moment while tilting her head to glance off. "No.. Nota one. Not even from Samuel." She feels like she was cut off, but it was her choice in the matter. A faint shake of her head is seen. "It's alright.. I mean, it was my choice to leave. She told me not to an all.. So I know she's really mad."

Soriana frowns. "Well, that sucks," she says. "I mean… you're good with the beasts, it only makes sense you'd do something with them. If your mom doesn't see that, she's just being dumb." She shakes her head, dismissing it. "Sam'll prob'ly write eventually, once your mom calms down… or if he wants something."
"I know.." Idrissa offers with a soft tone. Its simple to say, though harder for her to think about. "I just hope she calms down over it soon." A slight shake of her head is soon seen. "Anyway. I have to much to worry about here now with the runners.. I can't let that pull me down."

"Yeah," says Soriana, and lets the subject drop. She's quiet for a few minutes, thinking for something else to talk about. Hmm. While she's pondering, Toral steals another bit of meat, and flutters back to Soriana's lap to offer it to Inkfoot. The ferret squirms around in Sori's lap, then licks Toral and takes the meat. Ferretdook, firelizardtrill, and the two of them curl up together in her lap. Soriana laughs.

Idrissa tilts her head while she watches Toral bounce around from her chair, to the bowl and then back over to Soriana and Inkfoot. She chuckles softly and smiles. "An't they cute. I'm glad they get along with one another so well."

Soriana grins, and nods. "I was worried at first, but I'm pretty sure Inkfoot thinks Toral's another tunnelcat… and Toral just figures Inkfoot's normal, 'cause he was there when he hatched and everything." She pets her two pets, smiling. "Toral's been learning to hunt from Inkfoot, too. The other day, Inkfoot went down a tunnelsnake den and chased it out… and Toral just pounced right down on it and caught it!"

Idrissa chuckles and nods. "Well that's great!" She offers happly before leaning over to softly try and pet/scritch across Toral's head and then Inkfoot's. "Good.. I had a feeling that Inkfoot might be ok with the idea. New friend for him to get in trouble with after all."

Toral lifts his head to the petting with a dignified chirrup, his eyes whirling content green with inquisitive yellow sparks. Inkfoot responds with more enthusiasm, wrapping a paw up around Idrissa's hand as she scritches him. "Trouble? Him?" Soriana just laughs.

Idrissa giggles softly at the pair and awws at Inkfoot. "So cute his mibble name should be trouble." She offers with an amused tone.

Soriana laughs. "Nah, that's his last name. His middle name is 'Gets Into'." She pets the ferret herself, and he wriggles, arching up into her fingers as they move along. "He hasn't done anything too bad lately, though. Well. 'cept for getting a dragon pinched on the nose."

Idrissa laughs herself and wiggles her fingers into Inkfoot's fur. "How did he pinched on the nose?" She questions with a curious tone as she playful pokes at the little ferret's chest.

Inkfoot dooks, wriggling about and wrapping his paws at Idrissa's hand. "Well, _he_ didn't. But he found a nest of spiderclaws, the dragon dug it up… and she stuck her nose in. So a spiderclaw pinched her!" Soriana giggles, because in retrospect? Totally funny.

Idrissa giggles as her hand is grabbed bit little cute ferret feet! "Seriously?.." A soft laugh escapes her ant this and she tsktsks at Inkfoot. "You got that dragon huh? I bet you thought it was really funny."

Soriana pffs. "Funny nothing! He was goin' after all the spiderclaws, like he planned to eat every single one!" She grins. Inkfoot wriggles around, dooking. Greedy little (cute) beastie. "He didn't… but we did. Jessi and I gathered 'em up, and I brought 'em to the kitchens. Aisuohkoth chomped 'em too, once she got over the being pinched."

Idrissa grins as she listens to Soriana, a soft laugh escapes her while she tickles Inkfoot a few times before letting go. "Well it all worked out in the end. An the dragon got a new expierence." A faint nod is seen while she smiles.

Inkfoot wrassles around at the tickles, dooking happily, and Soriana laughs as she watches. "Yeah. Nothin' a bit of numbweed couldn't fix." Once Ida's hand is extracted, Inkfoot scampers around on Sori's lap, planting his paws on Toral's back. The firelizard lets out a bit of a protesting squeak, opening his eyes. "Behave now," says Sori, and Inkfoot dooks unrepentantly. She shakes her head at him, then goes on. "Yeah. S'a lot of new experiences… and for the new riders, too, just getting used to someone in their heads like that. I mean… even with Toral, it was sorta weird at first, and he's nowhere near so smart as a dragon."

Idrissa chuckles and nods to Inkfoot as he runs around before her gaze turns to Sori and smiles. "I bet that is an interesting bit.. Having someone or something else in your head. Talking to you an so forth." She grins faintly. "I have enough in my head sometimes as it is."

Soriana laughs, and nods. "Yeah. I mean, firelizards don't talk, but the first time I got woken up in the middle of the night with _my_ stomach rumbling 'cause _he_ was hungry…" She shakes her head, grinning, and reaches down to pet the brown between his wings as Inkfoot scrambles down again. "It's neat, though."

Idrissa blinks and ohs while looking to the little brown. "So they can do that? That is soo cool.." She offers with a generaly eager sounding tone at the thought. "Well.. no not the waking up and having rumble stomach.."

Soriana nods. "It's sorta… y'know how you can look at a runner and you can sorta see how it's really mad, or scared, or whatever?" Well, Idrissa can, at least. Sori's not nearly so good at that, though she's not terrible with the beasts. "With firelizards… and all dragonkin, really… they just put that right in the heads of their people. With Toral, it's… emotions, mostly. Pictures of things. Ideas, like… wanting something, or going somewhere. Simple stuff. But I can feel him thinkin' it, and I can think stuff back at him, if it's simple enough."

Idrissa smiles and nods as she listens to Soriana. "That is amazing." She offers softly at the thought. A soft chuckle escaping her. "An yes.. I get the idea of what your saying about the runners an stuff." For a moment she pauses. "I'm rather glad that I can't hear the thoughts of the runners." That might be a bit of a scarey thing indeed. Or the herdbeasts when the dragons went after them!

Soriana nods in response to Idrissa. "Runners'd be weird." She grins. "Toral's good, though. Like, say…" She reaches down and touches the little brown, closing her eyes for a moment and mentally reaching for him while she pictures the kitchen just beyond; then one of the cheese-buns. She holds those images in her mind, and overlays them with the simple impetus of 'Want!' Toral tilts his head to the side, crooning to her… then spreads his wings and flutters into the air. Between one wingstroke and the next, he disappears.

Idrissa laughs and nods while agreeing with Soriana on that. "Yes they are weird indeed." In more ways then one! She looks over and curious watches her friend and Toral. A soft smile seen while the two seem to have a moment it seems. Her gaze follows after the little dragon and she looks back to Sori curiously.

Soriana just grins to Idrissa, waiting for… nearly a minute, all told; until, out of nowhere, Toral reappears, his wings straining with the weight of the cheese bun held in his claws! Soriana grins widely to her firelizard, and reaches up to catch him and the heavy, heavy baked good. "Thank you!" she tells him, lifting him up to nuzzle at him as he arches his neck and croons to her before hopping to her shoulder and leaving her with cheesy goodness.

Idrissa just blinks and soon laughs out while Toral bounces up with the cheese bun. "You.. Thought of that and he went and got it?" She looks utterly amused over the thought of this. "That is amazing.."

Soriana bites into the bun, and grins. "Pretty much, yeah!" Some people use those amazing abilities of firelizards for practical things. Sending messages! Delivering important letters! …well. That's some people. Some use 'em to sneak baked goods.

Idrissa grins and nods while giving the little firelizard a soft scratch against his head. "Well I find that rather interesting. Maybe one day I can find out what its like myself."

Toral croons softly at the scritch, leaning forward slightly to accept it. Soriana smiles, and nods. "Well, keep an ear out, y'know? Someone's firelizard is bound to have a clutch sooner or later, and you can ask or trade for an egg." Easier said than done, likely, for shy Idrissa, but…

Idrissa chuckles softly while she continues the scritaching against Toral's head, her fingers softly rub against his scales a few times. "Ya, I'll have to do that." This is true, for as shy as she is it would not be a easy thing! Still, if someone is truely interested, and wants something badly enough others may be surprized to find out one can do!

Soriana nods approvingly. Added bonus of firelizards: When they're happy, there's a warm fuzzy glow in the perceptions of their human. Toral is assuredly happy, what with his crooning and the slow blue swirl of his eyes. Mmmmmh. "So," says Soriana after a few moments. "What'cha got planned for the rest of the afternoon?"

Idrissa smiles and soon leaves Toral along while she glances to Soriana. "Well.. I dono. I've managed to get some free time. Im thinking they want me to do some things that don't involve runners at least a few times a week." She smirks. "I have no idea why.." Well she has been told she is rather shy, and quiet maybe that is one reason why. A faint shrug is seen. "Why for?"

Soriana laughs, and nods. "Yeah. Even you can't spend all your time around beasties." She says this, with ferret in lap and firelizard on shoulder. This is totally keeping away from beasties, yes. …well, away from runners at least. "Just thinking what we should do! I gotta finish up that reading sometime, but it doesn't hafta be done /now/…"

Idrissa makes a slight face, perhaps another pout. "But.. There fun.. An someone can learn so much." She pauses and chuckles a moment. "Well.. Alright ya I suppose you have a point there." A grin is offered to her friend. "You know this place better then I do.. I'll follow your lead." This said with a playful tone.

"Still. You don't hafta try and make journeyman by the time you're fifteen," teases Soriana with a grin. She stretches a bit, and tucks her ferret into the carry-pouch she has on her belt before standing up, Toral spreading his wings briefly to keep his balance. "Well… we could play capture-stone, or… we could go to the beach. Weather seems pretty nice today."

Idrissa can't help but laught at that and grins. "True.. But wouldn't that be amazing if I could?" Perhaps she was thinking on that.. Oh well. Her eyes light up at the talk of the beach. "How about the beach?" She questions curiously. Its been sometime since she has seen the ocean, even being so near one. "I haven't had a chance to go see it yet." This said while she stands herself.

Soriana laughs, and nods. "It sure would be." Of course, here's Sori, almost fourteen and still not even apprenticed… well, so it goes. "C'mon, then," she says, and leads the way out of the caverns!

Xanadu Weyr - Beach
The unerring range of subdued white rises and falls in a multitude of sandy dunes, creating an endless amount of tiny valleys constantly demolished and rebuilt by the frequent arrival or departure of a dragon. Smoothing out as it slopes gently to the edge of the deep blue water, the sand darkens and a shell here and there stands out for children to collect. The beach itself is set along a low cliff - the height lessoning as one heads eastwards, blocking a portion of the beach from direct access.
The wide wide stretch of water opens up to the east, the far distant shore way beyond the horizon and the beach curves ever so slowly round to east and west, distant arms of land embracing the wind-ruffled Caspian Lake. East leads up to the mouth of the Rubicon River, where the protecting cliff is merely an arms length higher then the sand, and beyond that, a winding road leading out of Xanadu's territory. Westwards, the beach narrows as the cliff swings out, leaving a path wide enough for dragons in single file before cutting in to the sheltered cove designated the Weyrling Beach. However, cut in the cliff face to the north are a variety of rough, wide staircases, providing access to the clearing and to the meadow.

Soriana leads the way across the clearing, waving to some of those they pass. It's like she knows people around here! When did that happen? Soon enough, she's skipping down the stairs in the cliff-face down to the beach.

Idrissa follows along after Soriana, friendly glances and waves offerred to whom ever happens to look towards her while she goes. "You know a lot more people then I could ever think of." Yes she really needs to stop spending time with the runners! She hops along down the steps and smiles at the scent of the beanch and water that hits her. A soft oooh escapes her, eyes widen at the sight of the beanch an water. "Lovely!" Another thing she loves other then her runners is the beach and water, it was something she was born with and she blames her father.

Soriana laughs. "There's a lot more people here than back at the runnerholds," she says. "More like at Ierne itself, but… well, I never lived there, so it was different." She shrugs. "You'll get to know 'em too." This said with confidence, despite the fact the two girls have been here just about the same amount of time, and yet. Idrissa's reaction to the water makes her grin, and she spins around slowly on the sand as Inkfoot hops down from his pouch and scampers off.

Idrissa chuckles softly and smiles. "Well yes.. that is true." She offers with an amused tone. "I never actually visted the Ierne Weyr. Saw it plenty of times from afar when I could manage to burrow a runner and take off." She glances after Inkfoot before pausing at the water's edge as the waterstarts to slide backwards. She leans down snagging a pure white shell in the process.

Soriana nods, ambling along the shore as Inkfoot investigates various small burrows and bits of driftwood and debris. "Yeah, my mom ended up there sometimes. Stuff t'do with Yumeth, I guess." She shrugs; apparently she didn't pay too much attention to those things, besides coming along. She probably got distracted by the dragon-watching. She wanders over to look, and grins at the shell. "Nice one."

Idrissa smiles and offers it over to Soriana. "My father always called me the 'shell finder'. I've always managed to find great shells for one reason or another." She looks amused as she catches sight of Inkfoot. "I just know it was a different place, was always curious about visiting but never had the chance." Well everyone tends to dragon watch at some point!

Soriana takes the shell and looks it over in more detail, holding it up to the light, and grins before handing it back. "My father was from Ierne, I guess," she says with a shrug. "Maybe you'll get a chance to visit there someday… who knows, maybe you'll even get a dragon and go flying wherever your fancies take you!"

Idrissa waves a hand slightly. "Naw.. Truthfully I feel rather at home here." She glancs back up the way they have came and smiles. At the comment she glances towards Soriana and chuckles. "Me?.. Naw.. I don't see that happening. You I could imagen doing it way before I'd ever get the chance." An there Ida goes doubting herself. She's quiet for a moment. "Though.. I never imanged myself here either."

"Well, course you feel at home. There's runners, right?" teases Soriana with a grin, then spreads her hands. "The dragons're the ones who know! It's all up to them who rides." She shrugs. "I guess it does run in families sometimes, but… not always. One'f the weyrlings was a stablehand before she impressed, and now she's got Szadith. Y'just never know."

Idrissa sticks her tongue out playful like at her friend. "Ah, that is true!" She chuckles about the dragons. "Well yes that also true." This said with an amused tone.

Soriana grins cheerfully, and steps out to the edge of the water, looking across it. It's a fairly calm day, though there's a bit of wind to make the waves ripple. "We'll just see, next time there's a clutch on the sands." She leaves it at that, for now, kicking off her shoes and stepping out into the water.

Idrissa ponders that for a few moments, that should be a interesting time! She glancs back to the water and soon grins, her own boots are taken off and hopfully set back enough so they stay dry. With her pants rolls up to below her knees she runs into the water sending it splashing in the process. "You ever been fishing before?" This questioned with a curious tone while the water splashing about her ankles.

The water's cool, but not unpleasantly so; autumn's only recently begun, and the days are still warm. Soriana grins to Ida as the other girl joins her, splaying her toes against the sand as she wades out. At the question, she shakes her head. "Nah, not really. Toral goes diving for fish sometimes… that's pretty fun to watch."

Idrissa doesn't seem to mind the cool water. "Well.. I'm gona make us some poles." This said with a nod, as if agreeing to her thought. "An I'll teach you how to fish." This said with a grin over to her friend.

Soriana laughs, and nods. "Okay. I can give it a try… sounds fun. So long as we're careful about where we fish, so we don't go and catch bathing dragons by accident. Or dolphins."

Idrissa smiles and nods. "Course!.. An my pa taught me how not to hurt no dolphins." Though the htought of bathing dragons makes her ponder it. "Could.. a little hook hurt a dragon?" This questioned while she peers at Soriana.

Soriana pauses a moment to give the question serious consideration. "Prob'ly not," she finally answers, "But the line might, if it got wrapped around part of a wing or something. The weyrlingmaster was talking a lot about how fragile wings are… so it's better not to risk it."

Idrissa never thought of that. "You have a point.." She ponders this while letting a wave crash against her legs. "Alright.. So forget that idea." This said with a joking tone. "Unless we do it /farfarfar/ away from any bathing dragons!" The last thing she would want to do is hurt a dragon.

Soriana hehs. "Nah, we can do it. Just gotta be careful. Like… off the far edge of the dock would be okay, I bet. There's ships that come and go there, so the dragons'd stay out of the way. They mostly bathe in close to shore, anyhow…"

Idrissa smiles and nods. "Alright.. I'll fix us up some poles then." She offers pondering this a few moments before catching sight of something shiny in the water. "Hey.. what's that." Is offered while she moves off to check it out, expecting Soriana to follow. A wave pulls tit back out and when it comes back its in a different spot. An so begins the 'try to get the shiney object before the waves take it too far away' game!

Soriana grins, peering over that way and splashing around in the waves. A fun way to spend an afternoon, this!
