Xanadu Weyr - Caverns

A massive cavern in it's own right, this one has been skillfully adapted for human habitation. The high ceilings have been painted a light, soft ivory, as are the walls where numerous tapestries hang to provide brilliant color and insulation from the stone. The floor has been left in its natural state, pale pink granite speckled through with glittering mica and dark flecks of basalt, leveled carefully but kept sufficiently rough to avoid slips.

The cavern itself is loosely divided into areas, each one set up to be suitable for some segment of the Weyr's population. The most frequently occupied area, however, is the one near the Kitchens where tables of varying sizes provide a place to sit down and eat or chat and a buffet of consumables is almost always kept stocked. Its plain that on most days, this area wouldn't accommodate anywhere near the full population of the Weyr and equally plain that on such occasions when a formal meal is laid out, tables are appropriated from all the other areas.

A big fireplace is set into the wall near the Kitchens as well, several comfortable chairs nearby providing haunts for elderly residents or riders who like a good view of all that happens. Rugs cover the floor in strategic spots, all of them abstract or geometric in design and most in the softly neutral colors of undyed wool.

Exits lead off in all directions, a big archway the largest and that leading outside. Shallow stairs to the west lead to the offices and administration area while tunnels to the east lead to the infirmary, kitchen and resident's quarters. Southwards, a sloping tunnel leads down to the hot springs and southwest is a wide tunnel, carefully roped off to avoid accidents.

The day is only starting for some in the Weyr. In the case of Bryant and a brown firelizard swooping into the cavern overhead, it's already been in progress for hours. If the pair's appearance is any evidence. Passing the tables where klah is set out, the crafter's shoulder bag is first set nearby on an empty table with lots of room with a look towards Tumbler. Stay here and watch these, will you?" A quizzical chirp is given as the brown backwings onto the table, looking at him. Hrm. Running a hand through his hair, he shrugs and turns back towards the location of the aforementioned klah and meatrolls. "..At least you haven't run off with any parts." Muttered, the firelizard is watching the bag - for all of two seconds before hopping onto to back of the nearest chair.

Sarcon stumbles into the Caverns, hair all messed up and his gaze concentrating on the room. Look around and then sighs and then agrees that it's safe to enter. He watches Bryant working but only passes him up to get to the Klah.

Chirp. That's Tumbler watching the newest arrival with another tilt of his head, dangerously leaning to one side. He's the curious one. Bryant is the one pouring a mug of klah for himself, returning the pitcher just as Sarcon approaches the table. Instead of returning it to its warming place, he sets it on the table between them. "Morning. You look how I wish I could feel right now," he notes with the trace hints of a grin before seeking out a plate and a few meatrolls.

Sarcon looks up to the man and then looks him up and down. "Yeah…sure." He pours himself some klah and seems to keep loooking behind himself as if something might get him. But every time seems more like a nervous reaction, San flies from his shoulder to land on the table and look for something to eat…meat, cake, bugs, anything.

"Well, you do." Managing the plate in one hand and the mug in the other, Bryant glances sideways before turning back in the direction of his gear and materials. "Say, maybe you can help me with something." Said only after the meatrolls are placed onto the table, the brown firelizard recovers from his leaning perch to hop onto the table. Setting into the plate, the crafter reaches for one of the rolls before they end up demolished. "By the way, the name's Bryant. Journeyman TechCrafter."

"Sar..Sarnie..Sarnies the name." He says very cautiously of the stranger. "What do you need, I can't stay long." He once again glances over behind his back, and sighs in relief. "Now what was it?"

"Have you been a part of any of the power outages? Or been in the affected areas during that time?" Leaning back against the table, one hand reaches for a notebook and a pen while taking another sip of klah carefully. "Did you smell anything, did the lights flicker or simply go out all at once," Bryant thinks to ask almost as an afterthought.

Sarcon looks around and then looks back at him. "What do you mean part of them, I didn't cause them, I couldn't have…I was somewhere else all together." He says sipping his Klah and then tries to relax. "How would I know I wasn't anywhere near the power relays yesterday."

Bryant shakes his head, "No, no. That's not what I meant. I mean were you there? I'm not accusing anyone of anything." Said more firmly than the first, he finally takes a seat and opens the notebook for a few extra notes to be jotted. "I need to know if the power went off all at once or if it flickered. The first solar relays look to be fine. I'm checking the other location later before handling the rest of the power grid."

Sarcon grabs his neck with his hand and pulls on it. "So when did they go off?" He raises an eyebrow, then taking another sip of his Klah. Then takes a meatroll and bites into it.

"They're random, from the other reports that I've been given." And that's the one thing which seems to annoy Bryant as he makes a few notes in the margin before closing the notes. "And since I can't figure out what might be the problem, I need to meet with the new wingleader. Tay, I think. Maybe she has some techcrafters in her wing that I can talk with. Until then, there may be more outages."

Sarcon looks at Bryant and seeing he's no threat says. "Well I can't say I was here yesterday when they went off but I have seen them flickering a little. Now I don't know how much that will help, but there you go.

"It helps." Said simply, Bryant opens the same page with the pen in hand to jot down the information given. "It tells me that the fuses are not burnt out, but rather trying to complete the circuit. So, there's likely one small problem rather than say, a full burnout at one of the power stations. It's just a matter of which one." Said thoughtfully, the notes are picked up and gathered after he finishes the last bit of klah. "I'll still have to go and take a look at each location to be sure." Meanwhile, Tumbler still has a half plate worth of meatrolls. Chirping as a sated little lizard, he curls up into a small ball of wings. Pushing the rolls in the young man's direction, he asks, "Do you want the rest for your lizard? I need to start hiking towards the next relay if I can't find someone willing to give me a ride."

Sarcon nods but by the time he looks to see if San is in agreement, the little blue is head deep in the food. "Took it upon himself to help you. I did you a favor, now do me one." He says looking at the man, a strange expression on his face.

While gathering his things and the lizard who has curled up into such a tiny space, Bryant had just finished depositing his things into the satchel. Looking towards Sarcon, he refrains from pulling the shoulder strap over one shoulder, long enough to ask, "What do you want to ask?" Reserved and holding back, he's also watching the pair hesitantly.

"Don't tell anyone you saw me." Sarcon says a bit cautiously. "It's a simple favor, just forget you ever saw me."

Odd request. But it's one that Bryant can grant, relaxing as Tumbler rolls once to unfurl his wings and take flight to his companion's shoulder. "Alright." The confusion shows across his face, but accepts it with a single shrug of his shoulders. "Thanks for the information, Sarnie. Let me know if you -do- see something out of the ordinary about this? I can't rule out anything at this point."

Sarcon looks over and then nods. "Thanks." He says then moves out toward the clearing, lizard on his shoulder, meatroll in hand.
