Of Paperwork and Eggs

Xanadu Weyr - Observation Level

Dark blue seats form a semi-circle around the sands below, the lowest row separating from the sands themselves by merely a railing. The seats climb upwards, each row a bit higher then the previous, and they are broken up into sections by 3 sets of staircases. Lights are evenly spaced along the outer wall, lighting the seats and the sands easily, though they tend to be dimmed unless a major event is taking place. A large balcony looms overhead, darkening some of the seats, providing a place for observers of the draconic kind to watch without obstructing the view for others.
When one looks over the railing, the oddly hued sand below can be seen easily, the circle-shaped area of the sands spread out to the far walls, the sand itself a unique mixture of red and white grains.

X'hil is up in the galleries, with a bit of wood laying across his lap, and several piles of paperwork. He's muttering to himself as he works, and glancing out to the sands every now and then. The man's bronze, Kinseth, is down on the sands, up against the rear wall, and sleeping.

Someone had said to Karashi something about taking a look at the eggs, so here she was. This was the first time Karashi has seen Dragon eggs and so she was rather nervous as she entered the galleries hoping that she could see the eggs before her break was up. As she walks in she notices a man sitting down, no a rider she realises as she gets closer. He has what looks to be paperwork on a board on his lap, Karashi shuddered with the thought, she always hated paperwork, finding it rather tedious for her overactive mind. Fearing she had disturbed him Karashi bows to the man and appologises "Oh I'm sorry.. I didn't think anyone would be here. If I'm bothering you I can leave"

X'hil doesn't notice Karashi's entrance at first, muttering something about needy holders as he skims the papers in front of him. The woman's apology does reach him, and he raises his head with a curious blink. "Oh. Hello. You're not bothering me, no, just paperwork. Come, sit down." he encourages, shifting the board and paperwork to a chair on his other side. Any excuse for a break. "You new to the Weyr?" he asks, with a blink. He doesn't /recognise/ her, but it's impossible to know everyone in a Weyr.

Karashi smiles back at him, glad she has not disturbed him. She comes to sit beside him and takes a look at the sands before she says anything "woah" the awe struck words slide from her lips before she can stop them, the sight before her amazes her like nothing she had ever seen before. Karashi quickly turns back to him at his question her smile never leaves her face as she does, still smiling she answers him. "I am. I'm Karashi, Journeywoman Healer. I was just assigned her recently"

X'hil chuckles softly at Karashi's reaction to the sands. "Good sized pair of clutches, aren't they?" he murmurs, proud for his bronze. At the woman's introduction, he nods. "Ah, see, if you'd been here longer, I'd /definitely/ know you. Spent far too much time in the infirmary in the past turn… /Far/ too much." He shifts in his chair a little, and grimaces. "Er, I'm X'hil, rider to Kinseth down there." He nods to the sleeping bronze on the sands, and then there's a pause, and he adds, "Weyrsecond." Hence, paperwork. Lots and lots of paperwork.

Shock flashes across Karashi's face "There's two clutches?" she'd only ever once heard of two queens clutching together never did she think she would acctually see it. Her smile turned sympathetic, she knew what it was like to spend too much time in the infirmary.. she worked in one after all.. she enjoys it though and to her that was all that matters. "Explains the paperwork..I dread doing mine especially when it comes to updating charts." she mused, yes she did indeed dislike paperwork. Very much so.

X'hil chuckles slightly, and nods. "Two clutches." he confirms, pointing to the two clutches, eggs set slightly apart. "The eight over there are Seryth and Kinseth's, and the seven over there are Solarith and Saenkarith's. Fifteen all up, a good number." Yep. He shoots a glance to the paperwork, and snorts. "Yeah. Not sure I was really aware of what I was getting into. But I wanted a distraction, and paperwork certainly fits the bill." It's quite possible he wasn't really thinking when he accepted the knot, though pride dictates that he not return it.

Karashi's attention is fully on X'hil and the clutches as he points them out to her "Oh they're both beautiful. Kinseth must be proud of such a lovely clutch" awe at seeing her first clutch no, clutches of eggs clear on her face her smile broadens only the more at the sight of them. It becomes sympathetic again at the mention of paperwork, yes she dearly did hate it. "Certainly does. I find if I want to be alone paperwork certainly helps keep it that way" on many occasion has Karashi used the excuse of paperwork to get herself some valuable time alone.

X'hil chuckles softly, and glances to Kinseth. "Ah, well, if he were awake right now, I'm sure Kinseth would be very pleased to hear you say that. He's /nothing/ if not proud!" And, the man has to admit, he's a little proud too. There's another glance at the paperwork at Karashi's comment about paperwork being good for finding time alone, and then the man turns to grin at the healer. "It's good for that, sure. No-one wants to be around, for fear of being roped in to help." There's a chuckle then, and he admits, "Usually I just say that Kinseth needs me, if I want to get away to myself for a bit. Who's going to argue with him?" Kinseth is rather large, even for a bronze.

Karashi laughed softly "Yes.. but paperwork is the only excuse I have for being alone and even that doesn't always work" she looks over at the paperwork beside him, feeling a little sorry he has so much to do. She grins back though and finds herself speaking before she had fully thought it through "If you want some help I'm more than willing.. I.. If you want some help that is?" Karashi was always more than willing to volunteer with anything and everything that needs doing, it was just who she was.

X'hil chuckles, and shakes his head, patting the board of paperwork idly. "It'll keep." is all he says. "It's not like I've got much else to do, with Kinseth almost never leaving the sands." he points out, with a slight grimace at the sleeping bronze. "He's such a protective clutch sire, he won't even sleep unless I'm here to watch for him." Never mind that there are three other dragons on the sands that could easily keep watch.

"I think it's wonderful. It would be nice to have something I could put the same amount of trust in." Karashi gets something of a witful look on her face as she tries to comprehend that kind of trust and bond. She fails though and her attention was brought back to X'hil and the eggs, she leans back into her seat and sighs. "Everyone kept telling me to go see the eggs when I could.. but now that I'm here I don't know what to do" she muses softly, it was true.. she was here.. now what. other than admire the eggs of course.

X'hil chuckles, and shakes his head. "Not much to do really. Eggs are eggs." he notes, with a shrug. "I was born in the Weyr, seen so many eggs myself, but I can never understand the fascination. Even /Kinseth/ is obsessed with them, when they're his own." The board of paperwork is eyed, and he reluctantly pulls it back on to his lap, though he doesn't start working on it quite yet. "But I'll tell Kinseth you stopped by, when he wakes. He'll be happy to hear that." Yep.

When he pulls the paperwork onto his lap again she smiles at him, yes duty calls indeed. "I should go myself.. Breaks almost over, they'll be wanting me back.. It was nice meeting you. I'll be sure to say hi if I ever see you" with a wave she stood and half skips half walks from the galleries with a rather cheerful grin on her face, as she hums a cheerful song.
