Not Gonna Push It

Xanadu Weyr - Caverns
A massive cavern in it's own right, this one has been skillfully adapted for human habitation. The high ceilings have been painted a light, soft ivory, as are the walls where numerous tapestries hang to provide brilliant color and insulation from the stone. The floor has been left in its natural state, pale pink granite speckled through with glittering mica and dark flecks of basalt, leveled carefully but kept sufficiently rough to avoid slips.
The cavern itself is loosely divided into areas, each one set up to be suitable for some segment of the Weyr's population. The most frequently occupied area, however, is the one near the Kitchens where tables of varying sizes provide a place to sit down and eat or chat and a buffet of consumables is almost always kept stocked. Its plain that on most days, this area wouldn't accommodate anywhere near the full population of the Weyr and equally plain that on such occasions when a formal meal is laid out, tables are appropriated from all the other areas.
A big fireplace is set into the wall near the Kitchens as well, several comfortable chairs nearby providing haunts for elderly residents or riders who like a good view of all that happens. Rugs cover the floor in strategic spots, all of them abstract or geometric in design and most in the softly neutral colors of undyed wool.

Fresh snow has fallen over Xanadu, and while it is later afternoon there is still areas of sparkly white snow that hasn't been touched by both people and dragons from the looks of it. Idrissa managed to get away for a bite to eat, she is just wandering towards the food tables after getting all the snow off of herself so she wouldn't go tracking it across the whole cavern, she really would rather not get yelled at after all.

The mud crawl of the obstacle course has become the snow crawl! It's so much… not actually any better. What's the word for how it is now? Oh, right. Colder. It's so much colder. That would be why Soriana went for a hot bath at her soonest opportunity, and why she's now emerging from the hot springs in clean clothes and with her short hair wet. Hey, at least it dries faster now! If she goes to grab some food, it might even be dry by the time she leaves the caverns, and not turn into ice on the way back to the barracks.

Idrissa hadn't made it back to the obstacle course just yet, she is planning on it when Tahryth wakes up though. For now, food is to be found! She picks up a mug fills it with hot cider, and then moves on to pick up a plate and get some hot food stuffs on it. She turns and looks to Soriana and blinks before she smiles. "Hey Soriana. How goes?"

Food is definitely food. Chopped meat and- no. That's Luraoth food. This here is Soriana food! Like, say… okay, yes, roast wherry and tuber hash still counts as Soriana food. Details. She looks up at Idrissa. "Oh. Hey." She smiles, slightly belatedly, then turns back to grab herself a bit more food. "Managed to get away, huh?" Obviously.

Idrissa has found the roast wherry, tuber mash and a few buttery buns, maybe a cheesey one as well is on her plate. "Yeah for the moment anyway. Tahryth is asleep, so I can escape to get something to eat." Which is well obvious. She moves on towards a table and sits down carrying the plate and mug with her. "How you been?" They haven't really talked in a while really.

So obvious. Soriana's smile is rather lopsided as she looks back to Idrissa, and nods, then detours to pick herself up a mug of klah. More like a dregs of klah, really. It's time to make a fresh pot. Anyway. She comes back to the table and sits down next to Idrissa. "Oh, busy," Soriana says with a shrug. "You know how it is." Her mug is lifted to take a sip, and she stops to give it a dubious look. Definitely not the best klah she's ever had.

Idrissa peers at Soriana, well mostly the mug she has hold of. "I thought it smelled old, reason why I went with the hot cider." She shakes her head a moment at the thought while picking up a fork and munches on a bit of the wherry. "You looking forward to the lesson later?"

"Hrn," Soriana says on the matter of the klah. But cider won't keep her awake, you see! Which is why, after giving it a glare to shape up and fly right… she has another sip. Nope, no better the second time around, but she deals. "The lesson…? Oh. I guess." She shrugs. "I mean, I dunno if it's going to be anything new." For her, anyhow. "What about you?"

Idrissa would like to have klah but doesn't like the bitter taste after it has sat there forever. "Well ya" There is a pause and she peers at Soriana curiously. "You'll be the teacher's pet?" This said with a playful grin. "Ya I am, curious so learn stuff. Perhaps see what things are close to being that I already know but on a dragon and so forth."

"Hah. I hope not," Soriana says with a shake of her head, then takes a few moments to attend to the serious business of getting the food into the her before smiling. "It should be interesting, though." Another sip of the not-so-tasty klah. This time she doesn't even make a face! You sure can get used to things. "So how have you and Tahryth been doing?"

Idrissa smiles and nods while munching on a few bites of food. "Ya, pretty much what I'm thinking." She glances to Soriana. "We've been good. Tahryth got to meet Ers'lan last night, that was amusing." For a moment she grins at the thought and she shakes her head. "She gave him a sea shell."

"Yeah?" Soriana says, and grins. "That does sound fun. Is she getting better about that whole not knocking people over thing?" She has another sip of klah, then hehs. "Well, seashells do sound like an improvement there."

Idrissa ponders that and coughs a moment. "Well she didn't know Lan over, so that should be a good thing. She did lick him though." She taps her cheek. "Right across the cheek and gave him a cowlick in his hair even."

Soriana giggles, and then triiiies to put on a serious face. "I suppose you'd better work on her manners… heh." Nope. Back to the amused grin it is! Serious is overrated anyhow. Well, at least so long as… "He didn't mind, did he?"

Idrissa chuckles softly and nods. "Yes well. I'm working on it. She also will talk to whomever she likes, whenever she likes. I don't think everyone is going to enjoy having her pop into their minds." She shrugs a bit and then glances to Soriana and smiles. "Lan was fine with it. Thought it was amusing really. He just warned me to not let her go lick someone like.. V'dim."

Soriana hehs, and nods. "Yeah, that too." She takes another bite, and grins. "Shards, imagine if she like… did that to Jarse." Would that be hilarious or terrible? Answer: BOTH! Soriana's grin lasts a moment, then her expression grows more serious. Speaking of… "He hasn't given you any more trouble, has he?"

Idrissa makes a face at the thought of Tahryth licking Jarse, to the point she is left coughing a moment on a bite of food. "Don't make me think of that. Scarey thought! No, he hasn't given me anymore trouble. I haven't seen him since that day actually." Which she is fine with.

The smile returns, and Soriana nods. "Good." So's having lunch, and her plate is just about empty by this point. "I haven't heard anything about it either." … yet. Sori has another sip of klah, and she hesitates for a moment or three before asking, "So… how are things with Ka'el?"

Idrissa nods and smiles at that. "Well hopfully nothing will come of it. Maybe he hasn't had the nerve to give V'dim the letter?" Well it is possible. She chews on the last bite of food and glances to Soriana at the question. For a moment she ponders what to say, a shrug is seen while she takes hold of her mug to peer into it. "I don't know… He didn't want to talk to me the other night about anything." She's quiet for a moment, her eyes close. "Ers'lan said that Ka'el went to him and asked Lan to come see me, as if there was something wrong with me."

Soriana shrugs. "I dunno," she says on the matter of Jarse and that letter. She does not know the workings of his mind! She is ever so grateful for this fact. Not that she generally thinks about it, but now that she does… yeah. So very grateful. And then… there's quiet time, and she watches Idrissa through it with a small frown growing. Quiet is not exactly a good sign. Hurm. "Ka'el did?" she asks after hearing Idrissa. "Asked Ers'lan, I mean." Because Ka'el not talking, well, that part's easier to believe. "He was probably worried about you. Like… y'know. And he couldn't do it himself, because… well, it's hard, being weyrlings. You can't… do stuff. So it's awkward, sometimes, getting… too close."

"Soriana, he acts as if I'm not even there." Idrissa says while letting her fingers slide across her mug a moment. "I get that it is awkward, I understand that things are different. It just feels like something else is going on, beside him having a dragon in his head now." She ponders what to say, her fingers tapping against the mug a moment before a shrug is seen. "Yeah he asked Lan to speak with me. I don't know anymore. I'm just not going to push it, if he wants to talk to me then he can find me to do the talking."

Soriana frowns, leaning back and glancing down at her plate, then looking up to Idrissa again. "…I dunno. Maybe…" But there she trails off, because this experience Idrissa is describing of not being there? Yeah, that one is kind of confusing Soriana. "I dunno. I mean… the talk with Lan was good, right?" Please? Can there at least be that from it? Soriana looks hopeful for a moment, then gives her head a little shake. "So you're just going to… what, leave it?"

Idrissa shrugs a moment and lets her gaze drift off a moment. "What am I suppose to do? Keep pushing until I make him mad and then what? I have no clue what could happen." It isn't like she wants to just leave it like this, not talking to Ka'el is bothering her more then she would like to admit. "Yeah the talk with Lan was good. I mean he didn't have to save me from some feline for once." A slight smirk seen.

"…and tell him you aren't happy and he'd better shape up or else?" Soriana suggests with a raised eyebrow. "Ka'el wouldn't hurt you, doesn't matter how mad he was." Her tone is one of certainty, and then some of the firmness fades as she sighs. "What do you want? I mean, with him. All I know is what I want, and…" That's different. Or at least, Soriana's coming to think it may be.

Idrissa shakes her head and glances over. "I know Ka'el wouldn't hurt me. That's not what I meant Soriana. I just think if I keep pushing him to talk, keep poking that I'll push him away for good or something." At the questions she pauses, pondering and eyes the table. "I want things to work out, I want him happy like before but I don't think that is going to happen at this rate." There is a pause while she looks to Soriana. "What do you want? I mean… You're sorta in the same boat with him to some degree. I know you guys talk and all."

Well, at least Idrissa knows Ka'el wouldn't hurt her. Soriana gives a small nod for that, but the satisfaction is brief, and as Idrissa continues, Sori's expression becomes more one of puzzlement. She's quiet for a bit, thinking about before, trying to work things through, and then she looks back to Idrissa. "Sure, we talk." Soriana frowns. "It's just, that's all we can do right now. Talk about stuff. We can't even kiss or anything."

Idrissa peers at Soriana curiously. "Ya I know about the kissing and stuff not being allowed. That's not even what I'm talking about." None of this has been over any of that, just the simple fact that Ka'el doesn't want to talk to her is what bothers Rissa. A shrug is seen now and she glances off towards the doors quietly. "Lan thinks I should just let Ka'el come to me when he wants to talk, so that what I plan on doing now."

"…oh." Soriana shuts her mouth, because the kissing and stuff? Yeah, that's totally what she was talking about. And Idrissa apparently… wasn't. Judging from her expression, Soriana's trying to figure this out, but she's kind of failing and falling into silence instead. The silence lingers, until she just can't help herself. "…what if he doesn't?"

Idrissa knows she isn't suppose to think about such things, not that it hasn't crossed her mind, well maybe it has crossed her mind more than a few times. "Then I guess there is no 'us' anymore." Her words are quiet, a frown seen as if she wants to say more but nothing else comes. She eyes that mug as if there was something very important within it.

Soriana watches Idrissa consideringly, like she's trying to figure out what's going on inside the other girl's head. Supposed to or not, some thoughts are inescapable. That's the thing about thoughts. They have a way of sneaking in when you're not paying attention. It's what makes them different than actions. And then… there's inactions. Soriana's frown deepens. "How… you can't just keep yourself waiting, and then…" Well, obviously Idrissa can, but. "What are you waiting for? I mean… when will you know?"

"I don't /want/ it to end Soriana. Ka'el's the only guy I've ever been close to, only guy I've ever cared about and…" Loved, not that Idrissa says that. Her eyes close tightly for a few moments. Her fingers slowly slide across the mug. "I just don't know what to do Soriana. Just have to see what happens. If I push to hard I don't want to make things worse, but if I don't push any it may be just as bad." Like being stuck between a rock and a hard place with no place to turn.

Soriana sighs, and her gaze drops from Idrissa because… well, she doesn't really want to watch anymore. Because… she'd push, but she can't make Idrissa push. This is Idrissa's problem, not hers. "So… you're going to wait," she says quietly, still with that frown. She doesn't like it, but it's not her choice. It's just… "Waiting sucks."

Idrissa isn't Soriana though, she doesn't push things, doesn't poke at things she just lets things go and picks up the pieces afterwards and tries to fix them. Which to date has never worked in her favor, one would think she'd just learn. "For now, yeah." This said quietly. "Sucks a lot." Yet she is going to wait.

Soriana doesn't like this answer. She frowns at Idrissa. She frowns at her plate (it's empty). She frowns at her mug of klah (it doesn't taste good). She just generally frowns, and she waits for a moment, a very small one, before pushing back her chair abruptly and picking up that plate and mug. "I'm going to get another drink. You want anything?"

Idrissa is quiet for a few moments before a soft breath escapes her. "No.. I got to get back to Tahryth. I promised to talk her out and all when she woke up." Which the young green has it seems. "I'll see you around Soriana." This said, plate and mug in hand while she takes them to be bin and is then off heading back to the barracks.

"All right," Soriana says, despite the fact that it really isn't actually all right. But, well… sigh. "See you," she says to Idrissa, and heads over to drop off her plate and refill her mug with more of that bitter klah. Still no fresh pot. She drinks it anyway, not bothering to go back to her seat but just… standing there, and then she makes her own way out. Luraoth's not awake yet, but she'll be stirring soon enough.
