Healer-Approved Pranks

Xanadu Weyr - Caverns
A massive cavern in its own right, this one has been skillfully adapted for human habitation. The high ceilings have been painted a light, soft ivory, as have walls hung with numerous tapestries that provide brilliant color and insulation from the stone. The floor has been left in its natural state, pale pink granite speckled through with glittering mica and dark flecks of basalt. The stone is carefully leveled but kept sufficiently rough to avoid slips.

The cavern itself is loosely divided into areas, each one set up to be suitable for some segment of the Weyr's population. The most frequently occupied area is the one near the Kitchens, where tables of varying sizes provide a place to sit down and eat or chat and a buffet of consumables is almost always kept stocked. It's plain that on most days, this area wouldn't accommodate anywhere near the full population of the Weyr, instead feeding people in shifts as they come off duty. On occasions when a formal meal is laid out, tables are borrowed from all the other areas.

There's also a big fireplace set into the western wall, several comfortable chairs nearby providing haunts for elderly residents or riders who like a good view of all that happens. Rugs cover the floor in strategic spots, all of them abstract or geometric in design and most in the softly neutral colors of undyed wool.

Exits lead off in all directions, the largest an archway to the northeast that leads outside. Near it there's an alcove with hooks for coats and shelves for muddy boots. A tunnel to the east goes to the infirmary, and a set of stairs just a little south of that lead up to the offices and administration area. To the south, a long and sloping tunnel leads down to the hot springs. The kitchen is off to the southwest, while the residents' quarters are reached by tunnels going west, deeper into the cliff.

Well Kelani has been laid up with a cold for a few days, making her miss out on the trips to the Yokohoma though she did not seem to be upset about it. She is now sitting near the hearth with several jars and bottles with various coloured items in them. Six of them have what looks like salts in them, three of which have been coloured so far. The other jars hold various coloured herb mixtures. Currently she is working on making a thick bit of yellow goop that is being added to one of the salt containers.

"That looks terrible," declares Sephany, who drops herself unceremoniously into a seat beside Kelani, grey eyes on her jars and bottles of unknown contents. "Please tell me you're not going to be ingesting any of… that?" and there's a little shudder for the thick yellow goop.

Kelani closes the lid of the jar and shakes the dollop of yellow goop around the salt quite vigorously. She looks up at Sephany and shakes her head, "No no. Its for the glitter challenge. It is just herb dyed salts so won't cause any medical issues like the metallic and plastic shards others use." Well it may be surprising enough she would get involved in the 'glitter challenge' but that she is doing so in a healerly fashion? Not at all surprising. She motions to the various jars, "So once they dry, the get mixed all together and voila…glitter!"

Blink-blink. And then Sephany is cracking up, laughing herself to tears because, "Kelani! Only you would make sure a prank was safe for the human body!" But after a few seconds of giggling, she's coming down enough to actually look inquisitively at the various jars of 'glitter'. "How interesting!" and she reaches out as though to turn one of them, perhaps for a better look. "Though I have to say… I'm a bit surprised you're participating in this. I mean… what if you end up going back to Half Moon. This is your weyrleader, you know?" But oh, that devious glint in her grey eyes! It definitely does not display disapproval.

"Well mostly safe. The amount used to dye the salts is safe, but if they ate it straight it could cause heart issues for those that don't have them." Kelani says as she points to the yellow, "Just had the best yellow really." She says with a nod and looks to the Red and blue ones already made. "Redwort for the red and some blueberries for the blue. Will use sage for the grin, maybe with a tincture of blue to brighten it up." She says with a nod as she looks over her 'glitter' with a serious look. She cants her gaze up to Sephany with a curious look. "Well everyone is telling me I need to let loose a little …and they say he is in it and all. Figure if nothing else I can practice my herb craft in the process." She says with a shrug. "So how are you doing?"

"You're giving off mad-scientist vibes," decides the weaver, in a voice that says 'I like it'. Nimble fingers turn the jar around as Sephany eyeballs the colored salt. "I don't think anyone is going to be eating it. Faranth, I hope not. I certainly wouldn't." Another bout of soft, short-lived laughter. "Yeah but… to glitter-bomb the Weyrleader of Half Moon?" She grins at Kelani, releasing the jar and dropping her elbows to the table instead, one hand providing a prop for her chin. "I'm not sure that's what they had in mind when they said to 'loosen up'. I think it was more of a… well… more like you work too hard. And this," she casts her gaze at the jars in lieu of pointing, "is still work." Yeah. Definitely still 'work', as evidenced by that 'practice my herb craft'. "I'm pretty sure you just confessed to disguising work as mischief." Grin. "I'm alright. Feeling pretty good, with the robes out of my hands. Just hope most of the candidates are putting in the effort to finish theirs." Cue squinty-eyed look at Kelani. "How is YOUR robe?"

"I mean the blueberry salt would probably be alright, but the redwort?" Kelani crinkles her nose and shakes the red salt around in its jar to loosen it and ensure its drying. "Well exactly…I don't think anyone would believe it…I just got to figure out how to deliver it. I thought of using Chlora but not sure she would make it there or dump it on the right person." She cants her head, "Any thoughts?" There is a sigh at the commentary, "But its interesting work…surely you have parts of your craft you do for fun?" She asks before nodding to the woman, "All done. Nothing like a cold to give you idle hands and much time to complete such tasks in. I think most…are going ok with theirs. There is that boy from Igen though…I don't think he has touched his."

"If by 'alright' you mean 'won't make you gag' then maybe? But I can't see blueberries and salt being a new culinary combination." But Sephany is not a cook, either, so who knows? A shake of her head in feigned admonishment for the healer-candidate. "Oh sure. There are quite a few aspects of my craft that I love. But I also know how to have fun outside of my craft. That's called having a life," she teases Kelani. "I love to draw, and I love to read. I love to dance, though probably not nearly as much as Risali does." She reaches out with one finger, moving to poke her in the shoulder if she doesn't appear to object too much. "What do you enjoy outside of healing? Hm?" It's an honest inquiry, even if it comes as a playful bit of teasing between friends. As for the state of her robe? "Good! I'm glad to hear it. I made sure Valerian's was done, so at least two of you will look decent on the Sands, because I am done sewing those things." Poor Igen boy. No help will be coming from the weaver-girl.

R'az Comes in with a folder of papers under his arm and he heads over to get a mug of klah and a meatroll along with some mashed tubers. He looks around for a seat and smiles brightly as he spots the pair of ladies, "Good evening mind if I join you." He looks at the jars of salt, "Oh what are you doing with the salt?" He asks, "Can I have some?"

"I have fun!" Kelani declares squaring her shoulders as she looks to the weaver, "I go swimming..well back at Halfmoon I did..and um Running with Sava..and I read." She declares before lowering her voice a bit, "And I sing and play piano when I can and I like to dance too. I was raised at Harper hall..I like doing harpery things sometimes." But clearly mostly as a private thing. "Da sends me pieces to work on now and again." She comments and looks up to the bronzerider, "Oh no, they wouldn't be very palatable. It…is for a project." She says with a firm nod and gets to working on the purple. A bit of of the blue goop and red goop being mixed together and a dollop into a jar of salts and another vigourous shaking once the lid is closed.

The look that lands on R'az by way of the weaver apprentice, is nothing short of rude. Incredulous, really. "Is that a legitimate question?" she asks, about wanting some of the salt. "Please, tell me you are joking…" because who would want to eat colored salt. "It could be poisoned for all you know." Huff-huff. Snort. Eyeroll. She's going to assume he was teasing. She lifts her chin from her hand and makes a quick gesture toward the free chair. "Feel free," follows the motion, and it's at least slightly warmer than the initial greeting had been. "Do you though?" questions Sephany, playfully. "Running? Running is not fun," she declares. "Swimming I will grant you. Swimming can be fun." And she already listed reading as her own favorite past-time, so no argument for that one. "I like to sing, also," she mentions with a bit of a smile. "Can't play any instrument, though." She tips her head back just slightly, lashes lowered as she peers at Kelani in a manner of assessment. "Mm. Ok. You have the beginnings of fun down. But I still think there is work to be done there. You need to learn to relax."

R'az ahs, "I'm sorry to hear that." He looks over to Sephany, "Well it could just be food coloring. I think it's an interesting way to liven up your food. So if it's not food coloring what is it that you are putting into it?" He asks as he looks at the salt and he starts to eat. "I can't sing worth a hill of beans, but I can keep a beat pretty well, I was always good on the drums in harper class."

Kelani can't help but smile at Sephany's response, "I am just practicing dying salts…but I wouldn't consider them…edible now unless you like the taste of redwort." She says motioning to the red one, "Or Tansy…" Motioning to the yellow one. She looks back to Sephany, "When you have a ball of black and white fluff chasing you down it can be fun." She says in defence. "My Da had hopes I might..see the light and go back to harper hall for some time. I enjoy those harpery things, but not as a profession, you know? My piano playing is apprentice level at best. Dancing though yeah, I really enjoy that." She admits again before motioning at the science experiement before her, "/This/ is relaxing for me." She says then gives a shrug and looks over to the bronzerider, "So How do you have fun?"

Sephany looks dubious, both for R'az's mention of food coloring ("What's food coloring?") and Kelani's assertion that running can be fun, provided there is a cuddly canine to chase you. "Well. I will let you do all the running, then. And all the sweating." She glances towards the bronzerider at the admission that he doesn't sing well. "I had a friend once threaten to teach me how to play the drums," and if that word choice doesn't demonstrate her sentiments on it, the next sentence clearly will. "I decided I ought to stick with singing. And weaving." The things she's actually good at. "I love dancing. My sisters and I would always dance together at the Gather's. I like the more… interpretive," read: CLUB, "Dancing too, but I think I like the Gather stuff better." She makes a slight face, playful in nature, at Kelani's insistence that she was relaxing by way of crafting. "If you say so," she says, waving the proverbial white-flag on the argument.

R'az listens as he eats, "Nah I think I'll pass I don't need my mouth puckered up." He smiles, "Dancing is fun with the right partner." He hmms, "Oh well I love to read and swim and hang out with my weyrmate and hang out with Laria and spend time with my children and of course my dragon. Pretty boring I'm sure. Oh I do love to fish although I haven't been in a while."

"Save yourself, and pass on the colored salt," is Sephany's advice. She slowly pushes herself up from the table, exhaling a longsuffering sigh that is definitely more sarcastic than anything else. At least there's enough of an amused gleam in her gaze to be playful, rather than rude. "Sounds like a perfectly acceptable way to spend your time," she tells R'az. "Relaxing with friends and family. It is something everyone should do." Including her, though we're not going to be discussing that, nope. "Alright, it's been… educational," with the salt-experiment happening, "but I do have some things I must finish before I can take my own break." The murmured, "Good luck," is for Kelani's glitter-bombing of R'hyn, and the "Enjoy your day," is for both, with a parting, "Say Hi to Dolth for me," given to R'az especially. Because she does remember him, and his dragon. "Bye!" and then she's gone, moving toward the crafters cavern with delicate but swift steps.
