Doom! er...Exams!

Xanadu Weyr - Infirmary

The infirmary here is intended for human care. It is regularly scrubbed spotless and smells of disinfectant, redwort and other herbs that are - if sometimes strong - preferable to the scents of sickness. Cots are lined up against one wall, with a set of curtains that can be pulled to give some privacy to the occupants of the cots if they so desire. They're mostly used for examinations of patients and the treatment of mild injuries that won't require long term care; near the back are some more private areas with folding dividers.

There's a number of cabinets that stand off against another wall, instruments and medications stored against when they will be needed, and a back room holds those supplies seldom required.

A desk with chair is set just off of the doorway to the caverns, meant for the healer to sit and catch up on record keeping after a long day's work or await patients. If things get too busy, the patients can do the waiting on a set of uncomfortable chairs set nearby. The other doorway comes directly from the clearing, wide enough for a team to carry a stretcher through.

Kelani is set in the infirmary for candidate health checks once more. So far they have proven relatively harmless, even the girl with the limp hasn't been kicked out. Oh some who have had them may tease about the horror they experienced, but is there truth in it? Kelani is standing at one of the counters with the dwindling stack of candidate files. A little tray of supplies next to her and the exam area at her back with a standing divider half obscuring an exam table. She looks fair bit more confident in this arena then she has during other activities that is for sure, though that confidence has been growing during candidacy.

Health check time. Zasheir was sent from thes tables to get it done. Because you know, he's been finding excuses to not do it. Swiping his hat from his head as he enters the infirmary, the beastcrafter takes a look around before stepping forwards once Kelani is spied near the counter. "Sooo… I think I am supposed to check in with you?" The words are spoken lightly with a wry grin given towards the healer turned candidate.

Jaune is later than Zasheir, he was holding up and holding up and hoping to show up and not have a line and get it done quick, but he shows up and there are *still* other candidates who need to get through and get looked at. And he gets nervous now. Awkwardly leaning from one foot to the other and an under the breath groan rumbling his chest. He'll look around Zasheir's shoulder to see if he managed to come to the infirmary when Kelani wasn't there. Alas.

Kelani looks up from her note writing at the voice of Zasheir and nods, "It's ok, you aren't the last and its nothing to be scared of. They just want to make sure its safe for you to be a rider." She shuffles through the stack and grabs out his file and motions toward the exam table. "Just your shirt off, but if uncomfortable, I can just lift it up to listen." She says casually as she cleans her hands and pulls on some gloves. She notes the arrival of Jaune and she waves a hand, "Just have a seat and I will be right with you." She offers in a cheerful healerly manner.

There comes a shrug from Zasheir as he steps forwards. "Shirt's not a problem." Laying his hat aside, he reaches down to pull the tunic off up over his head before taking a seat on the table. He'll watch her curiously, green eyes swinging over to Jaune. That wry grin is given to the other candidate before turning back to Kelani as she pulls on gloves. Nothing to worry about. Gulp.

Jaune watches Kelani and Zasheir wander off with a critical eye. Yes, removal of clothing was thought of to happen, and hes already sweated though. He'll find a chair and settle into it, with a leg lifted and bent over the opposing leg. Foot-a-waggling.

Well at least she doesn't reach for lubricant as well. "So how have you been feeling? Any weakness, dizzy spells, nausea or the like?" Kelani asks as she gives him a visual look over, checking his skin and feeling his lymph nodes. A request for an open mouth and ah so she can look back his throat. She then gets a listening tube and places it to his chest over his heart, then over his lungs asking him to take a deep breath as she checks each lung feel. No needles in sight at least!

"Feeling fine. Nothing out of the ordinary?" Zasheir answers Kelani as she moves closer. He'll be wonderful once he finds no lubricant in hand. Whew! Breaths are taken as requested, and his mouth opened to show good teeth and no problems in his throat. The guy is as healthy as a… runner. Oh yeah, Beastcraft humor. At least he didn't say it aloud, right?

"Good to hear." Kelani says and marks her findings on the chart then turns back to him and extends her hands to him, "Can you grip my fingers with equal pressure?" And contines forth with other joint exams involving a little rubber hammer to check reflexes. The dark skinned healer seems to be quite efficient to the task, going over each area methodically. "Any questions or concerns?" She says as she is finishing up and motions towards his shirt to indicate he can put it back on.

Zasheir is all good, following the directions given at each turn. Lifting his hands from his lap, he'll grip her fingers, squeezing as she wishes. Curiously does he watch as she tests the joints with the rubber hammer, his legs jumping and swinging as they should. Picking up his shirt, he pulls it on, shaking his head as it appears through the neck, "Don't think so? I haven't had any issues, but promise if I do, I'll come let you know?"

"Thank you then for your attendance. I know can be a bit scary, but it is for a good reason." Kelani assures him as she removes the gloves and tosses them into the trash. "If you have any concerns you can come to me or any healer anytime. This..was for the Weyrlingmasters but otherwise it is confidential." She says and extends a hand as a farewell shake if he should take it before turning back to the files and writing a bit more before looking up to Jaune, "Your turn."

"I just don't care to see the healers. Nothing against you though, Kelani." Zasheir answers, laughing a little as he takes her hand and gives it a shake, "But I'd be the first to take one of my runners to the beastcrafter healer as soon as I think they need it." Just like your normal guy, right? "I'm curious though - could something actually keep you from standing?"

A daydream had managed to distract Jaune, and his head was cocked off to the side until he was spoken to and he starts up to his feet quick. "Oh…yeah…" He is headed towards Kelani now, but stops to stand with the three of them as they chatter. "Probably heart problems or something. Not being able to handle altitude? Something?" The guesses are apt enough.

Kelani can't help but smile at the comment, "One of my best friends won't step foot in the infirmary. Don't worry, I don't take it personally. It is not a fun place to be if you HAVE to be here." She cants her head to him as he mentions beastcraft, "I enjoyed shadowing them when I had chores in the stables. It was interesting to note the similarities and differences between human and animal health." Then Jaune is joining them in time for the BIG question. "Yeah, mostly that." She says in agreement to Jaune. "If its just a fear of heights its not so bad, but if people can't cope with the height physically that could be a problem and a sign of other health problems. It is not worth your or your dragon's life to go through it if you have a condition that won't handle the stress of being a rider. Remember if you die…your dragon will take themselves between. Some other physical problems as well..Though little Becca even with her limp should be fine, because she has shown she could cope with the rigors of it despite it."

"If you'd ever like to come to the stables, let me know. It's where I work." Zasheir makes the offer before listening to the pair, nodding his head, "I could see how that would be an issue, yeah. " And yet he blinks, "What would you do if the person was scared of heights though? And…. how do you find out if you are? I've never even been on a dragon before." Would suck to learn that later!

"I think eventually people just trust their dragons. Don't they become..like..one? Your dragon isn't going to be afraid of heights." Jaune shrugs his shoulders at his still uneducated guesses. This will be his first standing ever, so its not like he has been indoctrinated through classes for awhile yet.

He'll glance off towards Zasheir though, and ask the question even in front of the healer. "So. How was it? Pretty normal? She didn't hit you over the head with something or shock you or something?" He grins though, like he is probably joking. Probably.

"Well there are some breathing and meditative techniques to help with fears like that, but I would recommend going up with a rider before they hatch. Even some apprentices faint at the sight of blood, but learn to get past it or at least cope with it. "You could start perhaps with the clocktower? Some candidates have been going up there for a view of the area." She suggests before giving an uncertain nod, "I think it depends on the dragon from what I hear…"There is a little shrug before she moves through to the exam area again to collect Jaune's file. " I charge extra for shock therapy." Kelani responds completely deadpan as if she is being serious, though her lips quirk in a bit of a smile at the end.

"Clocktower. Got it. Haven't been up there yet." Been kept pretty busy in the stalbes with a herd of pregnant mares delivering recently. "I'll see if I can find a rider to take me up as well…" If he's scared of heights, then he'll just make do in the stables! As for Jaune's comment, he does seem to consider it as well. "They do seem fairly close." Riders and their dragons. The grin reappears upon his face as he hmms, "Fairly normal. Just watch out for that little rubber hammer of hers.."

Kelani places on a fresh set of gloves and proceeds to go through much the same procedure with Jaune. Shirt optional, get on the table. "Any health concerns we should know about?" She asks as she starts the physical exam. Again feeling lymph nodes, checking throat and listening to the heart and lungs. The Finishing much the same with the joint exam, making little hammer taps of each joint. There is a nod as she finishes and motions him to change again, "All good. You guys take care." She says with a cheery wave before she calls the next candidate into their doom!..exam. Just an exam!
