Xanadu Weyr - Candidate Barracks
A long, low ceilinged room opens off the entrance hall to the arena. One wall is slightly curved, set against the outer wall of the arena itself. Cots are set in two rows along the length of the room, each with its own small press at the foot for personal belongings. Wide windows are spaced along the outside wall, letting sunlight in, while other lights are available for the night time hours. It's always warm here when there are eggs on the sands, and candidates seldom need more than a light blanket.
Another gorgeous Summer morning at Xanadu and it seems Rabbit is on the loose again. The tiny terror of fur charges ahead of Kera, the AWLM chuckling at her little canine's antics. She looks among the cots then studies the clipboard in her hands a moment, making a couple of notes here and there as she makes her way along the rows.
Kelani came in late last night having finished up her shift in the Half Moon Infirmary with a couple of surprises even after her searching. There were still things to pack, pupsitting to arrange, messages to send before a bronze half moon rider brought her over. Still she is awake and dressed by time the AWLM and her furry terror zooms through, even if she looks a might tired. The dog though at least brightens her face up, "Oh you look like my girl.."
Rabbit hears the friendly voice and just has to scramble over to investigate. Kera walks down the row, leaving the canine to her own for a bit while she scans the cots. An approving nod as she makes her return trip and stops near her fellow Healer's cot, smirking as the fierce furball snuffles and tries to see what the girl's hands may have. "Hello again. Congratulations are in order. On two accounts from what I read in reports this morning."
Kelani is quite content to give the pup attention, already missing her own. There is a look up though as Kera joins them, "Yeah, it was a bit of a crazy day yesterday. As I was finishing up my Master stopped me and had me walk the tables right then and there. He said he had planned it for a sevenday away and well…it would be easier if I was already Journeyman." Kelani offers in explanation.
Kera smiles at the girl's fortunate turn of events and nods. "That explains the abrupt change in plans." Referring to the planned table walking a couple sevenday's from then. "Apprentice turned Journeywoman, turned Xanadu Candidate. Busy day for you." Kera wanders over to the board, and laughs "And looks like you'll be worked in gradually, with infirmary as your first day of chores. Hope you don't find it too overwhelming." The AWLM may be smirking a little. Rabbit makes little grunting hops, as she tries to jump up to Kelani, but her tiny litlte legs just don't have the umph for the task.
Kelani leans down to pick up the little fluffball and rises to standing holding her, "I left mine with a friend at Half moon..figure it would do him some good." She gives the fluffy head a little scratch as she walks over to the choreboard and it is with relief she notes the task to be done today. "That will be fine Ma'am. At least that is familiar to me."
Kera nods and tucks the clipboard under an arm and reaches over to ruffle Rabbit's ears a moment before looking the candidate over. "At least she's gonna be spoiled while you're here. And I don't see a reason why your friend can't bring your pup for visits during your freetime." A glance around the barracks as another victim is led in by another rider and settled. "Hmm, maybe you could give a little basic field treatment course for your fellow candidates sometime." Prove Kelani earned those new Journeyknots or something.
