Xanadu Weyr - Wanderin' Wherry Tavern(#8821RJM)
It is often whispered in the crowds that converge here, that a certain Weyrleader was asked what he wanted in the remodeling of the pub that was not so long ago given a refreshing. He muttered back over the rim of his ever-present mug, "I don't care what you do with the place, just so long as there is plenty of ale." With that in mind, cask after cask of ale lines the walls of the tavern, the remodeler's idea of a jest. As they age, the casks bring a real rustic atmosphere to the pub, along with the deeply wooden flavor that seems to be the theme throughout.
The lighting is dim, as it should be in all good pubs, and the tables and chairs are plentiful. A long mahogany bar, intricately carved with runner beasts, stands vigilant duty at the head of the bar, lined with stools for those patrons that seek the bartender's company.

There's been a slight relief to the summer heat as a light rain started to fall at late afternoon, and it continues to drizzle now as the sun sinks behind the horizon. Kale enters the tavern wearing a light hooded cloak, and he pauses at the entryway, glancing left and right. But no hands grab for him to try to toss him out, and thus he grins and continues in after giving his boots a few wipes as to not track in too much mud. He heads towards the bar and slides into one of the vacant stools, pushing back his hood and giving wet sleeves a shake.

Escaping the Rain and the crows of the Cavern, Garait enters in, pulling back the hood of his cloak. He wipes his feet good while glancing around and notices Kale sitting at the bar and moves towards an empty stool beside the smithcrafter. "Mind if I join you?"

Kale has not yet ordered anything to drink or eat for that matter, though he is eyeing the various kegs and mugs that are seen behind the bar itself. Hm. Maybe a fried something to eat. Something that he can't get in the caverns. Or at least, something that's not offered in the caverns tonight. A voice to one side of him turns his attention, and he glances towards Garait with a grin. "Hey. No, go ahead," he says, gesturing to the nearby stool. "I don't have any company joinin' me tonight, so I'll be glad for yours. Done milkin' for the day?" he asks with a hint of a playful tease in his tone.

Sitting on the stool, Garait nods and chuckles, "Yes done milking and stuff. Even learning a little bit of learning on the computer." He rolls his eye slightly at that and then glances over to the menu. "What about you? Done forging and working with metals?" He considers for a moment ant orders a few fish rolls and cold citrus juice.

"Computers?" Kale raises his brows a little. "Woah. That's pretty cool. Didn't think you beastcrafters would have much to do with computers. Though I can't really say I know everything that the craft does." He grins a bit and finally decides on fried tubers and a nice cold glass of water to order before he slightly turns his his seat to face Garait, leaning an elbow on the bartop. "Aye, I'm done for the day. Wasn't too bad of one. Rain kept us mostly inside, and we had classes. The book type. Not the hammering type." He wrinkles his nose, obviously not too big of a fan of book work!

Garait chuckles a little, "Yes, there were classes as well with books. We don't use a lot of computer stuff, but they are doing some lessons on the computer. At lest for some of us." It seems like he's one of those 'lucky' ones. "It's more entering data about the animals and breeding, but they are working with the techcraft and those who know about computers to show where wild herdbeasts are and the areas they roam in. For various reasons you know." The young Beastcrafter sighs then, obviously a long day with that and his order arrives. He nods and gives his thanks before glancing at Kale, waiting a moment to eat.

"Put a computer in front've me and I wouldn't know the first thing to do," admits Kale, chuckling. "It's good you're learning though. Most crafts deal with computers from time to time. Even smiths…I'm sure." Though he doesn't sound overly sure about that! "Sounds useful, what you all are using them for." And ah, here comes his food. They sure are quick back there in the kitchens, and the fried tubers look seasoned and delicious. Mm! A mug of water is set down next, and he verbalizes a thanks before turning back to Garait. "Tell me somethin'. You beastcrafters. You work with all animals, right?"

Taking a drink of his juice and a bite of one of the fishrolls, Garait listens, nodding some. "The Weyrleader mentioned to me that he wants Crafts to use computers more and teach Apprentices on the ones for general use in the Craft Comple, so it's only a matter of time before you get a lesson or two." The beastcrafter considers the lat question for a moment before replying, "Well, Dragonhealers deal with the Dragons and the firelizards. Seacraft and fishermen deal with the fishes. Dolphineers deal with the dolpins. So, I guess that leaves the rest to us, more or less. Why do you ask?"

"Huh. As I imagine a computer bein' installed in the forges … I imagine distaster," Kale says before beginning to laugh a bit. "Maybe for the Journeymen to keep stop or somethin'. Guess I see what happens when it happens, for if the weyrleader says it, then it must be so, eh?" The tone in his voice is just barely condescending, more jestful than serious, and he soon busies himself with a bit of his food. "Want some?" he asks, nudging his plate of tubers over a bit. "Look. No meat!" A smirk. "Oh, and I only ask because lately, I've wondered what it'd be like to touch a dolphin. You know I've never felt one before. Have you?" he asks, plucking another tuber. "I know you're not a Dolphineer but…still. Just curious."

Chuckling, Garait shakes his head, "That's okay, I'm eating fish. I just won't eat meat from herdbeasts." Milk and dairy chese would be fine though. He smirks, "Well, the Weyrleader does want more technology stuff. Probably use computers to keep track of inventory and stuff like that." He pauses then, taking a few more bites and a drink from his mug, "Well, I know we have Dolphineers here, but I never actaully thought of it. My father is in the Beastcraft and was posted here for a while, so I spent time with those animals and my mom's Green. I've never felt one either, but my focus has been elsewhere."

Kale nods his head in agreement, apparently figuring the computers would be used for something like that. As for Dolphineers. "Yeah I've never had much reason to bother with'm, so I don't know any've them personally that I could ask." He plucks another tuber and taps it thoughtfully against his plate before taking a bite to chew and swallow. "There was a girl … I can't remember her name. Think she was new to Xanadu at the time, and if she's still around…maybe she could be convinced to take me, or us, to the docks to see them up close and personal." He grins at the other boy. "Could be fun, you think? Would you be interested?"

Garait looks thoughtful for a moment, "Smallish, thin girl? maybe Natalya? I've….run into her." Quite literally in fact. He grins at Kale then and nods, "Yes, it ould be a lot of fun. I'd be interested fore sure, and maybe our firelizards will get their own fish while we're there." He cuckles softly then, "Just don't bring a frozen treat."

"I … think that may be it," Kale says as Natalya's name is spoken. It does ring a bell. A slight one. But still, a bell! He perks as he seems to be game for his spur of the moment plan that may or may not come to be. But that's ok. What's important is that there's a plan! (sort of) "Well good then it's settled. The next time either one've us comes across the girl, we'll ask her about it. It's probably something dolphineers are asked all the time anyway, huh?" He grins then laughs at the mentioning of frozen treats, and he mock salutes the other fellow. "Noted, and lesson learned. I'll keep a wary eye out for Forest the next time I score ice cream." He scarfs down a few more tubers, finishing most of them up before he stands, clapping him on the shoulder. "Shoul' go.." he says, mouth a bit full, but he pauses to chew chew chew chew and swallow before continuing. "I should go finish up some studies. Take care, huh?"

Finishing up as well, Garait nods, "Yes, next time one us sees her, we'll ask. I'm sure they do get asked about it, but they can be theree supervising, yes?" The beastcraft smirks, "Forest is a bit sneaky, especially around the trees where she can blend in easy." That being said, he finishes his juice and moves to stand up, "Yes, studies. I got a bit more to do myself."

Kale grins and nods to him as he speaks of having to head out too. "Oh well then let's go together then. It's still rainin' out. I'll be there to help you up when ya fall in the mud," he says, his grin showing jest. "Or vice versa I guess, with the luck I've had lately." He pulls up his hood again, leaves the correct amount of coinage to pay for his food and drink, and heads off with the beastcraft, back out into the mud and drizzle.
