We try to make Weyrlinghood at Xanadu weyr a memorable experience, in a good way. Weyrlings are the future of the weyr, as they make up what was lost as old age takes the older seasoned riders in the previous turns. ICly, weyrlings are the pride of the weyr, as they promise prosperity and good fortune. OOCly, weyrlings are expected to set a good example to show why they impressed, through good nature and activity. Weyrlings also have rules to follow, much like candidacy, only a little more stringent as now they have lifemates that do concern them and an example to set.
Please note that, as stated in transfers (+xawhelp transfers), you may not transfer out of Xanadu before at least 3RL months have passed since your Impression.
If there is a problem with something during Weyrlinghood, the first person to talk to is the Weyrlingmaster. While the Weyrleaders are always willing to listen and help, we do ask that you turn to the WLM first.
- No sex until you've had the mating flights lecture. Your dragons are too young to understand such a strong emotion before this. See sex (+xawhelp sex) for more information on this particular rule.
- No Drinking. You need to keep a clear head since a young dragon might misinterpret drunkenness for death — a dragon SUICIDES when they believe their rider is dead!
- You must address all people by their proper title, ie. Lord Holder, Weyr Leader, Master, Journeyman, Rider <name>, Weyrling Master, etc. unless specifically asked not to. Even then, you must remain polite.
- Your main duty is to your dragon - Feeding, Bathing, and Oiling.
- The ONLY people who can teach you are those in the chain of command or who you have been specifically told can teach you by someone in the chain of command.
- Don't Assume. If you have a question about your weyrling training, ask the WLM. Every Weyr's training program differs slightly.
- Just because you may have a healer background, or have been around dragons your entire life does not automatically qualify you as a dragon healer. Do NOT diagnose or treat any illnesses/injuries before being taught about them.
- Do NOT get into any physical fights, and try to avoid strong emotions in general. (at least for the first turn of your dragon's life).
- You are Weyrbound until you're dragon can fly compentantly and then you may only leave the Weyr with an escort. (NB: Escort may be NPC.)
- Please be sensible. Don't do stupid things like trying to fly before you're allowed to: if you do, Isobeth or Seryth will ground your lifemate. If you want to know if something is ok, ASK.
