Logfile from Flandynn.
Xanadu Weyr - Beach(#7117RJs)
The unerring range of subdued white rises and falls in a multitude of sandy dunes, creating an endless amount of tiny valleys constantly demolished and rebuilt by the frequent arrival or departure of a dragon. Smoothing out as it slopes gently to the edge of the deep blue water, the sand darkens and a shell here and there stands out for children to collect. The beach itself is set along a low cliff - the height lessoning as one heads eastwards, blocking a portion of the beach from direct access.
The wide wide stretch of water opens up to the east, the far distant shore way beyond the horizon and the beach curves ever so slowly round to east and west, distant arms of land embracing the wind-ruffled Caspian Lake. East leads up to the mouth of the Rubicon River, where the protecting cliff is merely an arms length higher then the sand, and beyond that, a winding road leading out of Xanadu's territory. Westwards, the beach narrows as the cliff swings out, leaving a path wide enough for dragons in single file before cutting in to the sheltered cove designated the Weyrling Beach. However, cut in the cliff face to the north are a variety of rough, wide staircases, providing access to the clearing and to the meadow.

It is late evening and Briana is settled on her cot. One moved to a more empty area of the bunks near Ers'lan who has also moved for sanity's sake. Sahazyth is settled on the couch beside her, one well heaped with pilfered blankets and matressess from other abandoned couches. Even now the young queen is fidgeting with some of the blankets of her 'nest'. Briana is reading from an old leatherbound journal quietly reclusive.
Kagenaith is… sleepy. Sprawled. Probably a limb or two slipping from beyond the rim of his couch, which is an impressive thing considering the larger size of his couch and the smaller size of the blue. It is a talent that only the blue possesses. As Fl'ynn enters into the barracks from without, he pauses to peer at the blue, thinks better about the waking up process, and instead becomes easily distracted by fidgeting further along. No wonder that the teen is heading that way, and then rather deliberately flopping onto Lan's empty cot, laying upon his stomach to look Briana-wards. It is a quiet watching. Staring. Staaaaaaring. Still staring.
Whatever is written in the book is definately keeping Briana well enthralled. Her brows knitted in serioues thought. She does not notice the coming and goings of anyone else in the barracks. It is indeed Sahazyth that notices Fl'ynn first and leans her head forward to wuffle his face. «Little one you have a guest.» Briana jerks her head up at the mental nudge and looks around for a moment before her gaze finally focuses on Fl'ynn, "Oh…sorry..how long have you been there?" She asks as she straightens up and places the journal in her lap.
Fl'ynn remains as is, arms folded under his head as he looks across to her. "Hrm? Oh, not that long." His dark eyes follow the movement as the book is placed into her lap. After a breath, he lifts his gaze back up to her face, just as dark brows becoming lost in the scruffy fringe of his hair. "Don't let me interrupt you. Good book?"
Briana looks over to the rest of the barracks, catching the looks of a couple of weyrlings who quickly looks away. She sighs and looks back to Fl'ynn. "Just some goldrider stuff…" She quickly explains of the book even as she ties the closure on it. "I am sorry about the other day Fl'ynn…just…had some bad experiences with boys in the past and don't like getting teased."
Fl'ynn wrinkles his nose at the 'goldrider stuff'. "Shells, makes me happier day after day that I didn't end up with a gold dragon." He glances to the young queen, quick to add, "No offense or anything, lady." Back to Briana, curiosity provoking him to ask the next question, "What were the boys in your past like? You think I am like one of them?"
Briana can't help but smile at the first, "Boys can't impress golds anyway." She says her features a bit lighter at that and she glances to his blue. "Might have been easier if I had impressed blue, but …I would not give up Sahazyth for anything." The gold extends her head to rest lightly upon Briana's lap. The girl reaches a hand to touch upon the ridges of her neck. "The boys at the camp…well they are taught that all a girl is for is breeding and well they treat us like that." She looks up at the last question and shakes her head, "No…just…when boys try to trick me like that…well I rather you were you and direct and all."
"I could impress a gold if I put my mind to it, and it is a sharding good thing that I didn't and that Kagenaith claimed me first. Can you imagine the sort of wreck that would have been?" Fl'ynn looks most serious through all of this, if you can dismiss the flashing twinkle to his dark irised eyes. "Nothing all that wrong with breeding," he notes, adding in a glance to the side. "I'm not so good at being direct, so you'll have to put up with me dancing around you. Unless you tell me to go jump off a cliff and leave well enough alone, then I shall pine from afar. I'm a really bad piner… pining person… pinerer. Is that even a word?"
Briana looks over to Fl'ynn for a moment almost increduously before she notes the twinkle in his eyes and can not help but smile. "I can only dread such a thought." She responds in mock seriousness. At his comment about his behavior, Briana looks to consider it for a moment, "Ok, and I will try to react to it better…" She offers as she leans forward and extends a hand as if making an agreement. There is a speculative look upon her features at the last bits, "So you like me?" She asks before giggling a bit at the word play. "I don't know…"
It is an awkward movement to reach his hand out to take Briana's, considering his current placement drawn out on his stomach upon Lan's cot. An arm unfolds, Fl'ynn places weight upon the opposite elbow, and then stretches out to take her hand. "Of course I do. If I didn't, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you now, would I? Or, well, laying here, talking to you. Do you have any clue how comfortable Lan's cot is? I kind of like it here. Do you think he'll mind snuggling in with me here? I wouldn't mind that so much at all."
shake before releasing it. "Ok." She says as if making an agreement. "You don't care about what the others think of me then?" She asks in a more cautious voice, giving a glance to the other weyrlings before looking back. The comment of Lan's cot gets a bit of a laugh, "Sorry, never been in his cot…but …well from what I gather he seems to like guys and gals…so I suppose you could ask." She responds with a little shrug.
Fl'ynn's smile grows just a hair more at her later words, "Oh, how well I know it. When this is over, I'm going to get us well and drunk and make sure he takes advantage of me… or the other way around, I'm not sure yet, and I don't think it really matters if we are even drunk. I really like his cot though. It doesn't wobble. Mine wobbles like a ship at sea…" The teen wiggles about upon the cot once more, looking for all the world like he is getting well and comfy. It is a breath or two though, and then the bluerider pauses, folding his arms back under his chin, then asks in a soft voice, a voice that holds far more seriousness than Briana has ever probably heard from him, "Do you care what they think of you?"
"Maybe you can ask for another cot?" Briana suggests to the young man with a bemused look on her features, relaxing enough to roll onto her side on her own cot to face him. "When its all over….another turn to go, eh? But it all seems to be going so quickly." She says and her fingers stroke over Sahazyth's muzzle. "She flew yesterday…it was amazing." The last question causes her to look up for a moment. There is a thoughtful look on her features. "I try not to let it. I know…what they think don't really matter. I know who I am…and most times its good enough. Sometimes though it does get a bit much." She admits.
"It helps that You and Ers'lan…well it helps that y'all are friends. It means a lot to me." Briana says with a half smile, though it is punctuated with a yawn. "I suppose I should get some sleep…lessons start early." And so the journal is tucked under her pillow and with Sahazyth shifting her head to rest next to the cot the pair both drift off to sleep.
