Of average size and build, this hatchling appears like every other normal hatchling when they break through their shell— gawky, a little awkward, slightly confused as he tries to get control of these…these… limbs. All they did was take up room in that confounded egg, and now he's got to -use- them? Oh, the outrage! He tries to escape them with a quick leap to the left, but the legs follow! A dart to the right! They're still under him! He appears so confused, and his leaping around makes him seem even more flame like with his coloring. Hot, burnished bronze darkens towards ridges and spars, and towards his extremities, lean and wiry. Towards his midline and spreading up into his grand wingsails, his dark burnished color lightens to a polished copper hue, bright and shining as though he was just buffed on his way out of production. Ripples of crimson intermingle with the threads of bronze in the hide of this dragon, making him a child of fire.
Egg Name and Description
Firelight Features Egg
Lying nestled in the middle of the clutch like a fire surrounded by campers, this egg appears to cast a warm, flickering glow upon its clutchmates. The russet reds and warm oranges of flame dance across the otherwise shadowy surface of the egg and, oddly enough, like real fire, a gentle warmth is radiating from this egg. Something about this egg compells you to touch it, to caress its velvety surface.
This flame-like egg rocks energetically back and forth as the hatchling within tries to escape its cramped prison. With loud crackling and popping sounds that reverberate inside the Cavern, long, deep chasms appear on the surface. As the hatchling, protesting loudly even from within the egg, pecks at the inside of its shell, bits and pieces break off and drop to the sands, like embers from a fire. The last bit of the confining shell gone, the hatchling flops face first onto the Sands.
Suddenly, playful wisps of flame and shadow dances into your mind and sits there, warming your thoughts and appealing to your lighter nature. It tickles your senses and plays games in your mind, all the while projecting an innocent affection. Underneath all the playfulness you sense a need for you, one so strong it's almost overwhelming, but not quite. A whimsical whisper inserts itself into your mind, «You! Yes. I want you. I am Caith, and you are mine, Cyvex! And I am yours. Feed me? Please?»
« You were saying? I was not paying attention. » Yes you were! You…you… liar! « Now now… is this a face that would lie? » CAITH! « Yes? » You know very w… « Lovely day, isn't it? » You tipped over that vat of oil! « That's so hurtful of you to say. Do you really think I'd do something like that? » YES! « Harsh. » That's Caith. The absolute picture of innocence, this little scamp will get you into more trouble than anything! For example, say you're just sitting around one afternoon. The Weyrlingmaster approaches and asks, "Which one of you moved the meat bin in the doorway so the other weyrlings couldn't get out?" You may be completely oblivious to the fact that the other weyrlings were blocked away, as Caith will keep you busy with his constant chattering. You'll turn and point at Caith, and Caith is going to turn and point at you. He's a troublemaker, and a real comic fellow. He loves you to death, but he's the type of dragon that likes to shake things up.
Caith is the very personification of precociousness. This curious bronze puts his nose into anything and everything he can, whether it's his business or not. And usually makes a mess of it. He knows the meaning of the word No' but sometimes just can't quite seem to hear it.
Why did I choose you? Hm. Let me think on that. A lot. Can I get back to you on this one? No? <Grumble> Oh, alright. Because I wanted to. Well, why isn't that good enough? Ok, I'll try again. You smelled right, and because.. You're really going to make me say this aren't you? Because I know you'll always be there for me when I'm unhappy. Because you're caring and you'll fix all my hurts and be my friend. Is that better? Are you satisfied with that? Good. I love you!
Playful Wisps of Light and Shadow
As soon as your minds touch, you feel that you are being scorched. Brightness surrounds you in hues of gold, orange, and red. Flares of flame and sparks curl around your thoughts in enticing tendrils, dancing and vying with each other in an unknowable competition. But if you wait for a while, you'll notice that the flames aren't trying to burn you at all. They seem to be reaching for dark skies of mystery above, lit by stars and moon.
This entire clutch of Biancath's was inspired by Jennifer Roberson's Tiger and Del series of books (the first of which is Sword-Dancer). This egg is inspired by the flickering light a fire casts onto a Southron hyort (tent). The hatchling is based on the whims of a dancing flame, which can help or hurt as its fancy dictates. Neither the flame nor the hatchling is predictable!
